The Rolex Submariner 124060 is the no-date version of the current 41 mm Submariner: a black-dial, black-bezel Oystersteel dive watch with Rolex’s calibre 3230, approximately 70 hours of power reserve and a manufacturer-rated 300-metre water resistance. It is my favorite of the current Submariner options because I prefer the uncluttered no-date layout—not because the specifications make it objectively better for everyone.
What the Submariner 124060 is
Rolex identifies reference 124060 as the “Submariner Oyster, 41 mm, Oystersteel.” Its defining distinction from the Submariner Date is simple: this model has no date display. The black dial has Chromalight luminous markers, while the black Cerachrom ceramic bezel carries 60-minute graduations. A sapphire crystal protects the dial. Rolex’s US product page lists the current model and its specifications.
The Oyster case is monobloc, with a screw-down case back and Triplock screw-down crown. Rolex specifies water resistance to 300 metres (1,000 feet). That is the manufacturer’s rating for the model; it does not tell you whether a particular older or pre-owned watch remains water-resistant, which depends on its condition and testing.
Rolex says Oystersteel belongs to the 904L steel family. That is the manufacturer’s material description, not an independent comparison of corrosion performance.

Why I prefer the no-date version
The case for the 124060 is partly practical and partly personal. If you rarely check the date on your watch, leaving it off means there is no date window to set or accommodate on the dial. I prefer that pared-back display. If you rely on a watch for the date every day, the Submariner Date may suit your routine better.
That distinction is more useful than calling either watch universally superior. The current Submariner Date has a date display and uses calibre 3235; the no-date 124060 uses calibre 3230. Rolex describes both as self-winding manufacture movements with approximately 70 hours of power reserve. The decision is therefore not simply a choice between a more and less capable watch: start with whether you want a date, then choose the layout you enjoy wearing. Movement, accuracy and power reserve
The 124060 runs on Rolex calibre 3230, a perpetual, mechanical, self-winding movement with bidirectional automatic winding and stop-seconds. Rolex also lists a blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers. Its stated power reserve is approximately 70 hours; this is Rolex’s specification, not a measurement made for this article.
Rolex specifies finished-watch precision of −2/+2 seconds per day after casing and calls the 124060 a Superlative Chronometer. The brand describes the designation as official chronometer certification plus its own post-casing certification. Treat the accuracy figure as Rolex’s standard for the finished watch, rather than an independent result for every individual example.

Bezel, water resistance and bracelet details
Timing bezel and dive rating
The unidirectional bezel has a 60-minute scale for tracking elapsed time, including dive time and decompression stops. Rolex rates the case to 300 metres (1,000 feet). These features describe the watch’s intended function; they do not replace dive training, a dive computer, or established safety procedures.
Oyster bracelet and Glidelock
The solid-link Oyster bracelet has an Oysterlock folding safety clasp and Rolex’s Glidelock extension system. Rolex says Glidelock allows fine adjustments without tools and is designed to accommodate wearing the bracelet over a diving suit. In its technical overview, Rolex describes 10 adjustment notches of approximately 2 mm each—about 20 mm in total—and says the bracelet can be worn over a suit up to 3 mm thick.

How the 124060 fits into Submariner history
Rolex dates the Submariner’s launch to 1953, when the original model was rated to 100 metres (330 feet); the brand says the rating rose to 200 metres the following year. The Submariner Date arrived in 1969. Today’s no-date Submariner and Submariner Date carry different movements, calibre 3230 and calibre 3235 respectively, while both have approximately 70 hours of power reserve according to Rolex.
Price and where to verify a watch
On 3 October 2026, Rolex’s US product page displayed a price of $10,050 USD for the 124060. This is the manufacturer’s displayed US price on that date, not a confirmed transaction price, a statement of stock availability, a global price, or a resale valuation. Check the current local Rolex listing for an up-to-date regional price.
