Samsung announced the expansion of One UI 6 Watch on November 19, 2024, bringing selected Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra software features to older watches. The eligible families are Galaxy Watch6, Watch5, Watch4 and Galaxy Watch FE. This is a guide to that historical rollout, not a new update announcement: Samsung’s later software listings include One UI 8 Watch for at least some Watch6 models. Availability and features vary by market, carrier, watch model and paired phone.
Which Galaxy Watches were eligible?
Samsung’s announcement named these watch families. Eligibility does not mean every feature is available on every model.
| Eligible family | Models named by Samsung |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch6 | Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic |
| Galaxy Watch5 | Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro |
| Galaxy Watch4 | Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic |
| Galaxy Watch FE | Galaxy Watch FE |
Samsung said the rollout would start with the Watch6 series and move sequentially to older generations. Timing differed by market, carrier and device variant; the announcement did not establish a single worldwide date for every model. Older Tizen-based Galaxy Watches are not included in the stated list. Samsung’s announcement and feature qualifications
What One UI 6 Watch adds
One UI 6 Watch is Samsung’s software layer for supported Galaxy Watches based on Wear OS. Samsung described the update as bringing selected experiences from the Watch7 and Watch Ultra—not making older watches hardware-equivalent to either model.

Energy Score and sleep analysis
Energy Score combines sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate and sleeping heart-rate variability into an at-a-glance wellness score. Samsung says it requires a compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phone, Samsung Health and a Samsung account. It is a wellness aid, not a medical measurement.
Sleep analysis adds information about movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate. Samsung describes the analysis as AI-powered; it should not be treated as a sleep-lab test or medical diagnosis.
Sleep Apnea feature
Samsung said its De Novo FDA-authorized Sleep Apnea feature would become available on a wider range of watches through the update, subject to model and regional availability. It is an over-the-counter, software-only mobile medical application for compatible Galaxy Watch and phone combinations. It is intended for adults aged 22 or older to look for signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea, using sleep monitoring twice during a ten-day period. It is intended for on-demand use, is not for people already diagnosed with sleep apnea, and does not replace evaluation or treatment by a qualified clinician. The watch does not diagnose sleep apnea.

Race and Workout Routine
Race compares an outdoor run or outdoor cycling activity with a previous record on the same pre-generated route. The earlier record can be up to 14 days old, and the new activity must begin at the same starting location. If the route deviates by more than 10%, the feature may automatically switch to running mode. It is a route-dependent comparison, not universal live coaching.
Workout Routine lets you combine exercises into a personalized sequence, which can be useful for repeating a structured session.
Watch faces and connected-phone controls
Samsung highlighted Simple Digital and a face called Ultra Info Board in its U.S. announcement; U.K. support documentation uses the name Ultra Board Watch. These are examples, not a guarantee that every face appears on every watch or in every region.

Suggested replies can recommend message responses when the watch is paired with a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone; Samsung says this requires a compatible phone and Samsung account. Double Pinch Gestures can control certain actions, including answering calls, dismissing alarms and taking photos. The gesture is off by default. Samsung specifies a paired Galaxy phone running One UI 6.1.1 or newer for this feature.
Phone, account and regional requirements
These Galaxy Watch models do not support iPhone pairing. Samsung’s general Wear OS watch setup guidance lists compatible Android phones running Android 6.0 or newer with at least 1.5 GB of RAM. Basic compatibility with Android does not mean every One UI 6 Watch feature works with every Android phone.

- Suggested replies and Double Pinch have Samsung Galaxy phone requirements; Double Pinch also specifies One UI 6.1.1 or newer.
- Health features may depend on country authorization, phone compatibility and Samsung Health version.
- Availability can also differ between Bluetooth and LTE variants, and by carrier and watch model.
Check Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch support page and Galaxy Watch phone compatibility guidance for details relevant to your region and phone. Samsung’s Canada rollout notice, for example, gave separate Bluetooth and LTE timing; those dates should not be treated as a global schedule: Samsung Canada’s announcement.

How to check for and install the update
Before installing, charge the watch, keep it near the paired phone and use a reliable network connection. Updating Galaxy Wearable or Samsung Health if prompted, and backing up watch data where the app offers that option, are sensible precautions. Do not interrupt installation.
Using Galaxy Wearable
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the paired phone.
- Open Watch settings.
- Select Watch software update.
- Tap Download and install.
From the watch
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Swipe up and select Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
The watch still needs to be paired with a compatible smartphone for the update process. Menu wording can vary slightly by software version, model and region. Samsung’s update instructions

The update does not appear
Check the exact watch model in Galaxy Wearable first. An update may not be offered because the rollout has not reached that region, carrier or variant, because the watch is not correctly paired, or because the model is outside Samsung’s supported list.

A feature is missing after updating
Check whether the feature needs a Samsung account, Samsung Health, a Galaxy phone, a particular phone software version, regional availability or manual activation. For Double Pinch, enable the gesture on the watch or in Galaxy Wearable; it is disabled by default.
Battery life seems worse
After a major update, syncing and background processing can temporarily affect battery use. Observe the watch over a few charge cycles, install available app updates and turn off features you do not use. Battery results vary by model and use, so the update does not guarantee a particular change in endurance.
What the update cannot change
Software does not add sensors or change the original watch’s processor, display, battery or connectivity. An older watch may gain selected software experiences while still differing from Watch7 or Watch Ultra in hardware and capability. If the features you want are available on your existing model, installing the update is the practical first step; a new watch is not required just to receive One UI 6 Watch.
One UI 6 Watch is now an older software generation. Samsung’s device update listing for a Watch6 model references One UI 8 Watch, so owners checking their current software should identify the version installed on their specific watch rather than assume One UI 6 is the latest available.
