Quite possibly one of the measuring sticks that all other American comedy sitcoms compared to, Friends was a long-running comedy series that ran for about ten seasons with a whopping 236 episodes under its belt. The first episode of the show aired back in 1994. The series went on a tear up until its finale in 2004.
Unless you live under a rock, you are probably aware of this television series, even if you haven’t seen a single episode. It’s a part of pop culture history and will find new generations of fans, showing its timeless appeal.

For the uninitiated, Friends is a series that follows the lives of six, you guessed it, friends, as they go about their lives in New York City. This television series was nominated for a jaw-dropping 62 Primetime Emmy Awards and is regularly on the list of the best television shows in history.
This iconic TV series is a trailblazer and shows like The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother may not have been possible without Friends kicking down the door during its time. Speaking of time, ever wonder what the six main characters of the series preferred watch brand is? Let’s see if the watches complement the personality of the characters wearing them.
But before that, it’s time for a little bit of fun trivia about this classic sitcom. This section will be a sure treat for fans, old and new, before heading on over to the main dish.

Las Vegas Trip Before the Premier

The show’s director, James Burrows, brought all six cast members to Las Vegas before the show’s premiere on television. Burrows told all six cast members to enjoy their stay in Las Vegas as this will be the last time they will be able to enjoy their anonymity – and he was right.

Courtney Cox is Perfect Casting for Monica

Both Cox and Monica share several similarities, such as being organized and intelligent. Writer and producer of the show, Marta Fran Kauffman, revealed that Courtney Cox was such a neat freak on the set. Cox had a habit of not only cleaning her dressing room but the rooms of the other cast members as well.

Working Around Limitations

Remember the episode “The One Where No One’s Ready”? The episode revolved entirely inside Monica’s apartment as the gang tried to make it to Ross’ museum function but can barely make it to the door? That classic episode came about due to budget cuts and was not able to shoot in multiple locations. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Ross Did Not Age for Three Seasons

If you watch seasons three to five, you will notice that Ross states that he is 29 years old – for three years. Maybe this is an honest mistake on the writer’s part, or you can put this on the character of Ross himself being uncomfortable about turning 30.

Jennifer Aniston Hated the Iconic ‘Rachel’ Haircut

Aniston has revealed in interviews that she felt her haircut in the show felt cringe-worthy. However, due to the hairstyle being a signature of Rachel, Aniston could not freely choose her hairstyle throughout the series.

United they Stand

With the massive success of Friends, the cast decided to ask for a pay raise by the third season. They did so as a group and requested that all will have equal pay – a first in television history. The cast managed to secure $75,000 per episode and ratcheted it up to 1 million dollars per episode around the end of the series.

No Reboot or Return?

As of this writing, the closest thing we have to a return is the HBO Max one-off Friends Reunion special. This particular episode will have all the original cast, directors, writers, and producers in tow. Will there be a season 11 after the reunion special? Well, producer Kauffman is not keen on the idea of continuing the story further than that.
Kauffman states that Friends is about the strong bond and relationship between the six main characters. With Monica and Chandler starting a family and moving out of the apartment, that main story has effectively closed.

Ross’ watch brand of choice is TAG Heuer. We can see Ross wearing several TAG Heuer watch models throughout the series, specifically the Formula 1 and 6000 Series.
The polished silver-tone case and bracelet with a black or blue dial are synonymous with TAG Heuer’s timepieces. We see Ross change to the TAG Heuer Link series in later seasons as well.
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch features a 41mm stainless-steel case and incorporates a sporty design. It typically uses rubber band straps, but more luxurious variations that feature stainless-steel bracelets are available.
It also utilizes Swiss quartz movement with its analog dial display. Other features include a date display and a 200-meter water resistance rating.

Monica wears several watches throughout the series; one particular and noticeable brand her character wore during the last couple of seasons is the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. This watch brand is undoubtedly a perfect timepiece for the most mature member of Friends, as Monica typically acts as the “mother” of the group.
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra exudes a level of refinement with its in-house automatic chronometer caliber 8900 movement which Omega dubs “the world’s first master chronometer”.
The Stainless-steel case and bracelet use a polished aesthetic, while the blue dial enhances the visual flair of the timepiece and highlights its aquatic theme.
The case comes with a durable and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal window with an anti-glare finish. Other notable features include the anti-magnetic watch construction, a date display feature, and a 150-meter water resistance rating.

Rachel is trendy and stylish, making it not shocking to see that she prefers to wear Rolex timepieces. In particular, the 36mm Rolex models. During the earlier seasons of Friends, we can see Rachel wearing silver-toned Rolex Datejust watches.
Later on, she did switch to the Day-Date models but still preferred the 36mm case size.
The Rolex Datejust is a classy and luxurious timepiece that complements the fashionista personality of Rachel. It features a solid 18K white gold bezel and a 36mm stainless-steel case which fits nicely with petite wrists.
The watch comes with a self-winding automatic chronometer movement which operates its analog dial display. The dial also uses Roman numeral hour markers that add to the timepiece’s classy nature.
What more can we say? This timepiece is a Rolex watch, and you know what you are getting into when you buy this high-quality luxury watch brand.
Alas, only half of the main cast seems to incorporate timepieces into their attire as the other three rarely wear wristwatches.
If you like the look of this watch, but don’t make the $1M per episode to afford the price tag, check out these Rolex Ladies Datejust alternatives, these watches mimic the style at a more affordable price.
