The WBP1114.BA0000 pairs TAG Heuer’s TH50-00 Solar Quartz calibre with a 40 mm, 200-metre dive-watch case. Its practical appeal is reduced battery intervention; its biggest buying complication is that TAG Heuer currently marks this exact reference discontinued.
What “solar quartz” means here
TAG Heuer explicitly describes the TH50-00 as “a quartz movement powered entirely by light.” That means the watch keeps time using quartz regulation rather than a mechanical balance and mainspring. The Solargraph designation describes its energy system, not an automatic or hand-wound movement.
For buyers who want an Aquaracer’s straightforward accuracy and do not want routine disposable-cell changes, this is the central reason to choose the Solargraph. Anyone specifically seeking a mechanical seconds-hand experience should look at an automatic Aquaracer instead.
How the Solargraph charges
Short exposure can cover a day
TAG Heuer’s product page says one minute of light can provide about a day of operation. Its 2024 brochure gives a more specific condition: two minutes of direct sunlight is enough for a day. Those statements are not contradictory in practice; charging speed depends on light intensity, angle, distance and whether the exposure is indoor or outdoor.

TAG Heuer rates a full charge for up to 10 months without light. The brochure says less than 40 hours of exposure can fully charge the watch. These are manufacturer ratings, not an independent laboratory test, so treat them as operating guidance rather than a promise for every environment.
Battery replacement is a long-term consideration
The product information gives the rechargeable battery a stated lifespan of 15 years. That does not eliminate eventual servicing, and TAG Heuer does not publish a universal service interval for every owner or usage pattern.

| Case diameter | 40 mm |

The dimensions make this a comparatively compact Aquaracer by modern tool-watch standards, while the 200-metre rating, screw-down crown and rotating bezel preserve the model’s dive-watch purpose. The 19 mm lug distance is important when ordering replacement straps: confirm the exact fit for this reference rather than assuming a 20 mm accessory will work.
Solargraph versus ordinary quartz and automatic Aquaracers
The right comparison depends less on the word “quartz” than on how you want to power, wear and maintain the watch.

Choose the Solargraph when convenience is the priority
It suits an owner who wants quartz simplicity, does not want to track a routine disposable-cell change, and is comfortable letting ambient light maintain the watch. The case also provides the full Aquaracer specification rather than treating solar power as a novelty module.
Choose ordinary quartz when availability or familiarity matters more
A standard quartz Aquaracer may be easier to locate in a currently supported reference, but its battery type, dimensions, warranty and replacement schedule must be confirmed model by model.

Choose an automatic when the movement is part of the experience
An automatic is the better fit if mechanical construction, a traditional sweeping seconds hand and the ownership ritual of a mechanical watch matter more than light-powered convenience. Do not assume a service interval, accuracy figure or case specification across the entire automatic Aquaracer range.

The $2,800 figure is the price displayed on TAG Heuer’s product page, not a guarantee of what a current seller charges. Because the same page marks WBP1114.BA0000 discontinued, stock, warranty coverage and authenticity should be checked directly with an authorized retailer or a reputable pre-owned dealer before payment.

There are also Solargraph-branded limited editions that should not be confused with this reference. Time+Tide’s 2024 description of a Sundowner edition cites a 250-piece run, prices of A$4,450 and £2,750, and up to four years in power-saving mode. Those figures apply to that described limited edition, not automatically to WBP1114.BA0000.
Buying and ownership checklist
- Verify the reference number, because “Solargraph” covers more than one release.
- Ask whether the watch is new old stock, discontinued stock or pre-owned.
- Confirm the seller’s warranty, return policy and authentication process.
- Check that the 19 mm lug spacing matches any replacement bracelet or strap.
- Request condition photographs of the bezel, clasp, crystal and case, especially for pre-owned examples.
- Confirm the seller’s current price rather than relying on the historical $2,800 display.
- Keep the watch exposed to ordinary daylight; use direct sunlight only with sensible heat and safety precautions.
Verdict
If your reaction is “if it’s quartz, may as well make it solar,” the Aquaracer Solargraph is a coherent answer: quartz timekeeping with light-based energy storage, substantial water resistance and a relatively slim 40 mm steel case. Buy it for that combination, not because solar power turns it into a mechanical watch. The decisive practical check is availability—the exact WBP1114.BA0000 reference is discontinued, so the condition, warranty and current market price matter as much as the specification sheet.
