D Watch 2 Smartwatch Review: What This 2015 Phone Watch Can—and Can’t—Do in 2026

The D Watch 2 offered impressive phone-watch features for its 2015 price, but uncertain cellular bands, abandoned software and aging batteries make it a poor modern smartwatch purchase except as a cheap curiosity.

Verdict: The D Watch 2 was an unusually feature-packed, low-cost phone watch for 2015. Its reported SIM calling, Bluetooth functions and basic activity tools were appealing at roughly US$39 then. In 2026, however, it is best treated as a discontinued curiosity or restoration project. Cellular bands, carrier support, companion software and battery condition are all uncertain, so it is not a dependable alternative to a current smartwatch or fitness tracker.

What is the D Watch 2?

The name most commonly refers to a generic China-made smartwatch/phone watch covered by TheTechHacker in July 2015 and by GizChina. It used a square, Apple Watch-inspired case, a SIM slot and a small proprietary software platform rather than Wear OS, watchOS or an app store.

Identification matters because “D Watch 2” is not a unique model name. A D-JIX D-Watch 2 is an MP3/media player, not necessarily this phone watch (D-JIX manual). The HUAWEI WATCH D2 is a much newer blood-pressure-focused product (Huawei coverage). “D-Watch 2” also appears in unrelated maritime-course documents (2017 document; 2018 document).

How to identify the phone-watch version

  • Square display measuring about 1.54 inches, with a reported 240 × 240 resolution.
  • A SIM-card slot and a single physical power/home control.
  • Charging through a USB connection integrated into the watch body or side.
  • Rear markings that say D Watch 2 rather than D-JIX or Huawei.
  • Marketing that describes standalone calls, not just music playback.

Listings using copied Apple Watch images or omitting the rear label should be considered high risk. The surviving coverage does not establish a consistent manufacturer, model number or official support channel.

Design and reported hardware

The 2015 review reports a 1.54-inch LCD, 240 × 240 pixels, a stainless-steel case, a leather strap and a brushed side panel. For a low-cost wearable, the reviewer considered the construction and appearance relatively good. It reportedly used an MT6260 chipset with 128 MB of RAM and 64 MB of internal memory.

Reported specification Qualification
Display 1.54-inch LCD, 240 × 240 pixels; reported by 2015 coverage
Processor and memory MT6260, 128 MB RAM and 64 MB storage; reported by TheTechHacker
Cellular Micro-SIM support is reported; bands, network generation and VoLTE are not documented
Battery 320 mAh; original review claimed nearly seven days, not a standardized test
Software Closed proprietary system; no evidence of Wear OS, watchOS, Google Play or a current app ecosystem

There is no reliable evidence of GPS, Wi-Fi, a water-resistance rating, contactless-payment hardware or a replaceable battery. Do not infer those features from a seller’s generic specifications.

What it could do in its original period

Calls, messages and standalone operation

With a compatible SIM, the watch was advertised as able to make calls directly, send messages and access call logs. It could also handle calls through Bluetooth when paired with a phone. That creates three distinct modes:

  1. Watch-only: timekeeping and local functions without a phone or active network.
  2. Bluetooth companion: phone calls, selected notifications, camera control and other phone-linked features.
  3. Standalone phone watch: SIM-based calls and messages, provided the radio and carrier still match.

The review describes Android-focused notifications for messages and services including WeChat, Twitter and Facebook. This is notification mirroring, not full application support.

Fitness and sleep features

Reported wellness tools include a pedometer, step count, distance and speed estimates, calorie estimates, sleep monitoring and a sedentary reminder. These are convenience estimates. No validation method, error rate or clinical comparison was supplied, so they should not be used for medical decisions or precise training.

Remote controls and NFC

The feature list includes a smartphone camera shutter, music control or playback, video playback, anti-loss functions and NFC-related pairing or identification. The original review says remotely captured photos could be saved on the watch, but that behavior should not be assumed with current phones. NFC here is not evidence of Apple Pay, Google Wallet or bank-token support.

Battery life and aging hardware

The 2015 review reports a 320 mAh battery and claims nearly seven days of use. That was an editorial observation with an unspecified usage pattern, not a standardized endurance test. A watch sold today may have a heavily degraded lithium-ion cell; cellular registration, weak signal, Bluetooth reconnects, screen brightness and notifications can shorten runtime further.

  • Ask for a photo showing the watch charging and holding power.
  • Check for swelling, heat, leakage or a lifting display.
  • Do not charge or open a physically damaged battery.
  • Assume replacement cells and case-compatible chargers may be difficult to source.

Compatibility in 2026: the decisive problem

A SIM slot does not mean the watch will work on a current network. Available documentation does not establish its GSM bands, 2G/3G support, VoLTE capability, carrier certification, regional variants or emergency-call behavior. Buyers in the United States should assume cellular calling may fail unless they independently verify the radio technology and carrier support. Legacy-network shutdowns make this especially important.

Bluetooth support is equally uncertain. The surviving coverage does not state the required Android or iOS versions, Bluetooth profiles, companion-app name or pairing procedure. Notification mirroring may depend on an abandoned Android application and permissions that current operating systems no longer provide. There is no evidence of current firmware, security updates, an official download source, warranty service or a maintained privacy policy.

If it powers on but will not pair

  1. Charge it fully and remove old Bluetooth pairings from both devices.
  2. Factory-reset the watch if its settings include a reset option.
  3. Test basic Bluetooth calling separately from notification mirroring.
  4. Use software only from a reputable, verifiable source; do not sideload an unknown APK onto a primary phone.
  5. Stop if the required companion app is unavailable or requests excessive access.

If the SIM does not work

  • The carrier may have retired the required 2G or 3G network.
  • The SIM may use an unsupported size, have a PIN enabled or be carrier-locked.
  • The watch may lack the required frequency bands or VoLTE.
  • Repeated registration attempts can cause rapid battery drain.

Privacy, accuracy and safety

Because the manufacturer and software history are unclear, data handling is also unclear. Treat any companion app as untrusted until its source, permissions and privacy documentation can be verified. Do not use the watch for medical monitoring, emergency communications, secure payments or sensitive accounts.

Step and sleep numbers can look plausible while still being inaccurate. The original review supplies no validation evidence. Use them, at most, as rough trends.

Used-buying checklist

  • Confirm the exact watch with photos of the front, rear label, settings screen and SIM slot.
  • Make sure the listing is not for a D-JIX media player, Huawei WATCH D2 or another relabeled clone.
  • Require the original charger or a clearly compatible replacement.
  • Ask whether the touchscreen works across its entire surface and whether the battery holds a charge.
  • Check for an IMEI or other network identifier and verify the radio technology with the intended carrier.
  • Test a call, message and Bluetooth pairing before the return period ends.
  • Prefer a seller offering returns; avoid listings that promise universal Android, iPhone or U.S. compatibility without evidence.

Who should buy it—and who should not?

A reasonable purchase only when

  • The price is negligible and the goal is nostalgia, tinkering or offline experimentation.
  • The exact variant is confirmed and cellular service is nonessential.
  • The buyer accepts that the companion app may no longer exist.
  • Battery condition and returns are covered by the seller.

Choose something else when you need

  • Reliable U.S. cellular or emergency calling.
  • Accurate fitness, GPS, medical measurements or swimming protection.
  • Secure payments, current notifications or a supported app ecosystem.
  • Long-term security updates, replacement parts or dependable iPhone integration.

Better modern categories

Need More suitable category Why
Steps, sleep and long battery life Current fitness tracker Modern sensors, phone compatibility and ongoing software support
Calls and notifications near a phone Bluetooth smartwatch Better integrations and maintained apps
Independent calls and messages LTE smartwatch Designed for current carrier plans and supported radios
Validated health measurements Medical-oriented wearable Purpose-built hardware and appropriate clinical claims
Only reliable timekeeping Digital or quartz watch No network, app or battery-management dependency

Final assessment

As a 2015 gadget, the D Watch 2 was impressive for combining a SIM phone, Bluetooth controls, notifications and basic wellness tools in an inexpensive package. As a 2026 purchase, its value is almost entirely situational. Buy only when the cost is very low, the exact model is verified and you are comfortable with uncertain networks, unsupported software and an aged battery. For dependable daily use, a current tracker, smartwatch or LTE model is the safer choice.
