R960XXU1AWK4 is an official Samsung firmware build for the Galaxy Watch6 Classic 47mm Bluetooth (SM-R960). Samsung’s English firmware record identifies it as a Wear OS 5 build with the November 1, 2023 security patch and a November 20, 2023 publication date. It is no longer current: Samsung’s SM-R960 history lists R960XXS2CZF5, released July 6, 2026 with Wear OS 6.0 and the July 5, 2026 security patch. Availability can differ by country, sales code and rollout stage.
Identify the watch and firmware
The hardware model is SM-R960, Samsung’s 47mm Bluetooth version of the Galaxy Watch6 Classic. It has the Classic line’s rotating bezel and does not provide the standalone cellular hardware of the 47mm LTE model, SM-R965F. Samsung’s product pages distinguish the two models: SM-R960 Bluetooth and SM-R965F LTE.
R960XXU1AWK4 is the complete software build identifier. Use it together with the model number when checking authenticity or compatibility; a build string by itself is not proof that a watch was sold in a particular country.
- SM-R960: 47mm Bluetooth hardware model.
- R960XXU1AWK4: the firmware build for that model.
- T / Wear OS 5: the platform shown in Samsung’s release notes for AWK4.
- November 1, 2023: Android security-patch level listed for the build.
- XSG: a sales or regional label commonly associated with the UAE/Gulf market. Confirm the downloaded package’s CSC and model metadata rather than treating XSG as a universal compatibility guarantee.
What Samsung says AWK4 changed
Samsung’s English firmware history describes AWK4 only as a stability and reliability improvement: official SM-R960 firmware history. It is not documented there as a major One UI or Wear OS feature release.

The English record gives a November 20, 2023 release date. Samsung’s regional Korean record shows the same build family with a January 12, 2024 date and adds a note about the Samsung Health Monitor app for blood pressure and ECG: regional Samsung record. These are publication or rollout records for different markets, not contradictory proof that every watch received the package on both dates.
The Health Monitor note is conditional. Samsung states that blood-pressure and ECG functions depend on regulatory approval, certification and country support. A regional changelog should therefore not be read as a promise that installing AWK4 activates either function on every SM-R960.
A Samsung Members user reported an approximately 683.11 MB download for a related SM-R960 AWK4 rollout: Samsung Members post. That is an observed user download, not a universal package-size specification.
Is AWK4 still current?
No. As of the Samsung firmware history reviewed on August 18, 2026, AWK4 is several platform generations behind the latest listed SM-R960 build. Regional rollout timing can still differ.

Check the installed build and update normally
Samsung’s supported route is the Galaxy Wearable app, not a random firmware archive.
- Pair the watch with the phone and open Galaxy Wearable.
- Open Watch settings.
- Tap Watch software update.
- Select Download and install.
- After the check, record the model, software/build number, One UI Watch version, Wear OS/Android version, security-patch level and, if shown, the watch sales code or CSC.
Menu wording can vary with the phone language and Galaxy Wearable version. The update screen should identify the package offered to that particular watch; compare the complete build string rather than only the “AWK4” suffix.
Prepare before installation
- Charge the watch adequately and keep it close to the paired phone.
- Use a stable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection.
- Update Galaxy Wearable and its watch plug-in first.
- Back up important watch data where the app provides a backup option.
- Do not interrupt the transfer, installation or reboot; allow extra time for post-update optimization.
A major Wear OS or One UI Watch update can alter menus, permissions, watch-face behavior, battery use and third-party app compatibility. Do not assume every setting or app state will be preserved exactly.

If Galaxy Wearable does not offer an update
An absent update does not automatically indicate a faulty watch. Common explanations include a staged rollout, a different CSC, an imported device, a server pause, a pairing problem or the watch already being on a newer build. First verify that the model is exactly SM-R960; an SM-R965F is the LTE variant and requires different firmware.
- Restart both the phone and watch.
- Install the latest Galaxy Wearable app and watch plug-in.
- Confirm the watch remains correctly paired and the Samsung account state is normal.
- Retry over a reliable connection with the watch charged.
- If the watch is stuck on an old build or repeatedly fails, contact Samsung support with the model, build, CSC and error message.
Do not factory-reset first. A reset can erase locally stored watch data and does not force Samsung to offer a region-mismatched package.
Manual flashing: what XSG does and does not tell you
Manual firmware installation is a specialist repair or service operation. It is materially different from the supported OTA process and carries data-loss, boot failure and recovery risks.
Before anyone considers a manual package, all of these must match:

- Rotating Bezel Design: Classic rotating bezel enables precise control and smooth navigation.
- Exact hardware model:
SM-R960, notSM-R965F. - Bluetooth or LTE variant.
- CSC or sales region.
- Binary/bootloader revision.
- Package integrity and trustworthy provenance.
- A verified recovery path if installation fails.
Do not flash an LTE package to the Bluetooth model, and do not assume a listing that says “XSG” is safe for every Gulf watch. Firmware archive sites can help identify historical builds, but they are not automatically official or risk-free. This article does not provide an Odin or service-tool recipe because tool compatibility, partition handling and recovery requirements must be verified for the exact package.
Blood pressure, ECG and regional restrictions
The regional AWK4 note references Samsung Health Monitor blood pressure and ECG support, but firmware is only one requirement. Availability can also depend on the country, local approval, a compatible Galaxy phone, app version, calibration and matching device or phone region. An imported watch may therefore show different health services, Samsung Wallet behavior or update timing from a locally sold unit.

A used SM-R960 can still make sense if the rotating bezel and Bluetooth operation are what you want and the price reflects its age. Inspect battery condition, charging behavior, water damage, screen and bezel operation, included charger, account removal and the watch’s actual CSC. Confirm that the seller is not confusing it with the LTE SM-R965F.
For context, Samsung’s UAE launch announcement listed the 47mm Classic at AED 1,799 for Bluetooth and AED 1,999 for LTE; those are launch-era prices, not current street prices: Samsung UAE launch announcement. Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet lists Watch7 44mm Bluetooth at $279.99, Watch7 LTE at $329.99, Watch8 Classic Bluetooth at $499.99, Watch8 Classic LTE at $549.99 and Watch Ultra LTE at $649.99. It lists historical Watch6 Classic 47mm MSRPs of $429.99 Bluetooth and $479.99 LTE. These are MSRP signals, not guaranteed retail prices or availability: Samsung Wearables MSRP sheet.

If you need phone-free calls or data, choose an LTE model deliberately. Otherwise, the SM-R960 is the appropriate Watch6 Classic variant. In either case, compare the device’s condition and remaining update support, not only the model name.
