The time-only watches are smaller and slimmer, while the chronographs add a single crown-integrated pusher and a purpose-built hand-wound movement. Here are the reported differences in cases, dials, movements, editions and launch prices.
What is in the 2024 Cartier Privé Tortue release?
The five references split between two functions: three two-hand Hours/Minutes watches and two monopusher chronographs. Cartier’s Tortue design dates to 1912, according to Fratello; that design milestone is distinct from the chronograph’s later history. Fratello’s 2024 introduction and GMT India’s Watches and Wonders 2024 coverage describe the return of the Tortue in Cartier Privé.
Cartier Tortue Hours/Minutes: three two-hand editions
The Hours/Minutes models share a reported case size of 41.4 mm long, 32.9 mm wide and 7.2 mm thick. Fratello reports a hand-wound Cartier calibre 430 MC, adapted to the case, with a 36-hour power reserve and a frequency of 21,600 beats per hour.
| Reference type | Case and dial | Edition size reported in 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow gold | 18K yellow-gold case; grained gold dial with black printed markings | 200 pieces |
| Platinum | Platinum case; opaline dial with applied rhodium-plated Roman numerals | 200 pieces |
| Diamond-set platinum | Diamond-set platinum case; opaline dial with applied rhodium-plated Roman numerals | 50 pieces |
Fratello reports the dimensions, dial details, movement specifications and edition counts for these models in its 2024 coverage. The cited report does not establish current stock or current prices.

How does a monopusher chronograph work?
“Monopoussoir” means one pusher operates the chronograph’s start, stop and reset functions. On this Tortue, the pusher is integrated into the crown, where one button controls those actions. A sapphire window in the caseback shows the movement. GMT India describes the crown-integrated control, while Fratello also details the watch.
Calibre 1928 MC: a new movement, not the old CPCP calibre
Monochrome reports that the chronograph uses hand-wound calibre 1928 MC, with a column wheel and horizontal clutch. The movement is 4.3 mm thick, runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a reported 44-hour power reserve. Its mainplate follows the lines of the case. Monochrome describes it as a proprietary movement made for Cartier by an undisclosed external partner, so it should not be described as in-house.

This 2024 movement is distinct from the calibre 045MC used in the earlier CPCP Tortue Monopoussoir. Monochrome associates that earlier calibre with Techniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA) and describes the new watch as using a different purpose-built calibre. Monochrome’s movement and historical account notes that published accounts differ on whether the first Tortue chronograph appeared in 1926 or 1928; 1928 is Cartier’s claimed date. Fratello likewise gives 1928 for its debut and notes the CPCP production period from 1998 to 2008. The Tortue design’s 1912 origin refers to the case design, not the chronograph.
How the two functions compare
| Hours/Minutes | Monopoussoir Chronograph | |
|---|---|---|
| Case dimensions | 41.4 × 32.9 × 7.2 mm, reported by Fratello in 2024 | 43.7 × 34.8 × 10.2 mm, reported by Monochrome in 2024 |
| Movement | Hand-wound calibre 430 MC | Hand-wound calibre 1928 MC; column wheel and horizontal clutch |
| Reported reserve | 36 hours, Fratello (2024) | 44 hours, Monochrome (2024) |
| Reported editions | 200 pieces each for yellow gold and standard platinum; 50 for diamond-set platinum, Fratello (2024) | 200 pieces each for yellow gold and platinum, Monochrome (2024) |
| Chronograph control | Not applicable | Single pusher integrated into the crown |
The function is the clearest dividing line: Hours/Minutes is the slimmer two-hand choice; the chronograph adds timing functions and a thicker case. The listed specifications come from 2024 industry coverage, not independent testing.
