Yes—the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro was a big step forward for Xiaomi. Its move to Wear OS brought Google Play and familiar services such as Maps and Wallet to hardware that already had a premium stainless-steel design, a sharp AMOLED screen and dual-band GPS. But it is not an across-the-board breakthrough: the large, heavy case, inconsistent battery endurance, software rough edges and region-dependent LTE support make it a selective buy, especially now that it is an older-generation watch launched in 2023.
It suits Android users who want Google apps, substantial storage and a traditional-looking smartwatch. It is a poor match for iPhone owners, small wrists, serious endurance training or anyone expecting several days of active use between charges. Availability, warranty and service support also need checking in the buyer’s country rather than assuming launch-era prices or carrier compatibility still apply.
What makes the Watch 2 Pro a step forward?
The important change is software. Earlier Xiaomi watches could offer capable hardware and health features but had limited third-party app support. The Watch 2 Pro runs Google Wear OS, giving it access to Google Play and apps including Google Maps, Google Wallet and Spotify. That makes it a more conventional Android smartwatch, rather than primarily a fitness watch that mirrors phone notifications. Tech Advisor called Wear OS transformative to its recommendation value. Tech Advisor’s review explains why the software shift mattered.
That change does not make every part of the experience polished. A review by Wareable reported occasional unresponsive apps, charging-screen lockups that could require a reset, an unintuitive route into workout tracking and shortcomings in bedtime behavior. The Watch 2 Pro’s central proposition is therefore a stronger app ecosystem on appealing hardware—not software execution that is automatically better than every rival.

Design, fit and everyday comfort
This is a large watch. Xiaomi lists dimensions of 47.6 × 45.9 × 12.5mm and a weight of about 54g without the strap. The round case is stainless steel, offered in black or silver, with strap combinations that vary by market and edition: black fluororubber or brown leather. The dimensions and weight are from Xiaomi’s global product specifications.
The size gives it a substantial, traditional-watch presence, but it is a fit risk for small wrists. A case this wide and thick may overhang a narrow wrist or feel top-heavy; the best check is to try it on, particularly if you sleep in your watch. Wareable found the steel watch uncomfortable during exercise and sleep, and reported that it could move unless the strap was tightened. That trade-off matters more than the premium material if you want a close, stable fit for workouts or overnight tracking.
Xiaomi sells versions with leather or fluororubber straps, depending on the market. The rubber strap is the more practical choice for sweaty sessions and regular water exposure; leather is better reserved for everyday wear. The product information does not establish a universal strap bundle, so check the exact regional package before buying.
The bezel is a visible part of the watch’s design, but the tactile navigation control is the rotating crown—not a Samsung-style rotating bezel. The crown turns for navigation and presses to select; two side buttons provide additional shortcuts and controls. If rotating-bezel navigation is important to you, do not assume the crown will feel the same.

The circular AMOLED measures 1.43 inches, with a 466 × 466 resolution and a stated pixel density of about 326ppi. Xiaomi supports an always-on display and says the watch includes more than 20 built-in faces, with additional options available through the platform. Wareable praised the screen’s brightness and detail, while noting that scrolling could look less smooth than the stated 60Hz refresh rate might suggest. The crown gives navigation a physical control, backed by the two buttons and touchscreen. That is useful on a watch this large, but it does not remove the software’s occasional roughness. Enabling the always-on display also has a meaningful battery cost, covered below.

Wear OS, apps and phone features
Google Play is the Watch 2 Pro’s biggest practical advantage over Xiaomi’s older closed software. Xiaomi claims access to more than 200 third-party apps; that is a platform availability claim, not a promise that those apps are preinstalled or that all work identically in every country. The watch has 32GB of eMMC storage and 2GB of RAM, leaving room for apps, faces and offline media, though Xiaomi does not state the amount available to the user after system software.
- Google services: Google Maps, Google Wallet and Google Assistant are among the services associated with the Wear OS experience, but Wallet, Assistant and some functions depend on country, language and account support. Check local service availability before relying on them.
- Music: Spotify can be installed from Google Play. Xiaomi says Premium subscribers can download playlists, albums and podcasts for offline listening; that requires the subscription and downloaded content. See Xiaomi’s Spotify support instructions.
- Notifications and communication: The watch can show phone notifications and offers a speaker and microphone. Wear OS supports richer interactions than simple notification mirroring, but available replies and calling behavior depend on the app, paired phone and, for phone-free cellular use, the LTE setup.
Pairing and management use Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness app. General navigation was responsive in Tech Advisor’s testing, with occasional one- to two-second pauses when opening apps. Wareable’s reports of unresponsive apps and occasional lockups show why the presence of Wear OS should not be confused with flawless day-to-day polish. Xiaomi’s global page also flags regional restrictions for services such as Wallet and Assistant.

Compatibility: Android only
The Watch 2 Pro requires an Android phone running Android 8.0 or newer with Google Mobile Services version 21.30.12 or newer. It does not support Android Go or iOS, and Xiaomi requires Mi Fitness for pairing. These requirements are listed on the product page and in Xiaomi’s support FAQ.
This is not an Apple Watch alternative for iPhone owners. It is an Android-only Wear OS watch.
For firmware updates, Xiaomi’s documented path is Settings > System > Firmware update on the watch. Keep it at least 50% charged, near and connected to the phone, with internet access; Xiaomi recommends Wi-Fi to avoid mobile-data use. LTE: useful only if your carrier supports it
The Bluetooth edition depends mainly on its paired phone, Wi-Fi or content downloaded in advance. The LTE edition adds eSIM capability and can support calls and messages when the phone is away, but the watch alone does not guarantee standalone service. You need an eligible Android phone for setup, a qualifying plan, and a carrier arrangement that supports the exact watch model and region. Depending on the carrier, this may use number sharing or a separate number.

Xiaomi says eSIM connectivity is disabled while the watch is connected to the phone over Bluetooth to conserve power. Its guidance on activation and calls is in the eSIM FAQ and phone-free calling FAQ. Confirm the exact model, network bands, eSIM method and plan with the carrier before buying. An LTE label does not establish universal US or international carrier support, and importing adds warranty and return risks.
Tech Advisor’s launch-period UK review reported a separate contract and limited support at that time, naming Vodafone or O2. That is historical UK evidence, not a current carrier list for the UK or any other market. LTE also consumes more power when used away from the phone.
Fitness, GPS and health tracking
The hardware includes dual-band L1 and L5 GNSS and support for GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS. Xiaomi advertises more than 150 sports modes; its current comparison section also shows 161, so the stated count can vary with software or regional presentation. Sensors include heart rate, blood oxygen, barometer, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light and bioelectrical impedance. The feature list also covers sleep and stress tracking, breathing-related metrics and body-composition estimates.
Dual-band GPS is promising hardware, not proof of accurate tracks in every setting. The available review evidence does not establish a universal result for cold-start time, interval-pace stability, urban-canyon accuracy or distance drift. For a serious runner, those real-world details and workout controls matter more than the GNSS list. Wareable also found workout access unintuitive, which is a practical drawback when starting or managing an activity on the move.
For a better chance of a clean outdoor GPS start, Xiaomi’s manual recommends beginning in an open area and waiting for positioning to succeed before starting exercise. Keep the watch face toward the sky during a cold start. A-GPS data is synchronized through the phone and can expire after seven days without synchronization, in which case positioning may need to be reacquired. These directions are in the user manual.
Heart-rate, blood-oxygen, sleep and body-composition readings are wellness estimates, not clinical assessments. Xiaomi says the product is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, prevent or cure disease. Do not use its body-fat or other body-composition estimates as medical-grade measurements.

5ATM water resistance: what it does and does not mean
Xiaomi rates the watch at 5ATM. The rating supports pool swimming, shallow-water activity and ordinary splashes, but it does not make the watch suitable for diving, saunas, hot showers or high-pressure water. Water resistance can decline over time and is not a guarantee against every kind of water damage. See Xiaomi’s water-resistance notes before choosing activities.
Battery life and charging
Xiaomi lists a 495mAh battery and claims up to 65 hours for the Bluetooth model or up to 55 hours for LTE. These are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed ownership results: Xiaomi says actual life varies with settings, operation, habits and environment. The watch charges magnetically. Tech Advisor said it could not consistently get two full days with health tracking enabled and the always-on display off, and observed substantial standby drain. The same reviewer measured charging from 0 to about 60% in 15 minutes and a full charge in roughly 32 minutes; those are that review’s results, not a guaranteed charge time for every unit. Wareable likewise treated endurance as a meaningful weakness.
Do not plan around the maximum-hours figure if you expect to use the watch actively. Always-on display, LTE, GPS workouts, streamed music, frequent notifications and overnight tracking can all shorten runtime. For your own likely use, distinguish these scenarios rather than treating one battery number as universal:
- Always-on display off, Bluetooth connected and sleep tracking enabled.
- Always-on display on during the day.
- A continuous GPS workout, with and without phone connection.
- LTE active while away from the phone.
- Music streaming to Bluetooth earbuds versus offline playback.
- Overnight wear and the following day’s remaining charge.
- Standby over several hours or a full day without active use.
The available independent results cover a reviewer’s use, not all of these scenarios as a controlled set. If daily charging is a deal-breaker, compare an alternative built around longer endurance rather than assuming the advertised maximum will match your settings.

The Watch 2 Pro uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 wearable platform, 2GB RAM and 32GB eMMC storage. Xiaomi also lists Bluetooth 5.2, 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, NFC, a speaker and microphone. Tech Advisor found navigation generally smooth and responsive, with occasional one- to two-second delays opening apps; its comparison was favorable to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 generation, a launch-era comparison rather than a claim about the current Samsung model. Price, availability and buying safely
The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro launched in 2023, so launch pricing should not be mistaken for its current price in 2026. Tech Advisor listed UK launch prices of £239.99 for Bluetooth and £289.99 for LTE. Wareable reported roughly £230 / $280 for Bluetooth and £280 / $340 for LTE in its review period. Those are historical review-period figures, not current offers or reliable estimates of what a new, used or imported unit should cost today.
The inspected sources do not establish a current US retail price or confirm official US availability. Earlier reviews said it was not officially sold in the US at their publication time; that historical statement should not be treated as a live regional-store status. Check Xiaomi’s store in your country and the seller’s exact listing before deciding whether the available price is worthwhile.
Before ordering, verify the following for the precise regional model:
- Whether it is officially sold in your country and whether the seller is authorized.
- Bluetooth or LTE edition, exact model and supported network bands.
- Local Google Wallet and Assistant availability, plus carrier eSIM support if buying LTE.
- Warranty coverage, return terms, shipping and possible import charges.
- Included strap, charger and condition if the watch is older stock or pre-owned.
- Whether the discount is compelling against current-generation alternatives available with local support.
No official long-term software-support period is established in the cited material. Treat continued update duration as uncertain rather than assuming a specific number of years.

Who should buy the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro?
- Buy it if you use Android and want Wear OS apps, Google services where supported, a large stainless-steel watch, generous storage and dual-band GNSS. The LTE version is worth considering only after confirming carrier compatibility and plan terms.
- Consider an alternative if all-day comfort, small sizing, longer battery life, a more polished Wear OS experience or dedicated endurance-training tools matter more than the Pro’s materials and app access.
- Avoid it if you use an iPhone, require confirmed carrier service for an imported LTE model, or need a known long-term update commitment.
Its lasting significance is that Xiaomi paired premium smartwatch hardware with the app ecosystem earlier models lacked. Whether that makes this particular older-generation watch a smart purchase depends on fit, endurance and local support—not just the Wear OS badge.
