Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The April 11, 2024 report that Samsung was preparing a Galaxy Watch FE was substantially correct: Samsung announced the watch on June 13 and began U.S. Bluetooth sales on June 24, 2024. Samsung’s U.S. documents later marked both FE variants EOL, so in 2026 it is an older clearance buy rather than an upcoming product.
What the April 2024 exclusive actually claimed
Android Headlines reported on April 11, 2024 that Samsung was preparing a product called the Galaxy Watch FE. The report described it as a lower-cost watch apparently related to the Galaxy Watch4 generation and cited expected model numbers SM-R866F, SM-R866U and SM-R866N for global, U.S. and Korean markets. It also expected a round design, Wear OS software and functionality similar to the Watch4.
Those were leaks and inferences, not an official specification sheet or launch schedule. The article did not establish a confirmed release date, final price or every hardware feature. Read the original report at Android Headlines.
Which predictions held up?
| Original claim | What later evidence shows |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch FE name | Confirmed by Samsung’s 2024 launch. |
| Watch4-like generation or platform | Broadly consistent with the product’s older-generation positioning, but Samsung did not describe it as an identical Watch4 rebrand. |
| Global, U.S. and Korean versions | Supported by the model families and market availability. |
| Wear OS and Galaxy ecosystem functions | Consistent with the launched Galaxy Watch software experience. |
| Lower-cost positioning | Confirmed by the U.S. MSRP. |
| Physical rotating bezel | Not confirmed by Samsung’s launch announcement; the leak presented it as a probability. |
| Exact launch timing | Not confirmed in the April report. |

Is the Galaxy Watch FE still available in 2026?
The FE definitely reached the market, but Samsung’s U.S. documentation shows it moving out of the active lineup. The March 2025 MSRP file marked both FE Bluetooth and LTE SKUs EOL. The December 2025 file listed newer Galaxy Watch7 and Watch8 products but no Galaxy Watch FE.
That establishes EOL status in Samsung’s U.S. pricing documents, not a worldwide discontinuation. An indexed Samsung page or retailer listing also does not prove current inventory. Availability in 2026 should be treated as country- and seller-specific leftover, open-box, refurbished or clearance stock.
How it compares with newer Samsung watches
The FE’s value depends on the gap between its verified delivered price and a current-generation watch. Samsung’s December 2025 U.S. MSRP file lists the Galaxy Watch7 at $249.99 for 40mm Bluetooth and $299.99 for 40mm LTE; 44mm versions are $279.99 and $329.99. The Galaxy Watch8 is listed at $349.99 for 40mm Bluetooth and $399.99 for 40mm LTE; 44mm versions are $379.99 and $429.99.

Watch7 and Watch8 are newer active-line products, so they generally offer a longer support runway and newer hardware. The FE remains attractive when a buyer wants a small 40mm Samsung watch, Galaxy Health and Wear OS functions, and can obtain it substantially below Watch7 pricing with a valid warranty. The active lineup is shown at Samsung’s U.S. watches page.
Bluetooth or LTE?
- Bluetooth: costs less and relies more heavily on a nearby phone for connected functions.
- LTE: can provide more independent connectivity, but requires a compatible carrier, plan and activation and costs more.
What to check before buying one now
- Confirm the core model: SM-R861 is Bluetooth; SM-R866 is LTE.
- Ask whether the unit is new, open-box, refurbished or used.
- Test that it powers on, pairs and holds a charge.
- Inspect the display, case and Sapphire Crystal for damage.
- Verify the charger, band, return period and remaining warranty.
- For LTE, confirm compatibility with your carrier and activation requirements.
- Check that your phone and region support Galaxy Wearable and the intended health features.
- Compare the delivered price with a new Galaxy Watch7 before committing.
Samsung’s support documentation emphasizes Galaxy Wearable pairing and Android-device compatibility; do not assume iPhone or every Android configuration is supported. Check the requirements for your market and phone at Samsung support.
Verdict for 2026
The April 2024 exclusive was not a false alarm: Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch FE, with the name, budget positioning, model families and Wear OS-era Galaxy features broadly validating the report. But the product is now older, and Samsung’s U.S. records mark its listed SKUs EOL.
Buy it only when the price is clearly below a comparable Watch7, the battery and condition are verified, and the seller provides meaningful returns and warranty coverage. Skip it when the price approaches a newer watch, when long-term support matters most, or when an LTE listing cannot prove carrier compatibility.
