For a US Galaxy Watch Ultra that is draining quickly, charging poorly, missing notifications, recording a rough route, or freezing, start with the matching fix below. The original 2024 Ultra and the 2025 refresh can have different menus; US LTE models commonly use the SM-L705U model family, and labels also vary with carrier, One UI Watch/Wear OS, and Galaxy Wearable versions. If the watch or charger is abnormally hot, swollen, damaged, or smells unusual, stop using it and contact Samsung.
Find the symptom and the safest first step
| Complaint | Try first | Contact support when |
|---|---|---|
| Battery drain | Update, inspect battery use, and temporarily reduce high-drain features. | Fast idle drain remains after a reset. |
| Slow or failed charging | Cool, dry, clean, and realign the watch on its supplied charger. | It overheats, shuts down, swells, or repeatedly fails to charge. |
| Pairing or notifications | Restart both devices, update Galaxy Wearable, and check notification permissions. | Connection still fails after careful re-pairing. |
| GPS or workout data | Get an outdoor location lock and wear the watch snugly. | Routes repeatedly fail in open sky after updates and restarts. |
| Freeze or lag | Charge the watch and force-reboot it with both buttons. | It boot-loops or remains frozen after basic recovery. |
Samsung’s troubleshooting sequence for an unresponsive watch starts with charging and a forced reboot, then moves to updates, app removal, and—if needed—a reset. That order is useful for other symptoms, too: use reversible checks before erasing the watch. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch troubleshooting guide covers recovery, updates, and reset options.
1. Fix fast battery drain
Samsung lists a 590 mAh battery and rates the Ultra for up to 60 hours with always-on display enabled, or up to 100 hours in Power Saving Mode. Those are “up to” figures for different conditions, not a promise of a particular number of days with LTE, GPS workouts, sleep tracking, health monitoring, and streaming all in use. See Samsung’s US Galaxy Watch Ultra specifications.
Check what changed
Think about when the drain began. A software update or reset can leave apps updating and usage patterns settling; a newly installed watch face or app, LTE use, frequent GPS workouts, always-on display, or continuous health measurements can also raise consumption. Weak LTE reception may use more power while the watch searches for or maintains service.

Try this sequence
- Charge the watch, then open Galaxy Wearable on the phone and install any available watch software update. Update related watch apps as well.
- On the watch, open its battery or battery-usage screen and look for an app, watch face, or feature using an unusual share of power. Menu names vary by generation and software version.
- For a comparable test, temporarily turn off always-on display, Wi-Fi when not needed, and LTE when the phone is nearby; use a simpler Samsung watch face and reduce continuous health measurements only if you do not need those readings.
- Restart the watch and compare a full day of use with similar workouts, connectivity, and health settings. If the problem began after installing an app or face, remove it and test again.
- If rapid drain continues while the watch is mostly idle, back it up and consider a factory reset as a last software check. If it persists after a clean setup, contact Samsung rather than assuming a battery setting is responsible.
Drain limited to GPS/LTE workouts is more likely workload-related than idle drain; compare a shorter workout with the phone nearby. If the change began after an update, first let app updates finish and monitor a day or two under comparable use.
2. Fix slow charging, charging interruptions, or heat
A watch may feel warm while charging, but repeated charging stops, a temperature warning, shutdown, or excessive heat are different. Water resistance does not mean it is safe to charge the watch while wet. Samsung’s guidance recommends the supplied charging dock; if charging remains abnormal, bring the watch and charging equipment to service. See Samsung’s troubleshooting steps and the Galaxy Watch Ultra manual.
Try this sequence
- Remove the watch from the puck. If it is warm, let the watch and charger cool to room temperature in a ventilated place—not in direct sun, a hot car, or under bedding.
- Dry the watch completely, especially the rear charging area. Wipe the watch back and puck with a soft, dry cloth to remove moisture, sweat, sunscreen, oils, or debris.
- Place the watch carefully on the supplied Samsung charger so the charging surfaces align. Remove a thick case or accessory if it may interfere.
- Test with the watch idle and its display off. If charging is still slow or intermittent without a heat warning, try another reliable compatible power adapter and outlet.
Do not keep charging through an overheating warning. Stop using the charger and request service if the watch becomes excessively hot, repeatedly interrupts charging, shuts down, swells, or emits an unusual odor. A magnetic or Qi-branded third-party charger is not automatically compatible.

3. Restore pairing, notifications, or LTE
First separate a notification problem from a connection problem. If calls work but one app’s alerts do not, check that app’s notification access and background operation on the phone, as well as Do Not Disturb, Sleep, and Theater modes on the watch. If the watch disconnects only after you leave the phone, it needs a supported, activated LTE service to stay connected independently.

- Confirm Bluetooth is on and open Galaxy Wearable to see whether the watch is connected.
- Restart both phone and watch. Update Galaxy Wearable, its watch manager/plugin components, Samsung Health, and the watch software.
- On the phone, check notification access and allow the affected app to send alerts to the watch. Check the watch for temporary modes that suppress alerts.
- If disconnections continue, confirm a current backup before removing the watch from the phone’s Bluetooth list. Reconnect through Galaxy Wearable rather than pairing manually from the Bluetooth screen.
Check LTE and phone compatibility
For LTE, confirm with the carrier that the watch model and line are supported and that its eSIM is activated. Samsung notes that a reset can mean an LTE watch activated by QR code needs a new code from the carrier. If activation fails after a reset, contact the carrier before repeating setup.
Samsung says the watch works with Samsung phones and compatible Android phones, but features can differ. Do not assume every health feature is available on every Android phone or in every region; Samsung’s compatibility guidance explains phone requirements. LTE provisioning is a carrier question; missing notifications are more often a permissions, mode, or background-operation issue.

4. Improve GPS and workout tracking
The Ultra has dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS, but that cannot remove obstruction from tall buildings, dense trees, tunnels, mountains, or a poor starting environment. The first moments of a workout can also be misleading if the watch has not acquired a location. Route, pace, heart-rate, and altitude accuracy are separate measurements: a clean route does not prove a heart-rate issue is fixed, and vice versa.
Run a controlled check
- Go outdoors to an open area before starting and wait for a location lock.
- Confirm location services are enabled, then update the watch and Samsung Health.
- Start the workout manually for the test rather than relying on auto-detection.
- Wear the watch snugly, consistently above the wrist bone, and keep its sensor clean and dry.
- Repeat a route in open conditions. Compare one workout with the phone nearby and one with the phone left behind to distinguish phone-connected from standalone behavior.
If only heart-rate readings are erratic while the route is sound, first check fit and sensor contact. If the watch repeatedly loses the route in open sky after an update and restart, report the problem or request service; a reset cannot correct obstructed reception, poor fit, or hardware damage.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors5. Recover a frozen, slow, or stuck watch
A blank screen may simply mean the battery is depleted. Slowness just after an update can also occur while apps finish updating. Charge first, then use Samsung’s forced-restart method if the watch remains unresponsive.

Restart, update, and isolate the cause
- Place the watch on its charger.
- Hold the Home/Power and Back buttons together until “Rebooting…” appears, then let the watch restart fully.
- Update the watch through Galaxy Wearable. Open watch settings, then About watch or the equivalent software-update section, and choose Update watch software. Labels vary by model and software version; the normal phone-based update needs a network connection and the phone’s Bluetooth connection to the watch.
- Allow apps to finish updating. If the trouble began after installing a watch face or app, uninstall the most recent addition and test again.
Reset only after protecting your data
If charging, rebooting, updating, and removing a suspect app do not help, back up through Galaxy Wearable before unpairing or factory-resetting. A reset can erase local watch data and settings. Record important face and app settings, and make sure Samsung and Google account credentials are available. LTE service may also need carrier reactivation or a new QR code. If the watch boot-loops, overheats, or cannot complete setup, stop repeating resets and contact Samsung repair.
When to stop troubleshooting and get help
- Samsung: Contact Samsung for repeated overheating, charging failure with the supplied charger, a boot loop, persistent idle drain after a clean reset, or repeated open-sky GPS failure. Warranty coverage depends on the purchase location, damage, model, and applicable US terms.
- Your carrier: Contact the carrier for LTE/eSIM activation, especially after a reset or when the watch cannot connect away from the phone.
- Prepare useful details: Have the model number, software build, date the issue began, charger and adapter used, and whether the problem followed an update. Samsung’s US support page offers troubleshooting and repair contact options.
Owner discussions include reports of charging trouble, heat, flashing screens, battery drain, and notification failures, including a Samsung Members thread and a Samsung US Community report. These are individual reports, not confirmation of a product-wide defect or failure rate.
