The Zenith DEFY Chronograph USM is a 2025 collaboration that turns the angular design of Zenith’s 1969 DEFY into a chronograph, rather than reproducing an old DEFY chronograph. It pairs a 37.3 mm steel case and El Primero 400 automatic movement with four USM-inspired dial colors, each limited to 60 pieces according to USM.
What is the Zenith DEFY Chronograph USM?
Zenith and USM Modular Furniture announced the capsule collection on 4 September 2025. It brings together the design language of the USM Haller modular furniture system, introduced in 1965, and Zenith’s 1969 DEFY. Zenith describes the watch as “imagined heritage”: a contemporary answer to what the angular DEFY might have looked like with the El Primero chronograph.
That distinction matters: Zenith says the original DEFY was never produced as a chronograph. The USM edition reimagines the earlier watch as one; it is not a reissue of a historical DEFY chronograph reference. Zenith’s announcement explains the concept and the collaboration’s 1960s references.

What comes with the watch?
The collaboration includes a custom-designed USM Haller timepiece chest. USM says buyers can obtain the watch individually or as a set, and that each option includes the chest. “Individual” therefore does not mean a watch-only option without the chest, based on the wording on USM’s page.
