The Seiko Prospex Urban Safari SRPE29K1 and SRPE31K1 share the same core specifications: a 4R36 automatic movement, 200 m diver’s water resistance, and a 43.22 mm-wide, 12.67 mm-thick case. The clearest difference is their colorway: Fratello identifies the SRPE29 as khaki and the SRPE31 as elephant grey. Seiko announced the pair in 2020; its global Street Series page now marks both references “No longer available.”
Despite the original “Hands-On” framing, no first-person inspection or wear test is available here. This comparison is based on published specifications and product descriptions, not wrist time or performance testing.

The published sources show no difference in movement, dimensions, water-resistance rating, bezel type, or strap type. The colorway is the concrete distinction established in launch coverage. Seiko’s available text does not give the color names, so those labels are attributed to Fratello rather than presented as Seiko’s wording.
How the colorways differ
SRPE29K1: khaki
Fratello describes the SRPE29 as khaki. That gives this variant the more overtly safari-associated color of the pair, consistent with Seiko’s description of the Urban Safari concept as a meeting of Tokyo’s urban atmosphere and safari colors. This is a description of the design direction, not a claim about how the watch looks under particular lighting.

SRPE31K1: elephant grey
Fratello calls the SRPE31 elephant grey. The official text source does not name the shade, so buyers comparing listings should check that the exact reference is SRPE31K1 and review the seller’s photographs rather than relying on a color label alone.
Shared movement and functions
Both watches use Seiko’s 4R36 calibre. Seiko lists automatic operation with manual winding, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, day-and-date display, three hands, and a seconds-stop function. The official 2020 release does not state a power-reserve figure. Fratello gives the movement an approximate 40-hour reserve, which is secondary-source context rather than a figure confirmed in Seiko’s release.

Case, construction, and water resistance
Seiko specifies a 43.22 mm case diameter and 12.67 mm thickness for both references. These measurements are useful starting points for judging whether the watches may suit a wearer, but the cited sources do not provide a reliable lug-to-lug measurement. They therefore do not establish how either model will fit a particular wrist.
Seiko lists a stainless-steel case with a hard-coated outer protector, a screw-down caseback and crown, and a unidirectional rotating bezel. Both references have LumiBrite hands and indices and a reinforced silicone strap. Seiko specifies 200 m diver’s water resistance; that published rating is not an independent test result and, on its own, does not establish suitability for a particular dive or use case.

Why Seiko calls them Urban Safari
Seiko places the watches in its Prospex Street Series, which it says draws inspiration from its original 1975 professional diver. The company describes the outer protector as a defining element carried into a more compact design. Seiko’s global Street Series page puts it this way: “Inspired by the original 1975 Seiko diver’s, this new timepiece features the same iconic outer protector, in a more compact design perfect for urban living.”
The 2020 French launch release says the 1975 professional diver was nicknamed “Tuna” by watch fans. That is the historical design reference; it does not mean the SRPE29K1 or SRPE31K1 has the same specifications as the 1975 watch.

Launch price and availability
At launch in France in 2020, Seiko stated a recommended maximum retail price of €580. This was a geographically specific launch recommendation, not a current asking price. Seiko’s global Street Series page, accessed 4 October 2026, lists both SRPE29K1 and SRPE31K1 as “No longer available.” That is the manufacturer’s current page status, not evidence that no retailer or secondhand example can be found; current market prices and stock are not established here.
