The Rado DiaStar Original 60-Year Anniversary Edition is a 38 mm automatic watch announced in 2022 to mark the DiaStar’s 60th anniversary. Its defining details are a Ceramos coiffe, a hexagon-faceted sapphire crystal and two supplied straps. Rado’s pages consulted list it at CHF 1,950, €2,250 or, for China reference R12163118, ¥16,500; those are separate regional prices, not a universal price.
What is the DiaStar Original 60-Year Anniversary?
Rado announced the edition on 21 September 2022, in collaboration with Swiss designer Alfredo Häberli. Rado dates the first DiaStar’s presentation to the Basel watch fair in April 1962. The anniversary model revisits that history with a distinctive monochrome design rather than simply being another dial-color version of the current DiaStar Original. Swatch Group’s 2022 announcement and Rado’s collection page provide the brand’s account.
Rado describes the first DiaStar as “the world’s first scratch-proof watch.” That is Rado’s historical claim; it should not be read as an independent technical standard or a promise that this anniversary watch cannot be scratched.

How it differs from standard DiaStar Original models
Rado’s current collection page presents the anniversary edition alongside standard DiaStar Original models. The clearest documented differences concern the crystal, bracelet and dial choices:
| Feature | 60-Year Anniversary Edition | Standard DiaStar Original models described by Rado |
|---|---|---|
| Crystal | Sapphire with hexagonal facets | Parallel-stripe-faceted sapphire |
| Bracelet or strap | Woven Milanese mesh bracelet plus mottled grey textile strap, with EasyClip | Polished and brushed H-link stainless-steel bracelet |
| Dial options | Monochrome scheme | Blue, grey or green options |
| Movement and reserve | R764 automatic; 80 hours | Not stated for the standard models on the collection page; verify the exact reference |
| Price shown on Rado pages consulted | CHF 1,950 on the main collection page; €2,250 on the German page | CHF 1,400 on the main collection page; €1,600 on the German page |
The comparison reflects the models and prices shown on Rado’s main collection page and Rado Germany’s page. It does not establish that all standard references share the anniversary edition’s movement, power reserve, case size or water resistance.

Rado’s anniversary description centers on the Ceramos coiffe: its radial brushing and polished angles sit above a matching monochrome stainless-steel case and dial. In a later press release about other DiaStar Original models, Rado says Ceramos is comprised of around 90% titanium carbide and combines ceramic hardness with the toughness and lustre of a metal alloy. That material description is useful context, but the later release concerns different models and does not establish real-world scratch resistance for this anniversary watch. Rado’s later DiaStar Original release also describes those models with an R586 calibre and 48-hour reserve; those figures do not apply to the 2022 anniversary edition, whose announced movement is R764 with an 80-hour reserve.
