Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 launched on February 11, 2025, at a U.S. starting price of $249.99. It is a finished, commercially available second-generation sports earbud—not a rumor or prototype. The redesign adds active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ, wireless charging and workout heart-rate monitoring while retaining the secure earhook fit. As of August 18, 2026, the standard model remains listed by Beats; the Nike version released in March 2026 is a later special edition.
When did Powerbeats Pro 2 launch?
Beats introduced Powerbeats Pro 2 on February 11, 2025, in a full product announcement that included U.S. pricing and retail availability. The date marks the commercial launch, not an early leak, regulatory filing or promise of a future device. Beats’ launch announcement is available at Business Wire.
A Nike-branded version announced on March 17, 2026, and sold globally from March 20, 2026, is a styling collaboration built on the same Powerbeats Pro 2 platform. It does not represent a new hardware generation; details are in Nike’s announcement.
How much did Powerbeats Pro 2 cost?
The U.S. launch and original list price was $249.99. Beats’ U.S. product pages continued to show an original price of $249.99 when checked on August 18, 2026: Hyper Purple and Electric Orange. That is an official list-price reference, not a guarantee that every retailer or color costs the same today. Temporary retailer discounts can change without notice.

- 45 HOURS. ENOUGH FOR THE WHOLE WEEK: Powered by the Apple H2 chip, Powerbeats Pro 2 delivers up to 45 hours of total listening time with the charging case — the first wireless Qi-charging case from Beats. Running low? Fast Fuel means a 5-minute charge gives you 1.5 hours of playback.
- WORKS SEAMLESSLY WITH APPLE AND ANDROID: One-touch pairing, automatic device switching, and hands-free Siri on Apple. Full feature access including Heart Rate Monitoring, customizable controls, and battery widgets on Android via the Beats app for Android.
What changed from the first Powerbeats Pro?
The second generation keeps the earhook concept but adds features that move it closer to a premium all-purpose wireless earbud.
A redesigned workout fit
The hooks are reshaped for stability during running, lifting and other high-impact movement. Five ear-tip sizes—extra-small, small, medium, large and extra-large—are included. Each earbud weighs approximately 8.7 grams; the case is approximately 69 grams, for a listed total of about 77.7 grams. Hooked earbuds can stay put better than stem-style designs, but the pressure around the ear is not comfortable for everyone and can conflict with some glasses.
Noise control and sound
Powerbeats Pro 2 adds active noise cancellation, Transparency mode and Adaptive EQ. Compatible Apple devices also support Personalized Spatial Audio. Beats lists three microphones per earbud and updated call processing, including Voice Isolation. The Apple H2 chip is part of the redesign, but it does not make these earbuds an AirPods Pro 2 clone: controls, fit, software features and intended use remain different.

A smaller, wirelessly chargeable case
Beats says the new case is 33% smaller than the first-generation case and is the first Powerbeats Pro case to support wireless charging. It charges through USB-C or a Qi-compatible charger.

These are maximum manufacturer figures. Volume, calls, temperature, device settings and whether ANC or Transparency is active can reduce runtime. The 45-hour number includes recharging the earbuds from the case; it is not 45 hours of continuous listening from the earbuds alone. Full specifications are on Beats’ product page.
How the heart-rate monitor works
Optical sensors in the earbuds provide heart-rate data during a workout. Beats lists support for Apple Fitness and Fitness+, Nike Run Club, Peloton, Runna, Ladder, Slopes, ASICS Runkeeper and other compatible apps, as well as selected fitness equipment with Bluetooth connectivity. Beats reports more than 1,500 hours of testing with nearly 1,000 athletes; that is a manufacturer-reported testing claim, not independent medical validation. See Beats’ heart-rate-monitoring guide for the current compatibility list.

iPhone and Apple workflows
On supported Apple workflows, workout sessions can start and end automatically. Beats’ current specifications state that workout heart-rate monitoring in the Fitness app requires an iPhone with iOS 26, an iPad with iPadOS 26 or an Apple TV with tvOS 26, paired with an iPhone or Apple Watch. Older operating systems may not offer the same behavior.
Android workflows
Android users must start a heart-rate session manually. The Beats app is required for the added controls, battery information, heart-rate access and device-location features; ordinary Bluetooth audio does not guarantee heart-rate support in every app or machine.

What the feature does not mean
- It is workout feedback, not a medical diagnostic or medical-grade monitor.
- It does not create all-day health records like a smartwatch.
- It is optional and can be disabled.
- App, equipment and operating-system support determine whether data appears.
Improving inconsistent readings
Fit is a performance variable. Try another ear-tip size, rotate each earbud fully into the hook position and run the iOS Ear Tip Fit Test or Android Eartip Fit Test. Clean sweat, debris or earwax from the sensor area and confirm that the app or fitness equipment supports the feature. Movement and a poor seal can affect optical readings. Beats’ support guidance is at the Powerbeats Pro 2 support hub.

Battery life and charging in practice
With noise-control features off, Beats rates the earbuds for up to 10 hours and the complete system for up to 45 hours. With ANC or Transparency enabled, the figures fall to up to eight hours per charge and 36 hours including the case. Fast Fuel provides up to 1.5 hours after a five-minute charge under Beats’ stated test conditions. Calls, high volume and environmental conditions can produce lower results. The case supports both USB-C and Qi wireless charging.

- Powerbeats Pro 2 is the most advanced headphone we’ve ever made, with secure-fit earhooks that stay locked in as you train. With over 1,500 hours of athlete testing to help ensure a secure, comfortable fit for any ear shape and intensity level.
- For absolute workout focus, we added the best-performing Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) we’ve ever developed, plus Transparency mode to let you hear the world around you, ensuring the best listening experience wherever you train.
- Heart Rate Monitoring sensors pulse over 100 times per second to measure your pulse in real time. And Powerbeats Pro 2 is sweat and water resistant with an IPX4 rating, so they’re tough enough to handle training in rain, snow and heat.
- Powered by the Apple H2 chip for extraordinary efficiency, Powerbeats Pro 2 delivers up to 45 hours of battery life with the charging case. The case is 33% smaller than its predecessor and is our first ever to feature wireless Qi charging.
- Compatible with Apple (one-touch pairing, automatic switching, Audio Sharing, hands-free Siri, Find My) and Android (the Beats App unlocks one-touch pairing, Heart Rate Monitoring, customizable controls, battery status widgets, and Locate My Beats).
Durability and water-resistance limits
The earbuds are rated IPX4 for sweat and water resistance. IPX4 is not a swimming or submersion rating. The charging case has no sweat- or water-resistance rating, so keep it out of rain, showers and pool areas. Dry the earbuds before putting them back in the case. This distinction is especially important for runners who carry the case outdoors.
Who should buy them?
- Runners, cyclists, gym users and other athletes who need hooks that resist movement.
- People whose standard earbuds regularly loosen or fall out.
- Apple Fitness users who want workout heart-rate data without relying on a chest strap every session.
- Listeners who want ANC and Transparency but prioritize battery life and stability over a tiny case.
- Android users willing to install the Beats app and accept fewer ecosystem conveniences.
Who should skip them?
- Swimmers or anyone needing a water-resistant charging case.
- Users who dislike earhooks, wear glasses that interfere with them or want the smallest possible earbuds.
- Buyers expecting medical-grade heart-rate monitoring or a smartwatch replacement.
- Android users seeking Apple-style automatic switching and Siri integration.
- Shoppers whose priority is the strongest possible ANC rather than a secure sports fit.
Alternatives by use case
| If your priority is… | Consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Compact Apple-centric listening | AirPods Pro | A stem-style design and broader AirPods ecosystem may suit users who do not need earhooks. |
| Maximum awareness outdoors | Open-ear or bone-conduction sports headphones | They leave more of the ear open to surrounding sound, with different trade-offs in bass and isolation. |
| No earhooks | Conventional premium true-wireless earbuds | A smaller, less conspicuous fit may be preferable for everyday listening. |
| Training-data consistency | A chest strap or sports watch | A dedicated sensor may better match a training setup that does not depend on earbud fit or app support. |
Verdict
Powerbeats Pro 2 is a genuine February 2025 release, not a lingering rumor. Its proposition is specific: secure earhooks, ANC and Transparency, long claimed battery life, wireless charging and optional workout heart-rate feedback in one sports-focused design. The $249.99 list price makes sense for athletes who need that stability and Apple integration; buyers who dislike hooks, need swimming protection or expect smartwatch-grade health tracking should choose a different category.
