Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To factory-reset a Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, back up what you can, then use Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → General → Reset. If the watch is frozen, locked, or cannot open Settings, use the two-button recovery procedure instead. A factory reset erases the watch; a restart does not.
Restart, force restart, or factory reset?
| Goal | Correct action | Does it erase watch data? |
|---|---|---|
| Fix a temporary glitch, slow app, or brief connection problem | Normal restart | No |
| Recover a frozen or unresponsive watch | Force restart | No, unless you subsequently choose a recovery wipe |
| Erase personal data before selling, returning, or giving away the watch | Factory reset | Yes |
| Reset a locked watch or one that cannot load Settings | Recovery reset | Yes |
For a frozen Galaxy Watch Ultra, hold Home/Power and Back together for at least seven seconds. Release when the screen goes black and the Samsung logo appears. Samsung notes that some models can take about 30 seconds to show “Rebooting.” See Samsung’s restart and reset guidance.
Before you reset
- Charge the watch sufficiently and leave it on its charger if practical.
- Back up through the connected Android phone’s Galaxy Wearable app.
- Make sure you know the Samsung account credentials used with the watch. Samsung may require the same account after a recovery reset.
- Expect to set up payment cards, app sign-ins, watch faces, notifications, health permissions, alarms, and Bluetooth accessories again.
- If the watch uses LTE, note your carrier details. Reactivation or a replacement QR code may be required after the reset.
- Photograph unusual settings you will need to reproduce.
Back up the Galaxy Watch Ultra
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the connected Android phone.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Tap Account and backup.
- Tap Backup settings or Back up data.
- Select the data to save, tap Back up, then tap Done when the backup finishes.
Samsung’s documented Wear OS backup includes selected app data and settings, the installed-app list, watch-face settings, and some system settings. It does not include music stored directly on the watch. Details are in Samsung’s watch-backup guide. A backup does not guarantee that every credential, payment card, local file, or app will return automatically.
Reset from the Galaxy Wearable app
This is the preferred route when the Ultra is connected and responsive.

Samsung may also show General → Connect to new phone. That option can reset the watch during a transfer, but choose the explicit Reset command when you want a clean factory wipe.
Reset a frozen, locked, or inaccessible watch
Use recovery mode when you cannot enter the PIN, Settings will not open, or normal reset paths fail. The timing after “Rebooting” is critical.

- If possible, power off the watch. If it is frozen, hold Home/Power + Back until Rebooting appears.
- Immediately press and release Home/Power repeatedly. Do not pause.
- When the Reboot mode menu appears, continue pressing Home/Power until Recovery is highlighted.
- Hold Home/Power to enter Recovery.
- On the Wear OS recovery screen, swipe down to Wipe data/factory reset.
- Swipe right to select it.
- Swipe down to Factory data reset, then swipe right to confirm.
- When the wipe finishes, swipe right to reboot.
If you wait on the Reboot mode screen, the watch can start normally; repeat the sequence and begin pressing Home/Power as soon as “Rebooting” appears. Recovery reset is destructive, and Samsung says the same Samsung account currently associated with the watch may be required afterward.
What happens after the reset?
- Pair the watch again from inside Galaxy Wearable rather than from the phone’s Bluetooth menu alone.
- Sign in with the required Samsung and Google accounts.
- Restore the available backup.
- Install watch and app updates.
- Reconfigure watch faces, notifications, health permissions, alarms, accessories, payment cards, and app sign-ins.
- For LTE models, follow the carrier’s activation process. An active line may require reactivation or a new QR code.
If reset or pairing fails
The watch will not respond
- Charge it with the original or a compatible Samsung charger.
- Try holding Home/Power and Back longer than seven seconds.
- Check for a stuck or damaged button.
- If it remains unresponsive, contact Samsung service; a reset cannot repair charging, display, battery, or button hardware.
The phone will not pair after resetting
- Update Galaxy Wearable and its watch plugin.
- Restart both devices.
- Remove the old watch entry from the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
- Start pairing from Galaxy Wearable.
- Sign in to the required Samsung and Google accounts.
Do not use third-party account-bypass tools. If you forgot the Samsung account password, use Samsung account recovery or official Samsung Support.

Before selling or giving away the Ultra
- Complete the backup.
- Factory-reset the watch.
- Remove its old Bluetooth pairing from your phone.
- Confirm it no longer appears as your active watch in Galaxy Wearable.
- Check the carrier account separately for LTE service and remove any personal access or credentials.
Resetting the watch erases its local data; it does not by itself cancel an LTE line in the same way as closing a phone plan.
