The TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra was an unusually capable Wear OS watch for its time: its dual-display design helped it outlast many rivals, while its rugged case and Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform made it a strong daily smartwatch. Its biggest review-era flaw was launching with Wear OS 2 while Mobvoi promised Wear OS 3. That update eventually arrived in December 2023, but it did not make this older watch a current-generation device. Today, it makes sense mainly as a deeply discounted used or refurbished buy—or if you already own one and value its battery-saving display.
What the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra is
Mobvoi positioned the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra as a rugged flagship in its Wear OS line. It was a refinement of the earlier TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, not a wholesale new generation: the core appeal remained its dual-display system, long battery life and capable launch-era performance. Notebookcheck described it as a small update to an already strong smartwatch (Notebookcheck’s review).
There are GPS and LTE/4G versions. Android Authority’s review covered the standard TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS; the LTE model shares most core specifications but adds cellular connectivity (Android Authority’s review). They are not interchangeable if phone-free calling or data is important.
Design, size and comfort
The watch measures 47 × 48 × 12.3 mm and weighs 41 g without its strap, according to Mobvoi’s specifications. Its case combines stainless steel with high-strength nylon and fiberglass; the 22 mm fluoro-rubber strap is interchangeable. A raised bezel helps shield the Gorilla Glass from direct knocks, but also adds to the watch’s substantial appearance and feel.

It is large and thick by mainstream smartwatch standards. The size may suit bigger wrists and anyone who likes a rugged watch, but it is not a universally comfortable choice, especially for smaller wrists or overnight wear. Two physical buttons are easier to use than a touchscreen alone during workouts or with gloves.
Why the dual display matters
The defining feature is a 1.4-inch AMOLED screen beneath a low-power FSTN display. Mobvoi lists the AMOLED resolution as 454 × 454, about 326 ppi, with always-on functionality and an adjustable backlight offering 18 colors (Mobvoi’s specifications).
Smart Mode
Smart Mode uses the full Wear OS experience and the color AMOLED display. It is the mode for apps, richer watch faces and normal smartwatch interactions.
Essential Mode
Essential Mode turns the watch into a much simpler device, using the low-power layer for basics such as time, date, steps, heart rate and battery information. It is useful when conserving power, but it is not 45 days of full smartwatch use. The switch between a vivid screen and a basic low-power display is also a compromise: people who expect every glance and interaction to look premium may find it appliance-like.

The design addresses a central Wear OS weakness—battery endurance—by reducing how often the AMOLED and full software stack need to be active. It does not remove the trade-off between rich smartwatch features and long runtime.
Battery life: read the mode, not just the headline
Mobvoi specifies a 577 mAh battery and claims up to 72 hours in Smart Mode or up to 45 days in Essential Mode (Mobvoi’s specifications). Those are different operating modes, not two estimates for ordinary full-featured use.

In Notebookcheck’s testing, using the conventional always-on display produced roughly 1 to 1.5 days of battery life (Notebookcheck’s review). Actual endurance also depends on brightness, GPS workouts, calls, LTE, Wi-Fi, music, sleep tracking, notifications and health sensors. GPS sessions and cellular use can add significant drain; Essential Mode saves power by giving up much of the full smartwatch experience.
A used unit needs a separate reality check. Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity with age and charge cycles, so a watch that once lasted well over a day may now need daily charging. Replacement economics may be unattractive if the watch itself is inexpensive; check the charger’s availability and condition as well.
Performance and software
The Pro 3 Ultra uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform alongside Mobvoi’s dual-processor system, with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. It also has Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi (Mobvoi’s specifications). When it launched, reviewers found it notably faster and smoother than many older Wear OS watches. Android Authority praised the hardware while treating the promised Wear OS 3 update as a major reservation (review); Android Central also praised its combination of everyday performance and battery life (review).
That praise belongs to its launch period. The Snapdragon Wear 4100 is now an older wearable platform, and 1 GB of RAM with 8 GB of storage is modest beside newer Mobvoi hardware. Do not expect it to perform like a current Snapdragon W5+ watch or to have the same remaining support horizon.
Wear OS 3 arrived—but the delay mattered
The Pro 3 Ultra launched on Wear OS 2, and early reviews reasonably criticized the gap between the software it shipped with and Mobvoi’s promise of Wear OS 3. That concern was not merely about a version number: in a fragmented watch ecosystem, an uncertain update timetable affected the value of the whole device. Mobvoi published Wear OS 3 update guidance on December 12, 2023, covering the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS and related Pro 3 models. Its listed eligible existing build numbers were PMRB.220703.001, PMKB.211102.004, PMKB.211102.002 and PMRL.220704.001. Mobvoi also instructed Android users to check that their phone supports the Mobvoi Health app. The exact model, region and installed build matter; the announcement does not establish that every regional or LTE variant received the update in the same way. What the update means in practice
Wear OS 3 brought the watch to a newer software generation, but the update is not a hardware refresh or a promise of every later Wear OS release. Mobvoi warned that its Voicememo and TicHearing apps would no longer be available after updating. Setup and management may also involve moving from the Wear OS phone app to Mobvoi Health, so check phone compatibility and the apps you depend on before proceeding.
If you are considering a used watch and the update is not offered, establish the exact model and current build before troubleshooting. A reset, unusual firmware state or regional variant can complicate pairing or migration; do not assume settings and data will transfer cleanly. Back up anything exportable and avoid unofficial firmware unless you have a recovery plan specific to that model.
Careful update checks
- Record the watch’s exact model and software/build number.
- Compare the build with the eligible numbers in Mobvoi’s update guidance.
- Install or update Mobvoi Health from the appropriate official app store and confirm that the phone is compatible.
- Export or back up any data the apps allow you to preserve, and review which Mobvoi apps will disappear after the upgrade.
- Start an offered update with the watch sufficiently charged and connected to Wi-Fi. If it remains unavailable, contact Mobvoi support with the model, build, region and phone model rather than sideloading firmware.
The available official update announcement confirms the Wear OS 3 rollout; it does not establish that the Pro 3 Ultra received Wear OS 4. Mobvoi’s Wear OS 4 announcement concerns the newer Pro 5 series, not this model (Mobvoi’s announcement).
Health, fitness and outdoor use
The sensor and connectivity package includes heart-rate and SpO2 sensors, an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, low-latency off-body sensor, microphone, speaker and vibration motor. Built-in GNSS supports GPS, BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS. Mobvoi lists NFC payments through Google Pay in supported countries (Mobvoi’s specifications).
For everyday wellness and activity tracking, that supports sleep tracking, heart-rate monitoring, blood-oxygen readings, workouts through TicExercise and outdoor activity data. Google Fit and third-party Wear OS apps may also be useful, depending on app availability and compatibility. Multiple satellite systems do not, by themselves, prove a particular level of GPS accuracy; no accuracy guarantee follows from the listed constellations.
Heart-rate and SpO2 readings are wellness features, not medical diagnosis. Fit, movement, skin contact, tattoos, temperature and exercise intensity can affect readings. Do not use a watch reading to diagnose a condition or make an urgent medical decision.

Durability, water resistance and LTE
Mobvoi lists an IP68 rating, pool-swimming suitability and a MIL-STD-810G durability claim, along with the barometer and multi-system GNSS (product specifications). These claims do not make the watch indestructible or waterproof for every activity. Pool suitability is not a promise of protection for diving, hot tubs, steam or high-pressure water. Water resistance can decline through age, impact, case opening or repair, and exposure to chemicals.
The GPS model relies on a connected phone for cellular-dependent tasks. The LTE/4G version is the one to consider for phone-free calls and connectivity, but activation depends on region and a compatible carrier or eSIM plan. LTE also uses more battery, and current carrier support may be harder to establish than it was at launch. Verify the exact model and carrier before buying.

Google Pay availability depends on country and participating banks; NFC hardware alone does not guarantee that a card can be added. Spotify’s offline playlists and podcasts require the relevant phone and watch apps to be current. More broadly, Google Play apps, Mobvoi Health pairing and individual features can depend on phone, software and region. Before purchase or an update, verify the exact phone, country, payment bank, carrier and apps you need. Do not assume that iPhone and Android use, or every Google service, work identically.
How it compares with newer Mobvoi watches
The Pro 5 and Pro 5 Enduro preserve Mobvoi’s battery-focused approach while using newer hardware. Their official US prices below are time-sensitive snapshots: Mobvoi’s US collection page showed $349.99 for each on August 18, 2026. That is a price signal, not a guarantee of current stock or price (Mobvoi’s US collection).

The Pro 5 is the clearest same-brand step up if you want the dual-display idea with newer processing, more memory and storage, and newer features. The Enduro is the more endurance-oriented option. Both remain large-format watches, and their listed specifications do not establish an Apple Watch-level ecosystem or long-term support record. If a Pro 3 Ultra is priced near either model, its age makes it difficult to justify.
Samsung Galaxy Watch models generally make more sense for buyers who prioritize Samsung ecosystem integration and mainstream support, though some health features are optimized for Samsung phones. Google Pixel Watch models emphasize Google and Pixel integration, but are generally less focused on rugged use and long endurance. Current model, price and compatibility comparisons depend on the specific watch and phone, so verify those details before choosing.
Who should buy, keep or avoid it?
It can make sense if
- You already own one and its battery, screen and core apps still meet your needs.
- You find a used or refurbished GPS model at a substantial discount and can verify its build, battery condition, charger and pairing status.
- You specifically value a low-power always-on display, rugged styling and a broad set of basic fitness sensors more than current hardware.
- You have checked phone compatibility and, for LTE, confirmed carrier and eSIM support.
Choose something else if
- The asking price is close to a newer Pro 5 or Pro 5 Enduro.
- You want a thin, light watch, newer health or training features, or a strong expectation of major future software upgrades.
- You need medical monitoring, guaranteed long-term support, or dependable phone-free LTE without first confirming compatibility.
- You use an iPhone or rely on a particular payment, app or carrier feature and cannot verify that it works with this exact model.
For an existing owner, the key choice is not whether Wear OS 3 exists—it does—but whether the update’s app losses and phone requirements suit your setup. For a buyer, inspect battery endurance in ordinary Smart Mode rather than judging by the Essential Mode maximum, and treat used-device condition as part of the price. Mobvoi’s legacy product page does not establish a current US selling price or stock for the Pro 3 Ultra (product page).
