Samsung’s July 10, 2024 Galaxy Unpacked in Paris introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro. The event’s two main threads were Galaxy AI and connected health—not just new foldable phones. The products went on general sale from July 24, 2024, with local configurations and availability varying by market.
What Samsung announced in Paris
Samsung staged Galaxy Unpacked at the Carrousel du Louvre on July 10, 2024, ahead of the Paris Olympics. Its lineup joined two foldables and new earbuds with a first-party smart ring and two watches: the rugged Galaxy Watch Ultra and mainstream Galaxy Watch7. Samsung framed the group as an expanding Galaxy ecosystem for AI-assisted communication, productivity and health tracking. Samsung’s event announcement and global availability notice give the event and release context.

- Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch7
- Galaxy Ring
- Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro
Galaxy AI was the connective theme
Samsung presented AI across the phones, wearables and earbuds, but much of the Galaxy AI platform extended capabilities first introduced with the Galaxy S24 family. The more consequential change was adapting those capabilities to each form factor: the Fold’s large screen for notes and simultaneous viewing, the Flip’s cover display for quick interactions, and the earbuds for translated listening and conversation.
Samsung highlighted Google Gemini, Circle to Search, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, Composer, Sketch to Image, Portrait Studio and AI-assisted photo tools. Availability depends on language, app, account, device, network and region; generated content and translations can also be wrong. Live translation is not a dependable substitute for a qualified interpreter in medical, legal or emergency situations. Samsung’s U.S. announcement describes the announced Galaxy AI features.

Galaxy Z Fold6: a productivity-focused foldable
The Fold6 paired a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen with a 6.3-inch cover display, both with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. It used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, 12GB of RAM, a 4,400mAh battery and launch storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Its rear cameras were a 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom; it also had a 10MP cover camera and 4MP under-display inner camera. Samsung listed the launch weight at about 239g and described it as its thinnest and lightest Fold to that point. Enhanced Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 were among its materials.
What the large screen added
- Note Assist: translates, summarizes and formats content in Samsung Notes.
- Transcript Assist: transcribes voice recordings and can translate and summarize them.
- PDF overlay translation: translates text in compatible PDFs while placing the translation over the source document.
- Composer: suggests text for email and social posts from keywords; some social suggestions can reflect a user’s previous tone.
- Sketch to Image and Portrait Studio: turn drawings into generated image variations and apply stylized portrait treatments.
- Interpreter: presents translated conversation on the inner and cover screens so two people can follow along.
- Live Translate: translates calls in real time, including in selected third-party apps, subject to supported languages and services.
- Gemini and Circle to Search: invoke Google’s assistant by saying “Hey Google” or using the screen edge, or search visual content directly from the display.
The Fold6 was the more natural choice for people who would use split-screen apps, documents, Samsung Notes or an S Pen. The S Pen was sold separately. The cover screen was larger than before but remained narrower than a conventional phone display; folded, the device was still thicker than a slab phone. Its camera hardware was broadly familiar rather than a wholesale camera-system overhaul, and folding-screen ownership still involves greater care around impact, dust, hinge wear and screen-protector damage than a conventional glass phone. Samsung promised seven generations of Android OS upgrades and seven years of security updates at launch.
Galaxy Z Flip6: pocketable design and a camera upgrade
The Flip6 had a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with adaptive refresh up to 120Hz, plus a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow cover display. It used the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy platform, 12GB RAM, 256GB or 512GB storage and a 4,000mAh typical-capacity battery. The camera system included a 50MP wide and 12MP ultrawide rear camera and a 10MP front camera. At about 187g, it added a vapor chamber to the Flip line; Samsung advertised peak display brightness up to 2,600 nits.
Camera and cover-screen changes
The 50MP main camera was a meaningful resolution increase over the previous Flip generation. FlexCam Auto Zoom attempted to keep subjects framed when the phone was partly folded, while Samsung’s AI-powered ProVisual Engine analyzed lighting, objects and facial detail. Instant Slow-Mo generated intermediate frames to create a slow-motion effect. Suggested Replies could draft responses from the FlexWindow, with support dependent on language, app, network and Samsung Account conditions.

Samsung discussed improved zoom, but the Flip6 did not have a dedicated telephoto lens. Its zoom relied on the main camera and computational or digital processing, not a separate optical telephoto camera. Contemporaneous event coverage also distinguished the zoom claim from dedicated telephoto hardware.
Galaxy Watch Ultra: Samsung’s rugged premium watch
The 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra was aimed at outdoor use and endurance sports rather than being simply a larger Watch7. It had a titanium cushion-style case, Wear OS 5, a new 3nm processor, dual-frequency GPS and a programmable Quick Button. Launch colors were Titanium Gray, Titanium White and Titanium Silver. It had no traditional rotating bezel.
Samsung claimed up to 100 hours in power-saving mode; that is not a typical-use battery estimate. The watch added Functional Threshold Power testing for cyclists and multisport tracking, alongside Samsung Health features including sleep-apnea detection where authorized. Its 10 ATM and IP68 ratings come with Samsung’s usage limitations and should not be read as a guarantee against damage in every water or dust condition. Health functions depend on market authorization, compatible devices and software, and are not a medical diagnosis. Samsung’s Watch Ultra page provides product and qualification details.
The Ultra made the most sense for Galaxy users who would benefit from its rugged materials, outdoor positioning and sport features. The Watch7 shared the new processor family and much of the biometric platform at a lower price. The Ultra’s larger, distinctive design and lack of a rotating bezel may be drawbacks for anyone seeking a smaller, more discreet everyday watch.

Galaxy Watch7: the everyday alternative
The Watch7 came in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with the same new 3nm processor family and a similar core biometric sensor platform to the Ultra. Its conventional design and lower starting price suited everyday smartwatch and health use without the Ultra’s titanium chassis and endurance-sport emphasis. The smaller Bluetooth model launched in the U.S. at $299.99; launch reporting listed the Ultra at $649.99. Those are historical U.S. launch prices, not current offers.
For a standard Galaxy smartwatch, the Watch7 was the more proportionate choice. A buyer paying the Ultra premium was principally choosing rugged construction, outdoor positioning, battery-management options and design distinction rather than an entirely separate set of health basics.

Samsung’s first smart ring was designed for continuous, unobtrusive wellness and sleep tracking, complementing rather than necessarily replacing a Galaxy Watch. The titanium ring launched in nine sizes and Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold, weighing about 2.3g to 3.3g depending on size. It worked with Samsung Health for sleep, heart-rate and activity data, with AI-powered Energy Score and broader wellness analysis. It came with a charging case. Samsung positioned the core Samsung Health experience without a monthly subscription at launch.
The Ring’s strongest case was for someone already using a compatible Galaxy phone and Samsung Health who wanted passive tracking, especially overnight, without a watch on the wrist. It has no screen, notifications, GPS display or exercise controls. Ring fit is consequential, so prospective buyers should use Samsung’s sizing kit or official sizing process. Features require compatible devices and accounts and vary by market. The Ring is less compelling for non-Samsung phone owners, people who want active workout interaction, or watch owners who already wear a smartwatch continuously. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring product page describes the device and its ecosystem.

Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro
The Buds3 line adopted a new stem-style design and came in standard Buds3 and Buds3 Pro versions. When paired with compatible Galaxy devices, AI-assisted Interpreter and Listening Mode were intended to help users follow translated speech and conversations. These features further extended Samsung’s ecosystem pitch, but their usefulness depended on supported devices, languages and connectivity. U.S. launch MSRPs were $179.99 for Buds3 and $249.99 for Buds3 Pro.
U.S. launch prices and release timing
The following are U.S. manufacturer suggested retail prices at the July 2024 launch, before taxes, carrier offers, trade-in credits or financing. Samsung announced general availability from July 24, 2024; exact local configurations, carrier timing and health-feature availability varied by market. Temporary preorder offers are not recurring prices.
| Product | U.S. launch MSRP | General availability announced | Launch detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold6 | $1,899.99 | July 24, 2024 | 7.6-inch inner display; Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy |
| Galaxy Z Flip6 | $1,099.99 | July 24, 2024 | 6.7-inch main display; 3.4-inch FlexWindow |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra | $649.99 | July 24, 2024 | 47mm titanium case; dual-frequency GPS |
| Galaxy Watch7 | From $299.99 | July 24, 2024 | 40mm and 44mm sizes |

| Galaxy Buds3 | $179.99 | July 24, 2024 | Stem-style redesign |

Samsung’s U.S. product pages now say the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are no longer available and have been sold out or replaced by updated models. Their launch prices are therefore historical reference points, not current Samsung U.S. purchase prices: Fold6 status and Flip6 status. Availability of other products and prices should likewise be checked locally rather than inferred from 2024 launch MSRP.
What was genuinely new—and what to take from the launch
The event’s strongest novelty was not a completely new AI platform. It was Samsung’s attempt to make the existing Galaxy AI suite more useful on a foldable, while bringing a smart ring into the same health system as Galaxy watches and positioning the Ultra for outdoor and endurance use. The Flip6’s 50MP main camera and vapor chamber were tangible hardware changes; the Fold6 refined a productivity-focused form factor. The Ring widened Samsung’s health ecosystem, though its value depended more on compatibility and tracking habits than on the AI label.

For watch buyers, the central choice was simpler: Watch7 for mainstream Galaxy smartwatch use, Watch Ultra for rugged construction and outdoor-sport features. The Ring made sense as a complementary passive tracker, not as a watch substitute. For the Fold6 and Flip6, the 2026 U.S. availability notices mean readers considering one should treat it as a remaining-stock or refurbished-device decision and compare it with current-generation foldables. More broadly, a conventional flagship phone remains the better-value option if the folding format itself will not change how the device is used.
Alternatives should follow ecosystem and activity needs: Garmin is a stronger direction for serious endurance-sport tools; Apple Watch Ultra suits iPhone users rather than Android owners; Google Pixel Watch is a more natural fit for Pixel and Google-health users; and Oura is an established ring alternative with a subscription-oriented model. Compare current terms and compatibility before buying rather than relying on historical launch pricing.
