They launched in China from RMB 1,999. The headline is easy to misread: these are not the separate Mijia Smart Audio Glasses sold through some international Xiaomi channels.
What Xiaomi actually launched
Xiaomi introduced the AI Glasses as a China-first wearable for its domestic ecosystem. Xiaomi said sales began through Chinese channels including Mi.com, Mi Home and the Xiaomi Auto App, with a starting price of RMB 1,999. The announcement does not establish a worldwide release, a U.S. launch or U.S. pricing.
The official description covers camera, audio and voice-AI functions. It does not identify an in-lens display, so buyers should not expect translated words or augmented-reality graphics to appear in front of their eyes. The intended interaction is primarily spoken prompts, audio responses and camera-based analysis.

What the camera and AI can do
Visual recognition and translation
The camera lets the wearer ask about objects and scenes in view, recognize visual subjects and translate visible text. Xiaomi also describes QR-code scanning and smartphone-camera collaboration. QR scanning, 2K recording, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage are reported by Tech Times; those details should be treated as secondary reporting unless confirmed for the exact Chinese configuration by Xiaomi.
Calls, livestreaming and meeting assistance
The 12MP camera supports first-person video calls and livestreaming, including collaboration with a Xiaomi phone. Xiaomi also lists automatic transcription, smart meeting summaries, daily questions and answers, calorie counting and real-time interpretation. These features make the glasses more than an audio headset, but the announcement does not establish that all processing happens on the glasses or works without a phone or network connection.
How live translation works—and what is still unknown
Xiaomi says the glasses provide real-time interpretation in 10 languages, naming English, Japanese, German and Spanish among them. That statement does not guarantee instant, human-level translation, every language pair or availability in every country.
- Text translation from a sign or menu is different from two-way spoken conversation.
- Transcription is different from interpreting a live exchange.
- Latency, accuracy, offline operation and transcript retention are not specified in the launch material.
- Performance can vary with accents, fast speech, crosstalk, background noise, network quality and regional account restrictions.
Travelers should verify the required language pair and whether the service is enabled for their account region before treating the glasses as a translation solution. They should not be considered a replacement for a professional interpreter.

Battery life and charging
The headline’s “8-hour battery” is a rounded version of Xiaomi’s stated maximum: up to 8.6 hours of use from a 263mAh battery. “Use” is not a promise of 8.6 hours of continuous recording, livestreaming or translation. Camera activity, calls, AI queries, speaker volume, Bluetooth, network conditions, temperature and standby behavior can all change endurance.
Xiaomi’s global launch description mentions USB-C charging and plug-in livestreaming. Tech Times describes a magnetic two-pin connector and an approximately 45-minute full charge. Those descriptions may refer to different configurations, so buyers should verify the connector and included accessories for the exact Chinese model.
Design, audio and comfort
The frame weighs approximately 40g, comes in black, brown and green, and can be ordered with electrochromic lenses. Xiaomi says the tint can switch in about 0.2 seconds. Electrochromic lenses change tint; they are not a visual display. Weight can vary with frame, lens and prescription configuration.
Open-ear speakers leave the ear canal unobstructed, helping users hear traffic and nearby conversation. The trade-offs are possible sound leakage, weaker bass and reduced intelligibility in loud environments. Xiaomi lists wind-noise resistance and use while cycling at wind speeds up to 12m/s, but that is a manufacturer claim rather than independent testing.

The five-microphone AI Glasses array should not be confused with the four microphones in the separate Mijia model. Xiaomi says the AI Glasses use bone-conduction-related voice pickup and wind-noise reduction. Local laws may restrict wearable audio use while driving or cycling.
Privacy is a core buying issue
A camera, livestreaming, calls and recording create obligations for the wearer and risks for bystanders. Before buying, look for clear answers about the recording indicator, whether it can be disabled, where photos, video, transcripts and AI queries are stored, whether cloud processing is required, retention periods, export and deletion controls, and notice to people being recorded.
The launch material confirms the functions but does not fully document those privacy controls. Workplaces, schools, hospitals and other sensitive locations may prohibit camera wearables. Recording conversations must comply with local consent and privacy laws. Xiaomi’s separate Mijia product explicitly warns users to respect local law, but that warning is not a complete privacy policy for the AI Glasses.

The naming overlap is the biggest consumer-protection issue. The Mijia Smart Audio Glasses are an audio-first product documented on Xiaomi’s international site; they are not the camera-equipped AI Glasses described above.

Price, availability and the risks of importing
The confirmed launch price is RMB 1,999, with Chinese sales beginning immediately after the announcement. Xiaomi’s announcement does not confirm U.S. availability, local warranty coverage or a global app experience. The China buying page and official product description are the relevant references for that market.
Importing can mean Chinese-language firmware or account requirements, unavailable AI services, no local repair or warranty, difficult prescription-lens servicing, incompatible accessories, customs and return problems, and uncertainty about data processing. Anecdotal users report that basic Bluetooth audio or camera functions may work outside China while some AI services do not; such reports are not an established Xiaomi policy.
International shoppers should not assume that the Mijia model is an equivalent substitute. Xiaomi’s UK page and other regional pages document an audio product, not the AI camera and announced interpretation system.
Who should consider them?
Potentially compelling for
- China-based Xiaomi users who want tight ecosystem integration.
- People who value hands-free first-person video, visual questions and livestreaming.
- Buyers who prefer open-ear audio and accept region-dependent AI services.
- Users who understand that 8.6 hours is a maximum manufacturer claim.
Better to wait or avoid if
- You need guaranteed U.S. support, warranty and app availability.
- You require dependable two-way translation for important travel or work.
- You want an in-lens display or fully offline AI.
- You prioritize private, high-fidelity music playback.
- You are uncomfortable wearing a camera around other people.
- You need universally available prescription servicing.
How they compare with Ray-Ban Meta
Ray-Ban Meta is the more obvious internationally marketed alternative for camera capture, open-ear audio, calls and an established retail and support footprint. Xiaomi’s announced product puts greater emphasis on Xiaomi phones, multimodal visual AI and Chinese-market services. Neither product should be assumed to provide an in-lens display simply because it includes AI.
Verdict
Xiaomi AI Glasses are an interesting China-first AI wearable, not proof of a globally available “smart audio glasses” product. For supported Xiaomi users, the camera, visual recognition, interpretation and first-person communication features could be useful. For international buyers, regional software access, privacy controls, translation performance, warranty and real-world camera-heavy battery life matter more than the headline specifications. If the goal is simply lightweight open-ear audio, the separate Mijia Smart Audio Glasses are the relevant Xiaomi product—but they do not provide the same camera-driven AI experience.
