Seiko’s 2023 Presage Craftsmanship limited editions are easiest to tell apart by their dials: SPB393 has white enamel, SPB395 has urushi lacquer, SPB397 uses Arita porcelain, and SPB399 features Shippo enamel. The four watches were introduced for Seiko’s 110th watchmaking anniversary, with two different movements and edition quantities ranging from 800 to 1,500.

Seiko lists these specifications and edition quantities on its official 110th-anniversary Craftsmanship series page. The smaller stated edition for SPB399 is a difference in quantity, not evidence by itself of higher quality or future market value.
What distinguishes each dial?
SPB393: white enamel
SPB393’s white enamel dial includes a red Roman numeral at 12 o’clock. Seiko says the numeral recalls the original Laurel, its first wristwatch, introduced in 1913. Its 6R24 movement displays the date, day and power reserve.
SPB395: urushi lacquer
SPB395 pairs the 6R24 with a copper-brown urushi lacquer dial. Seiko connects the lacquer work to Kanazawa and names lacquer artist Isshu Tamura in its brand-history account.

SPB397: Arita porcelain
SPB397’s dial is made using Arita porcelain craftsmanship. Seiko identifies master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi and describes the watch’s date subdial and power-reserve indicator. The movement is Caliber 6R27.
SPB399: Shippo enamel
SPB399 uses Shippo enamel, a Japanese cloisonné-enamel technique. Seiko describes its wave-pattern dial as glazed, fired and polished, and names dial glazer Wataru Totani. Of the four references, it has the smallest stated edition quantity: 800.

Movement and edition differences
The movement split follows the models’ groupings: SPB393 and SPB395 use Caliber 6R24, while SPB397 and SPB399 use Caliber 6R27. Seiko’s series page provides those caliber assignments and the limited-edition quantities. Those facts make the reference numbers useful comparison points, but the available specifications do not establish comparative accuracy.

Seiko presented the quartet as part of its 110th-anniversary watchmaking celebration, looking back to the 1913 Laurel. The watches were originally listed as available from June or July 2023 on Seiko’s series page. That launch timing does not establish current stock or pricing.

For the Shippo enamel dial, Seiko quotes Wataru Totani saying, “Sharing this joy is my greatest satisfaction as a craftsman,” and describing the finished work as “the beauty of Shippo Enamel.” The comments refer to his work on SPB399’s dial.
