The Seiko Prospex SBBN013, often nicknamed the “Darth Tuna,” is a quartz saturation diver rated to 1,000 metres. In his October 16, 2015 review, Ilias Giannopoulos found that its short effective lug span and relatively light construction made it more comfortable on the wrist than its 48 mm diameter suggests, though its 15.3 mm thickness made it difficult to wear beneath a sleeve. Those are one owner-reviewer’s observations, not a fit guarantee for every wearer. WatchCharts estimated its pre-owned market value at US$1,229 on September 30, 2026; individual asking and sale prices can differ.
What the SBBN013 is—and what its depth rating means
Seiko’s historical product page identifies the SBBN013 as a quartz Prospex model rated to 1,000 m for saturation diving. The rating is the relevant specification when comparing this watch with another diver: it is not the same as a claim that every example has been tested to greater depths.
Seiko Watch Corporation says, “All the test watches performed perfectly at depths exceeding 3,000m,” and immediately qualifies that statement: “Not guaranteed for all products.” The test result therefore should not be presented as the SBBN013’s water-resistance rating or as a guarantee for a particular watch. How it wears, according to the long-term review
Giannopoulos’s review describes a watch that wears differently from what its diameter alone might imply. He found the effective lug span short and the titanium construction relatively light, making the large case more comfortable than its measurements suggested. That does not make it a small watch: he also found the 15.3 mm thickness awkward beneath sleeves. Wrist shape, strap adjustment and clothing will affect another owner’s experience.

The review describes the supplied strap as stiff at first. Giannopoulos later switched to a Bonetto Cinturini rubber strap. That personal choice does not establish that the same strap—or any replacement strap—fits every SBBN013 listing. Check the exact watch’s attachment and fit before buying a replacement.
Ownership and service considerations
The reviewer says the watch’s removable shroud could trap salt, sand or dirt against the case, making the bezel harder to turn. In his account, rinsing after dives did not always prevent debris from collecting there. This is an ownership observation from the 2015 review, not a claim that every example will develop the issue or a recommendation to remove the shroud at home.

When comparing examples, look beyond the headline price. The condition and originality of the watch, its service history and included accessories all affect how useful a comparison is. Confirm the exact SBBN013 reference, and ask about strap or replacement-part fit rather than assuming compatibility from a similar-looking Tuna.
- Case and fit: Compare the reported 48 mm diameter and 15.3 mm height with your wrist and the way you wear sleeves.
- Movement and rating: Check that the listing is for the quartz SBBN013 and distinguish Seiko’s 1,000 m rating from its qualified test-depth statement.
- Materials and originality: Compare the listing’s shroud, bezel, crystal and other components with the details reported for the reference.
- Condition and service: Ask what work has been done and when, and consider whether the included strap or accessories are original.
- Price context: Compare an asking price with the dated WatchCharts estimate and with the individual watch’s condition; they are not interchangeable figures.
Who the Darth Tuna SBBN013 suits
The SBBN013 makes most sense for someone specifically seeking a substantial quartz saturation diver and comfortable with the practical compromises described in the review: conspicuous dimensions, significant thickness and the need to pay attention to debris around the shroud. Its reported light materials and short effective lug span may make it more wearable than the diameter suggests, but only trying the exact watch can settle fit. For a used example, reference accuracy, condition, originality and credible service history matter more than treating any single market estimate as the right price.
