Samsung has discontinued distribution of Tizen watch apps, however, so in 2026 new downloads are generally unavailable. You can still try the original Galaxy Wearable route and check your previous purchases, but access depends on your country, Samsung account, app compatibility and whether Samsung still exposes the listing.
Before resetting your watch: a factory reset removes locally installed apps and watch faces. After the Tizen service shutdown, some content may not be recoverable.
Confirm that you have a Galaxy Watch3
The Watch3 uses Tizen 5.5, Samsung’s older smartwatch platform. Galaxy Watch4 and newer models switched to Wear OS Powered by Samsung. That platform difference determines which app store you use.

The original way to install a Watch3 app
This is the supported method Samsung documented for the Watch3. Interface labels can vary by phone, Galaxy Wearable version and region, and the catalog may now be empty.
- Pair the watch with your phone in Galaxy Wearable.
- Open Galaxy Wearable and select the connected Galaxy Watch3.
- Swipe to or tap Galaxy Store. Do not choose the Wear OS Store or Google Play instructions shown for newer watches.
- Search for the watch app or watch face.
- Open a compatible listing and tap Install.
- Keep Bluetooth enabled and leave the phone and watch connected while the package synchronizes.
- When the transfer finishes, open the watch’s apps screen and check for the new icon.
Samsung’s current model-specific instructions describe this Galaxy Wearable → Galaxy Store path and note that a stable network and Bluetooth connection are needed: Samsung app-management instructions. Samsung’s Watch3 manual also describes searching Galaxy Store directly on the watch as a historical alternative: Galaxy Watch3 user manual (PDF).
Trying the store on the watch itself
If a Galaxy Store icon is still present on the Watch3, open it, search for an item and choose Install. On current accounts and software, it may show no compatible content; the phone route is usually easier for checking account history.
What changed: Tizen watch-app distribution ended
Samsung’s developer notice says Tizen watch apps can no longer be newly registered or updated and that distribution through Galaxy Store is being discontinued: Tizen watch-app notice. Consequently, an old tutorial that simply says “open Galaxy Wearable and tap Galaxy Store” is historically correct but no longer a promise that an app can be downloaded.

One notice said Watch3-and-earlier content service ended on June 25, 2025, with previously purchased content available through September 30, 2025; another cited a January 1, 2026 cutoff for Tizen downloads. These dates are market- and account-dependent notices, not a universal guarantee for every country:

Therefore, treat new Tizen app availability as generally unavailable, while allowing for a listing that remains visible in a particular region or account.

Check whether a previously owned app can be restored
A past purchase is not automatically recoverable, but this is the one official check worth making before giving up.
- Open the phone’s Galaxy Store, or open Galaxy Store from Galaxy Wearable.
- Open the account menu.
- Choose My apps (the label may differ slightly).
- Filter for watch content if that option appears.
- Try Install only for an item Samsung still marks as compatible with the Watch3 and your phone.
An entry may remain visible as a purchase record while the download is blocked, delisted, region-restricted or incompatible. Samsung’s consumer notice specifically described My apps as the recovery route during its limited availability window; it does not guarantee restoration now.
Why Google Play instructions do not work
Google’s Wear OS Play Store instructions require a watch running Wear OS 2 or newer: Google Play help for Wear OS. The Watch3 is Tizen, so it has no native Google Play watch catalog. Installing an Android phone app from Google Play also does not create a Tizen watch component. A service must have a separate Tizen-compatible package, and many current listings target Wear OS instead.
Troubleshoot by symptom
Galaxy Store is missing in Galaxy Wearable
- Confirm that Galaxy Wearable shows Galaxy Watch3, not another connected model.
- Update Galaxy Wearable from your phone’s official app store.
- Turn on Bluetooth and verify that the phone has a stable internet connection.
- Sign in to the Samsung account used for earlier purchases.
- Check Galaxy Store → account menu → My apps.
- Restart both devices and check again.
If the Watch3 catalog is still absent, the likely explanation is regional/account availability or the Tizen service shutdown—not a setting that a factory reset will repair.
The app appears, but Install is unavailable
The listing may no longer support Tizen, may be unavailable in your country, require a newer watch, require a companion phone app, or be retained only as an old purchase record. Compatibility is checked per watch, phone, region and account.
The download stalls
- Keep the watch unlocked, charged and near the phone.
- Re-establish the Bluetooth connection in Galaxy Wearable.
- Use a reliable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection.
- Free storage on the watch if it is nearly full.
- Retry once; repeated failures with an otherwise working connection usually indicate that the listing is no longer distributed.
The app installed on the phone but not the watch
A phone app and a watch app are separate products. The phone listing must include a compatible Tizen component; a Wear OS-only companion cannot install on the Watch3.

Apps disappeared after a factory reset
A reset removes local content and device authorization. Re-pairing does not recreate a discontinued catalog. Use My apps before assuming a purchase can be restored, and avoid resetting a working Watch3 until you have checked essential apps and watch faces.
A paid app or watch face will not return
Check the original Samsung account, purchase history and compatibility listing. If proof of purchase exists and the item should be available in your market, contact Samsung support; support cannot guarantee recovery after the applicable cutoff.
Prerequisites that still matter
- A compatible phone paired through Galaxy Wearable.
- An up-to-date Galaxy Wearable installation.
- A Samsung account when the store requests one.
- Bluetooth enabled for phone-mediated installation.
- Stable internet access.
- Enough watch storage.
- An app that explicitly supports the Watch3/Tizen and your region.
LTE does not turn a Watch3 into a Wear OS watch and does not bypass the Tizen distribution shutdown.
Is sideloading a practical answer?
Not for most owners. Samsung’s official notices establish that Tizen distribution ended, but they do not provide a supported, general consumer sideloading workflow for restoring the former catalog. Unofficial procedures can require developer tools, certificates, package files and network configuration, with risks including malware, privacy exposure, incompatibility and a nonfunctional watch.

Keep the Watch3 if its built-in health, notifications, alarms, timers, workouts and existing watch faces meet your needs. Replacement is more rational when a missing service is essential or you need a dependable stream of new apps.

Can I download apps directly to a Galaxy Watch3?

No. The Watch3 runs Tizen. Google Play watch instructions apply to Wear OS models such as Galaxy Watch4 and newer.
Can LTE bypass the app-store shutdown?
No. LTE adds cellular connectivity; it does not change the Watch3’s Tizen platform or restore discontinued distribution.
Can I install an APK on a Galaxy Watch3?
Android APK instructions target Wear OS and do not directly apply. Unofficial Tizen sideloading is advanced, unsupported and carries security and compatibility risks.
What should I do before factory-resetting my Watch3?
Check Galaxy Store account history and My apps for every essential app and watch face first. A reset can remove content that is no longer downloadable.
