The Seiko Prospex SNR045J1 (also written SNR045J) is a 500-piece Prospex LX limited edition with a titanium case, Spring Drive movement and 300-metre saturation-diver rating. Its green dial and bezel invite the Rolex Submariner “Hulk” comparison, but the watches are not interchangeable: the Seiko is substantially larger and uses Seiko’s distinctive Spring Drive technology.
What the SNR045J1 actually is
The SNR045J1 is a Prospex LX professional-diver model, not a regular-production Seiko. Seiko specifies a limited run of 500 pieces, with an individual serial number and “LIMITED EDITION” marking on the case back. That scarcity is central to the watch’s appeal and to the difficulty of finding one at a predictable price.

Why people see a “Hulk” connection
Green is the visual shorthand
The comparison works first at a glance. A saturated green dial and matching green rotating bezel place the Seiko in the same visual conversation as Rolex’s green Submariner nicknamed the “Hulk.” The color gives the watch an immediately recognizable luxury-sport identity rather than a conventional black-dial tool-watch look.
“On steroids” describes the scale
The exaggeration comes from the SNR045J1’s presence on the wrist. Its large, thick diver case, long lug span and broad bracelet create a more expansive silhouette than the compact profile many people associate with a Submariner. The phrase is therefore a proportion and attitude comparison—not a claim that the watches share dimensions, construction or market position.

Spring Drive is the real technical differentiator
Inside the SNR045J1 is Seiko’s Spring Drive calibre 5R65. It stores energy in a mainspring like a mechanical movement, then regulates the release electronically, producing the characteristic smooth glide of the seconds hand rather than a conventional mechanical tick.
Seiko rates the movement to ±15 seconds per month, or roughly ±1 second per day, and gives it approximately 72 hours of reserve. The movement also supplies the date, power-reserve display and stop-seconds function. As Time+Tide Watches reviewer James Robinson put it, “This superb Spring Drive movement offers not only three days of power reserve, but more importantly, an accuracy rating of +/-15 seconds a month.”

How it wears in real life
The titanium case does not make it small
Titanium helps control weight, but it does not change the watch’s footprint. The independent Time+Tide review found the SNR045J1 cumbersome for some wearers, particularly beneath shirt cuffs. Robinson wrote: “There’s no getting around the size, and if you decide to wear a shirt, it better have cuffs that flare larger than a pair of bell-bottoms.”
The dial is the counterargument
The same review described the dial as “achingly beautiful” and said it became more compelling with wear. That captures the trade-off: this is a watch chosen for visual impact and unusual engineering, not discreet versatility. Before buying, measure the case and lug-to-lug span against a watch you already wear comfortably, then check how your usual cuffs sit over a thick diver.

What the 300-metre rating means
The 300 m / 1,000 ft rating is specified for saturation diving, so the SNR045J1 is designed as serious underwater equipment as well as a luxury object. Its unidirectional bezel, screw-down professional-diver architecture and bracelet extender support that role. The rating does not make it a better everyday watch than a less-rated diver; it tells you the depth and diving-use standard Seiko designed the case to meet.

Prices are market- and date-specific. Seiko’s official page displayed SGD8,859.60 when crawled, while the Time+Tide review dated 25 July 2020 cited approximately A$9,400 and warned that the limited run could sell out. Those figures should not be treated as a current global price or a resale valuation. Inventory, asking prices and condition vary, so verify the seller, serial number, service history and return terms before committing.

Checks for a pre-owned example
- Confirm that the reference is SNR045J1 or SNR045J and that the case-back serial and limited-edition marking are present.
- Request clear photographs of the dial, bezel, clasp, case back and movement documentation.
- Check whether the Spring Drive power-reserve indicator behaves normally and whether the seconds hand glides smoothly.
- Ask for pressure-testing or service records if the watch will be used in water; a historical 300 m rating is not proof of present water resistance.
- Compare the total cost in your currency, including taxes, shipping, insurance and any service required after purchase.
Who should buy it?
It makes sense if you want
- A green luxury diver with far more wrist presence than a conventional Submariner-sized case.
- Spring Drive’s smooth seconds hand, long reserve and unusually tight stated accuracy.
- A genuinely scarce Prospex LX reference rather than a standard-production model.
- A watch whose design can serve as both a serious diver and a conversation piece.
Look elsewhere if you need
- A low-profile watch that disappears under ordinary office cuffs.
- A compact case or an easy, low-risk purchase with abundant current stock.
- A direct Rolex substitute. The green color creates recognition, but the engineering, proportions and ownership proposition are different.
Verdict
The SNR045J1 earns the “Hulk on steroids” label as a visual description: green, luxurious and dramatically oversized. Its stronger identity, however, comes from Spring Drive, a 300 m saturation-diver specification and a 500-piece production run. Buy it for that combination—and only after accepting that its impressive scale can be as challenging as it is beautiful.
