The iPhone 16 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 10 launched in September 2024, so in 2026 they are previous-generation products. Their compact, fiber-focused packages are refreshingly simple: the iPhone includes the phone, a USB-C cable and documentation; the Watch includes the watch, a selected band and a magnetic USB-C charging cable. Neither listed package includes a wall adapter, and the Watch still requires a compatible iPhone for setup.
What this unboxing covers
Configurations matter. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities, with Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium or Desert Titanium finishes. U.S. models use eSIM rather than a physical SIM card. Apple Watch Series 10 comes in 42mm or 46mm sizes, aluminum or titanium cases, GPS or GPS + Cellular versions, and multiple bands and sizes. Packaging can therefore differ by region, case, connection type and band.
A sealed retail unit is not identical to an Apple Certified Refurbished unit. Apple says refurbished products receive a new battery and outer shell and arrive in a new white box with accessories and manuals. Unboxing the iPhone 16 Pro Max
Opening the box
The flat package uses paper pull tabs or tear strips rather than the bulky packaging associated with older phones. Depending on the exact retail batch and region, exterior seals may be paper or shrink-wrap. Lift the lid carefully and note the phone’s presentation, then remove the documentation compartment and the coiled USB-C cable beneath it.

Apple does not list a power adapter, case, screen protector or MagSafe Charger in the box. The cable is USB-C, so an older USB-A iPhone adapter cannot connect directly without a different cable or a USB-C adapter. Apple specifies USB 3 transfer support up to 10Gb/s for the phone, but that capability should not be confused with the exact speed rating of the included cable. First physical impressions
The phone has a titanium frame, textured matte glass back, a prominent camera module, an Action button and the new Camera Control on the right edge. Its 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display and 227-gram weight make it a substantial one-handed device. The specification sheet lists an A18 Pro chip, 2868-by-1320 resolution at 460 pixels per inch, USB-C and capacities from 256GB to 1TB.

Unboxing the Apple Watch Series 10
Two-part presentation
The Watch is presented in a slim package, while the selected band is commonly supplied in its own sleeve or box. The case, band style and size are matched to the order, so a 42mm aluminum GPS package will not look identical to a 46mm titanium GPS + Cellular package. Apple describes Series 10 packaging as 100% fiber-based and containing recycled fiber content.
AppleInsider reported that the black protective sleeve around the watch was tight and tore during removal in its September 20, 2024 unboxing. That is an observation from one package, not evidence of a universal defect: AppleInsider’s unboxing.

A USB-C wall adapter is not listed. The charger can be used with a suitable USB-C adapter, including one purchased for the iPhone.
First physical impressions
Series 10 is thinner than earlier Apple Watch designs and has a wide-angle Always-On OLED display rated at up to 2,000 nits. The case includes the Digital Crown, side button, speaker and microphone. Aluminum models use Ion-X front glass; titanium models use sapphire crystal. Case weight varies with size, material and cellular hardware.

What setup involves
iPhone setup
- Power on the phone and choose language and region.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or cellular service.
- Use Quick Start to transfer from an old iPhone, or restore from iCloud, Mac or PC backup.
- Sign in with an Apple Account, configure Face ID and set up Apple Pay if wanted.
- Install available iOS updates, then review Camera Control and Action button settings.
- Confirm eSIM activation. U.S. buyers moving from a physical SIM need carrier support and activation access.
- Fit a case and screen protection before normal use if you want that protection.
Watch setup
- Charge the watch if needed and hold it near the unlocked iPhone.
- Follow the pairing flow and choose “Set Up for Myself” or the appropriate family option.
- Restore from a backup or set up as new, then sign in to the Apple Account.
- Create a passcode and select wrist and crown orientation.
- For GPS + Cellular, complete carrier activation and choose a supported plan.
- Review health, sleep, fall detection, crash detection and notification settings deliberately.
- Adjust the band so it is secure without being uncomfortably tight.
Series 10 requires an iPhone Xs or later, including iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later, running iOS 18 or later. Cellular features require a supported carrier and service plan. Menus can change with iOS and watchOS updates, and health features vary by region, language, age and software. They are not medical diagnoses. What you still need to buy
- USB-C power adapter: required to plug either included cable into a wall outlet.
- MagSafe Charger: optional for magnetic iPhone charging; the charger and suitable adapter are separate.
- iPhone case and screen protector: optional, but relevant for a large, expensive phone with a pronounced camera bump.
- Extra Watch band: useful for exercise, sleep or formal wear. Match the band to the 42mm or 46mm case family.
- Cellular plan: required for independent cellular connectivity on a GPS + Cellular Watch.
Which configurations make sense?
iPhone storage and finish
256GB is a sensible starting point for ordinary photo and app use. Choose 512GB or 1TB if you record substantial 4K video, use ProRes workflows, keep large offline libraries or plan to retain the phone for years. Titanium color is a design choice; no finish is documented as faster or more capable.

Watch size, material and connection
- 42mm: generally less prominent and better suited to smaller wrists.
- 46mm: offers more display area but can feel oversized on smaller wrists.
- GPS: appropriate when the iPhone or Wi-Fi is usually nearby.
- GPS + Cellular: useful away from the iPhone, but adds carrier eligibility and a recurring plan.
- Aluminum: the lighter practical option with Ion-X glass.
- Titanium: a premium case option with sapphire crystal and configuration-dependent weight and price.
Should you buy both?
Buying both is coherent for an existing iPhone user who wants integrated notifications, Apple Pay, activity and health tracking, and a large-screen Pro phone. It is less compelling if you dislike daily watch charging, already own a recent Apple Watch, have little interest in wrist notifications or would be stretched by the combined cost and any cellular plan.
Buying the Watch alone only makes sense when you already own a compatible iPhone: Series 10 is not a standalone replacement for an iPhone during setup or normal Apple ecosystem use.
Buying these products in 2026
Expect a mixture of remaining new stock, Apple Certified Refurbished units and used devices. Refurbished packaging, accessories and condition can differ from sealed retail packaging. For used Apple Watch units, confirm that the previous owner erased the watch and removed Activation Lock; otherwise pairing may be blocked. Check battery health, warranty and return terms before purchase.
