It is best understood as a new PRX interpretation of that earlier digital watch, rather than a claim that the exact 1977 model has simply been reissued.
Two late-1970s Tissot stories meet in one watch
Tissot describes the PRX Digital as “a daring fusion between the timeless PRX design and the Digital Quartz (with a 2040 Calibre), launched in 1977.” The dates matter: 1977 identifies the digital-watch reference, while 1978 marks the beginning of the PRX design family.

Tissot’s official history places the original PRX introduction within the Seastar family in 1978. That means the modern watch combines an earlier digital display concept with the later case-and-bracelet language associated with PRX.
What the PRX name means
Tissot says “PR” refers to “Particularly Robust” or “Precision and Resistance.” The “X” is used to indicate water resistance up to 10 bars in Tissot’s naming explanation. This describes the origin of the PRX name; it should not be treated as a separate, model-specific specification unless Tissot lists it for the particular digital reference.

PRX Digital sizes and executions
Tissot offers the PRX Digital in two case diameters and three finish-and-dial combinations. The brand describes an all-gold PVD version and stainless-steel versions with either a black or silver dial.
| Case size | Finish | Dial | Historical emphasis |
|---|---|---|---|
| 35 mm | Gold-tone PVD or stainless steel, depending on version | Black or silver where offered | 1977 Digital Quartz inspiration in a PRX-format case |
| 40 mm | Gold-tone PVD or stainless steel, depending on version | Black or silver where offered | 1977 Digital Quartz inspiration in a PRX-format case |
The available product description establishes the 35 mm and 40 mm sizes and the gold-tone, black-dial and silver-dial executions, but it does not assign every dial and finish combination to a specific diameter. Check the regional reference number before ordering.
Movement and digital functions
According to Tissot’s regional product article, the watch uses a Swiss-made K19 Quartz digital movement. Tissot lists the following functions:
- Backlight
- Dual time zones
- Day-date display
- Chronograph
- Timer
- Alarm
So, yes: the PRX Digital has both an alarm and a chronograph. The available information does not establish accuracy, battery life, alarm volume or the chronograph’s maximum timing range, so those details should not be inferred from the analog PRX line.

Crystal, case and finish
Tissot specifies mirror sapphire glass for the PRX Digital. The finish options are an all-gold PVD execution or stainless steel, with the dial described in black or silver. “Gold” here refers to the PVD finish rather than a solid-gold case.
Do not automatically transfer specifications from the standard analog PRX. For example, Tissot’s US listing for the analog quartz model T1374101142100 identifies a 40 mm 316L stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, interchangeable quick-release bracelet, 100 m water resistance and a $450 US price. Those are analog-model details, not confirmed specifications for the PRX Digital.
Is it a reissue of the 1977 watch?
Not in the strict sense of a one-for-one reproduction. Tissot presents the PRX Digital as a fusion: the digital concept and historical reference come from the Digital Quartz launched in 1977, while the recognizable integrated-bracelet design comes from the PRX lineage introduced in 1978. The modern case sizes, finishes and feature set are therefore part of a contemporary PRX product rather than evidence of an exact vintage case remake.
How to choose between the PRX Digital versions
Choose 35 mm for a smaller footprint
The 35 mm case is the smaller of the two listed sizes. It is the logical starting point for buyers who prefer a compact digital watch, but wrist fit will also depend on the integrated-bracelet proportions and the specific reference.

- Case Size: 40.00 millimeter; Band Width: 12 millimeter; Case Thickness: 10.40 millimeter
- Swiss quartz movement, 316L stainless steel case, Index dial type, date
- Stainless steel bracelet, butterfly clasp with push-buttons closure
- Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 meter / 330 feet): Suitable for short periods of recreational swimming and showering, but no diving or snorkeling.
Choose 40 mm for a larger presence
The 40 mm case provides the larger option in the PRX Digital range. Compare the actual lug-to-lug and bracelet fit at a retailer because diameter alone does not determine how an integrated-bracelet watch wears.
Choose gold-tone PVD for the strongest retro effect
The all-gold PVD execution makes the late-1970s inspiration most visually explicit. PVD is a surface treatment, so it is different from a solid-gold case.
Choose steel with black or silver for a lower-key look
The stainless-steel versions are described with black or silver dials. Black emphasizes the instrument-like digital display, while silver creates a brighter contrast with the steel case and bracelet.

Tissot’s published description establishes the historical references, sizes, finishes, crystal and listed functions. It does not provide, in the supplied product information, a launch price, battery-life figure, accuracy claim, limited-edition status, sales result or independent performance test. Those details should be verified against the current regional listing for the exact model number.
Buying checklist for a Tissot PRX Digital watch
- Confirm whether the listing is for the 35 mm or 40 mm case.
- Check the exact finish: gold-tone PVD or stainless steel.
- Verify the dial color, especially when comparing black and silver steel versions.
- Confirm that the listing names the Swiss-made K19 Quartz digital movement.
- Look for the stated functions—backlight, dual time zones, day-date, chronograph, timer and alarm.
- Verify that mirror sapphire glass is specified for the reference.
- Check the regional model number, price and stock at the time of purchase.
Accessory compatibility also requires care. Tissot’s cited interchangeable-strap information applies to an analog PRX 40 mm page; it does not by itself confirm that those straps fit the PRX Digital case.
