Windows Wrist Watch 2.0 is a DIY Raspberry Pi wearable that emulates Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows XP with QEMU. It is a retro-computing project, not a ready-made smartwatch: the maker’s own account describes slow emulation, unreliable touchscreen input, heat and fast battery drain.
What is Windows Wrist Watch 2.0?
It is a maker-built wrist wearable using a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and a Pimoroni HyperPixel 4.0 display. The project’s claim that it can “kind of” run three Windows versions is deliberately qualified: Windows runs inside QEMU emulation rather than natively on the Pi. The project is attributed to 314Reactor; Hackster identifies its creator as Michael Darby (ElectroMaker project; Hackster).
The maker described the build as “never really meant to be anything more than a bit of fun.” Its appeal is the novelty of carrying a tiny retro-computing setup on the wrist, rather than smartwatch convenience or practical everyday use. Open-Electronics also describes it as a four-inch touchscreen wearable that involves light soldering and setup on another computer (Open-Electronics).

The maker’s documented parts list describes one specific build, not a currently validated shopping list. It includes:

The figures are component specifications in the project list: 4.0 is part of the HyperPixel display name, 1000mAh is the listed battery capacity, and 16GB is the listed SD card size. They are not performance measurements. In particular, the battery capacity does not establish how long the watch runs; the maker reports that the display drained it quickly and considered a larger battery for a future revision. Check present-day stock and compatibility before attempting to recreate this older build (ElectroMaker parts list).
How does the Windows setup work?
The maker’s instructions describe preparing a Raspberry Pi Linux installation, configuring it to start the desired environment, installing QEMU, and transferring disk images prepared on another computer. QEMU is the key distinction: the Pi is hosting virtualized, emulated Windows environments rather than running those Windows versions directly on its hardware.

The documented voice-control setup used Wit.ai and needed an internet connection for voice recognition. That is a description of the original implementation, not assurance that its services, repositories or instructions remain maintained, compatible or safe to use today. Windows images and their licensing also need to be handled independently; the project description does not establish that the operating systems or image files are supplied with the hardware.
What are the practical limitations?
Slow emulation
The maker says the Raspberry Pi 3 ran virtual machines faster than an earlier Pi A+ build, but performance remained slow. This is an account of this particular setup, not a general QEMU benchmark or a prediction for every configuration.

Touch input and XP errors
The maker reports that QEMU touchscreen input did not work reliably with the HyperPixel touch display. Windows XP images also sometimes triggered memory-allocation errors. Open-Electronics repeats the reported performance and touch-input caveats, but neither source establishes that the same problems affect every possible version or configuration.
Heat and battery life
The creator says the device heated up quickly and the screen used battery quickly. The project does not publish a verified runtime, so the listed 1000mAh battery should not be read as a promise of a particular number of hours.

Build effort
Assembly involves hardware work, including light soldering, as well as preparation on another computer. Although the project lists a one-hour estimate, its instructions also encompass software setup and image preparation; treat that figure as a project estimate, not a dependable end-to-end build time.
