Verdict: The Xiaomi Watch 5 is a genuine premium Wear OS 6 smartwatch with excellent endurance, sapphire glass, a bright 1.54-inch display and Google apps. Xiaomi’s internal rating is up to six days in Smart mode, while Tech Advisor reported roughly three to four days with intensive use and nearly a week with lighter use. That battery advantage is compelling.
The compromises are equally clear: there is only a large 47mm case, Xiaomi’s interface is less polished than the best Google or Samsung implementations, and features such as Wallet, ECG, offline maps and Xiaomi ecosystem controls vary by region or phone. Buy it if you want a large, long-lasting Android watch. Skip it if you use an iPhone, need LTE independence, have a small wrist or demand the most mature health and software ecosystem.
What is the Xiaomi Watch 5?
The Watch 5 is Xiaomi’s flagship smartwatch and, unlike the Redmi Watch 5, runs Google’s full Wear OS platform. The global model uses Wear OS 6, Google Play, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Wallet and Gemini. It launched internationally around MWC 2026 and went on sale in at least some markets in March 2026. Regional software and features are not guaranteed to be identical; Xiaomi says availability varies by country. See the Xiaomi global product page before buying.
Wear OS supplies the Google foundation, but Xiaomi still controls the interface, health platform, watch faces, update delivery and hardware integrations. Therefore, “Wear OS 6” does not mean an identical experience to a Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch.

Design and comfort
The stainless-steel case, sapphire glass and solid controls give the Watch 5 a premium materials list. It has two physical controls, including a rotating crown-style button, and comes in Juniper Green or Black with a fluororubber strap in the reviewed configuration. The case is rated 5ATM for water resistance.
Its limitation is size. There is no smaller option: the watch is 47mm wide and about 12.3mm thick before the strap is counted. On a small wrist it can dominate visually, catch on shirt cuffs and feel intrusive during sleep. The lugs and strap also make it appear larger than the headline dimensions. It should be comfortable for most running, strength-training and swimming sessions when fitted securely, but overnight comfort is much more dependent on wrist size and strap adjustment.
Tech Advisor considered the construction well made but the appearance fairly ordinary. The “premium” impression comes more from steel, sapphire and the substantial build than from distinctive industrial design.
Display and controls
The 1.54-inch AMOLED is sharp at 480 × 480 and responsive at the advertised 60Hz. Tech Advisor found it bright enough in difficult lighting and reported strong, though somewhat oversaturated, colors. Xiaomi’s 1,500-nit number is a peak or high-brightness figure rather than a promise of sustained full-screen brightness. The screen has an approximately 2.6mm bezel and does not reach completely to the case edge.
Sapphire glass resists scratches better than ordinary cover glass; it is not crack-proof. Xiaomi also notes that actual refresh behavior can vary by interface. Tech Advisor saw no scratches during its review period, but that is not a long-term durability guarantee.
EMG gesture controls
The Watch 5 combines EMG, PPG and IMU sensors for gestures. Double-pinch can hang up a call or snooze an alarm; double-rub can dismiss or silence an alarm. Other actions include snapping fingers, shaking the wrist twice and rotating the wrist twice.

- ADVANCED HEALTH TRACKING – More than a basic activity tracker. 24/7 heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress monitoring with 4-LED + 4-PD sensors and self-developed algorithm 2.0. Tracks sleep stages in detail*—designed for daily wellness awareness, not a medical device.
- ACCURATE PEDOMETER FOR WALKING STEPS AND MILES – Dual-frequency five-system GNSS (GPS/Galileo/GLONASS/BeiDou/QZSS) delivers 30% faster positioning and 33% better accuracy vs. previous gen. Track steps, distance, and routes without your phone—ideal for daily walks, hiking, and outdoor runs.
- ULTRA-LONG BATTERY LIFE – 815mAh silicon-anode battery: up to 21 days light use, 14 days typical, 9 days AOD. Up to 14 days even with eSIM independent calling—charge less, adventure more.
- VERSATILE SPORTS WATCH WITH 150+ MODES – From cycling (phone-as-cyclocomputer, power meter support) to running (form metrics: vertical oscillation, ground contact time), skiing (fall detection), and cheer-gesture capture. A true all-rounder for fitness enthusiasts.
- PREMIUM STAINLESS STEEL & BRIGHT AMOLED – 316L stainless steel case, ~46g, 10.99mm thin. 1.48" AMOLED up to 2500 nits (1500 nits HBM) for clear reading under direct sun, with wet-hand touch prevention. 5ATM water resistant for swimming.
These controls are distinctive but not automatically useful. Loose straps, sleeves, gloves and movement can affect recognition, and users must remember which gesture triggers which action. Xiaomi says some custom gestures require a phone running HyperOS 3, and gestures can be disabled during certain sleep, Do Not Disturb or always-on-display states. Treat them as convenient shortcuts rather than a reason alone to buy.
Wear OS 6 and Google integration
Setup runs through Mi Fitness, after which the global watch provides Play Store access and Google applications. Maps, Calendar, Wallet and Gemini make it a real Google smartwatch rather than a Xiaomi fitness watch with limited app support. NFC payments still depend on your country, bank, Google account and device configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe software is fast enough for normal use. Tech Advisor described performance as smooth, but found the overall experience mixed. Xiaomi’s widgets and quick settings look distinctly different from stock Wear OS, while Google’s presence is most obvious in the app list and individual Google apps. Notifications, message replies, app installation and watch-face discovery are functional, though the watch-face selection was considered weaker than leading rivals.
Gemini can be useful for voice interaction, but online features require the appropriate account, connection and regional support. Xiaomi’s product page should be treated as the authority for local compatibility. Long-term update reliability and delivery timing are not established by the available coverage, so buyers who keep watches for many years should factor in that uncertainty.
Health and fitness tracking
Xiaomi advertises heart-rate, blood-oxygen, stress, sleep, women’s-health and one-tap health assessment features, high- and low-heart-rate alerts, more than 150 sports modes and Health Connect sharing. TechRadar also reported ECG analysis, but ECG availability is region-dependent and should be confirmed for the exact market.
- Wellness: the watch offers estimates for heart rate, SpO2, stress and sleep; the available review evidence does not establish clinical accuracy.
- Workouts: the feature list is broad, but independent comparative heart-rate testing across sports is limited.
- Data: Mi Fitness manages Xiaomi’s health experience, while Health Connect can share supported data with compatible Android services.
- Phone dependence: core Wear OS functions work with compatible Android phones, but some health and ecosystem features may require newer software or Xiaomi hardware.
Xiaomi states that the device is not intended to diagnose, prevent or cure disease. Do not use its ECG, SpO2, sleep or “health assessment” readings as a medical diagnosis.

GPS and outdoor navigation
Dual-frequency L1+L5 GNSS and five satellite systems are promising hardware, but dual-band support alone does not prove superior track accuracy. The watch supports offline color vector maps, route navigation, track-back and route-deviation alerts. Offline maps must be downloaded through Mi Fitness first.
With maps and a route prepared, navigation can be useful away from a phone, subject to regional availability. Lock time, performance around tall buildings or trees, map storage requirements and battery impact vary with conditions; the available coverage does not provide a detailed independent GPS comparison. Google Maps and Xiaomi’s offline navigation should not be assumed to offer identical turn-by-turn guidance.
Battery life and charging
Battery life is the Watch 5’s strongest argument. Xiaomi rates it for up to six days in Smart mode, four days with always-on display enabled and up to 18 days in power-saving mode. The six-day figure comes from Xiaomi’s internal test involving notifications, health monitoring, some Bluetooth calls, music, GNSS exercise, screen activations and NFC payments. Power-saving mode necessarily reduces functionality.
Tech Advisor obtained around three to four days with intensive use and close to a week with lighter use. A full charge from empty took slightly more than an hour in that review. These real-world figures are more useful than the headline maximum, especially if you track sleep and exercise daily.
Always-on display, frequent GPS workouts, calls, music, Wi-Fi, high notification volume, continuous SpO2, online assistants, poor Bluetooth conditions and repeated screen wake-ups all reduce endurance. Charging uses a proprietary cradle, so a lost or spare charger cannot be replaced with a generic USB puck.

The watch includes a microphone, speaker, Bluetooth calling, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi. Tech Advisor found the speaker adequate but muffled for calls and recordings. Xiaomi states that voice calls from third-party apps are currently unsupported, and some functions require a Bluetooth connection to the phone.

The reviewed material does not establish a global LTE or eSIM model. Do not assume standalone cellular calling, phone-free messaging, streaming or emergency communication without confirming the exact regional SKU. The Watch 5 is best treated as a Bluetooth-connected Android watch unless local specifications say otherwise.
Xiaomi ecosystem features
Xiaomi Smart Hub and HyperConnect can add remote camera control with live preview, Xiaomi-device controls and additional gesture actions. These are most valuable to Xiaomi-phone and Xiaomi-smart-home owners.

- Any compatible Android phone: Wear OS, Google apps and standard watch functions are the core experience.
- Xiaomi hardware: richer Smart Hub, camera and device-control features.
- Software requirements: some functions require HyperOS 3, current Mi Fitness, Xiaomi Home 10.4 or newer, and compatible devices connected to the integrated hub.
- iPhone: not supported according to Xiaomi’s product information.
Price, availability and regional risk
| Market | Evidence | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| UK | £269.99 | Price shown by Tech Advisor and Which?; check current stock. |
| Europe | From about €300 | Android Authority report; country-specific pricing may differ. |
| United States | Not established | Do not assume current official price, warranty or local availability. |
Importing a China-region model is risky. Software, Google services, Wallet, ECG, maps, NFC, warranty and returns can differ from the global Wear OS version. Buy through an official local channel where possible and verify the model region before paying.
How it compares with alternatives
Google Pixel Watch
A Pixel Watch is the more natural choice for Google-first software and a compact form-factor strategy. Xiaomi counters with a larger display, substantially longer endurance and potentially lower pricing in markets where it is officially sold. See current models at the Google Store.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
Galaxy Watch models offer broad retail availability, a mature Samsung ecosystem and established health features. Xiaomi’s differentiators are battery life, the large screen and Xiaomi integrations. Some advanced Samsung functions are also more restricted outside Samsung phones. See Samsung’s Galaxy Watch page.
OnePlus Watch
OnePlus is another Wear OS competitor that emphasizes endurance. Compare the current model’s size, sensors, software version, price and local support rather than assuming either watch wins every category. See OnePlus for current availability.

Who should buy the Xiaomi Watch 5?
- Android users who want Google apps without nightly charging.
- People who prefer a large watch and value sapphire glass and steel.
- Xiaomi-phone or Xiaomi-smart-home owners who can use Smart Hub features.
- Buyers in officially supported markets where the price undercuts comparable Wear OS models.
Who should avoid it?
- iPhone owners.
- People with small wrists or a strong preference for compact watches.
- Anyone who requires LTE/eSIM and reliable phone-free communication.
- Buyers prioritizing the most polished Google or Samsung interface.
- Users who need a clearly documented local warranty, payment support or health-feature availability.
- Anyone unwilling to use a proprietary charger or Mi Fitness.
The Bottom Line
The Xiaomi Watch 5 is best understood as an endurance-focused premium Android watch: fast enough, well equipped and materially impressive, but not the most refined Wear OS experience. Its realistic three-to-four-day heavy-use endurance, large 47mm case and regional software caveats should determine whether it belongs on your wrist.
