Michael Stockton called the Berneron Mirage 34 his favorite watch of 2024 after seeing non-running samples in Geneva. His case for it is the unusual, organic shape in a compact, thin dress-watch format, paired with handmade natural-stone dials and a new small manual-winding caliber. That is a reviewer’s judgment—not an award or a consensus ranking—and it was not based on evaluating a finished, running production watch.
What is the Berneron Mirage 34?
The Mirage 34 is a smaller, distinct member of the design family established by Berneron’s earlier Mirage 38. In his October 25, 2024 Fratello review, Stockton describes an organic, loose-oval case with asymmetrical contours echoed in the crystal, dial, hands, tilted crown, pin buckle and small-seconds subdial.
Stockton also addresses comparisons some detractors make to Cartier’s Crash. He argues that it is unfair to treat every amorphous watch as an homage. That is his response to the resemblance discussion; the review does not establish a design influence or a historical connection between the watches.

Fratello reports the same movement and other principal specifications for both variants; it does not describe a performance difference. The choice is chiefly about the stone’s appearance, the gold color and the matching strap-and-buckle combination.

How large is the Mirage 34, and how does it wear?
Fratello reports a 34mm width, 38mm lug-to-lug length and 7mm thickness. The review identifies the lug-to-lug measurement but does not define every measurement convention. It lists a domed acrylic crystal and a sapphire display back.
Stockton says the earlier 38mm Mirage felt too lengthy on his wrist, while he found the 34mm wearable as a dress watch. He wrote that it “does have definition and, despite its asymmetric nature, wears like a normal dress watch.” That is one reviewer’s wrist-specific impression, not a fit guarantee. His separate statement that the case “looks perfect” is likewise a personal design judgment.

What is notable about the stone dials?
Stockton describes the lapis and tiger-eye dials as handmade natural stone, just over 1mm thick. During his Geneva visit, he says he was told that the failure rate “borders on 60%,” because stones can fracture while being shaped or engraved for the small-seconds subdial. This is an anecdote relayed to the reviewer, not an audited manufacturing figure or a general statistic about stone dials.
What movement does the Mirage 34 use?
The reported Berneron Cal.215 is hand-wound and displays hours, minutes and small seconds. Fratello lists 25,200 vibrations per hour, 23 jewels, a 72-hour power reserve, and an 18K gold mainplate and bridges. During Stockton’s visit, the movement supplier had not been named. He saw a Cal.215 decal on the sample pieces; he did not report inspecting or testing a finished, running production movement. The review compares expectations with the Cal.233 in the Mirage 38, but does not establish that the Cal.215 is the same movement.

What did the watch cost, and is it available now?
Fratello’s October 2024 article reported production pricing of CHF 51,000 for 2026 and CHF 54,000 for 2027. It also reported planned production of 24 watches per dial color per year for ten years, beginning in 2025, and said the 2025 allocation was sold out at the time of publication. These are dated terms from the 2024 article, not confirmation of current availability, delivery timing, tax treatment or today’s final price.
Berneron’s official media page links to a Mirage 34 media kit and archives the Fratello article, but it is not an order page or independent confirmation of pricing.
