T137.407.11.051.01) keeps the familiar 40mm steel case and bracelet. The PRX Carbon (ref. T137.907.97.201.00) changes the case to forged carbon, measures 40.5mm, weighs 75g, and comes on an FKM rubber strap. Both list an automatic movement with up to 80 hours of power reserve and 100m water resistance. This is a specification-based first look, not a hands-on review.
Which PRX models are being compared?
Tissot’s US product pages identify the blue-gradient steel watch as T137.407.11.051.01 and the forged-carbon model as T137.907.97.201.00. The distinction matters: one is a steel PRX with a gradient dial, while the other combines a forged-carbon case and black carbon dial.
The PRX collection was relaunched in 2021, drawing on a design Tissot dates to 1978; that is collection history, not a confirmed launch date for these specific references. Tissot’s PRX pressroom page describes the collection’s extensions and materials.

What changes in appearance and materials?
Gradient dial in a steel PRX
The blue-gradient reference adds a changing color treatment to a steel 40mm PRX, while retaining a steel bracelet. Tissot describes the dial as an extension of the 40mm PRX Powermatic 80. Its official product page says the gradient “plays with light and colour”; that is the manufacturer’s description, rather than an independent assessment of its appearance in different lighting.
Forged-carbon case and dial
The carbon reference is visually and materially distinct: its case and black dial use forged carbon, and Tissot says each example is unique. It is listed at 40.5mm across and 75g, versus 40mm and 138g for the gradient steel watch. Those figures make the published weight difference clear, but do not by themselves establish durability, comfort, or scratch resistance in use.

Are the movement and water-resistance ratings different?
Both official listings specify an automatic movement with up to 80 hours of power reserve and a 100m / 10 bar water-resistance rating. The balance-spring materials differ: Tissot lists a patented Nivachron spring for the gradient steel reference and a silicon spring for the carbon model. The product pages do not provide independent accuracy comparisons or performance testing.
Can you use another PRX strap on the carbon model?
No—not according to Tissot. The carbon product page warns that other PRX 40 straps are not suitable for this watch and advises ordering its original strap through an authorized Tissot retailer. The gradient reference, by contrast, is supplied with a quick-release steel bracelet. Check Tissot’s carbon-model page for the strap warning and current product details.

How much do the two watches cost?
When accessed in 2026, Tissot’s US pages displayed $850 for the blue-gradient reference and $1,150 for the carbon model. These are dated US listing prices, not a guarantee of current price, stock, or availability. Swatch Group Japan’s release lists ¥154,000 including tax for the carbon reference; its publication year is not established on the accessed release, so it should be treated as a regional release price rather than a current US equivalent. Read the Swatch Group Japan release.

- Choose the gradient steel reference if you want the 40mm steel-and-bracelet configuration with a gradient dial.
- Consider the carbon reference if the forged-carbon case and dial, lighter listed weight, and supplied FKM strap are the features you are seeking—and you are comfortable with its reference-specific strap restriction.
The published specifications do not settle questions of wrist fit, real-world accuracy, legibility, or long-term wear. Those are best judged in person rather than inferred from the material names or product-page measurements.
