Facer’s Wear OS 6 overhaul makes watch-face choice feel like browsing a catalog rather than navigating a settings screen. It adds Google’s Watch Face Format, direct phone-to-watch syncing, hundreds of thousands of free and premium designs (Facer’s figure), licensed franchises, power-impact labels and a social discovery layer called Looks. The catch is that Wear OS 6 is a platform migration: some older faces, purchases, complications and switching habits no longer carry over.

Why Facer feels more fun than ordinary watch settings
A catalog instead of a utility menu
A watch’s built-in face picker is designed to configure a device. Facer treats the face as part of the device’s identity. Search and browsing let you find a style for a hobby, franchise, outfit or mood without knowing its exact name.
Licensed designs and collecting
Facer lists licensed examples such as SpongeBob, DOOM, Atari, Call of Duty, NASA, Barbie, Hot Wheels and MVMT. Trying several faces, saving them and changing them casually makes the watch feel more like an accessory than a fixed appliance.

Looks adds a social layer
Looks is Facer’s discovery and sharing layer. It connects face ideas with complete watch styles and can surface compatible bands, so browsing becomes visual inspiration rather than a technical search.
Creator tools keep the catalog moving
Facer also announced updates for creators. That matters because the appeal depends on a steady flow of new designs, not just a large archive of old ones.
The technical reason for the rebuild: Watch Face Format

Wear OS 6 is based on Android 16 (API level 36) and supports WFF version 4. Google says WFF became required for installing watch faces on all Wear OS devices in January 2026. Wear OS 6 behavior changes

How installation works now
- Install or update Facer on the Android phone and sign in to the correct account.
- Pair the Wear OS watch through its normal watch-management app and keep the phone and watch connected.
- Browse or search Facer, open a face and choose the app’s install, sync or push control. Labels can differ by app version.
- Approve any Google Play or watch permissions requested.
- Wait for transfer. If the face does not activate automatically, select it from the watch’s face picker.
Exact buttons vary by phone, watch and Facer release. Wear OS 6’s Watch Face Push system is the underlying marketplace mechanism, not a guarantee that every legacy face remains installable.

Battery life: useful signals, not a promise
Facer says the new format offers significantly improved battery behavior and adds Power Impact labels, including a low-power indicator. Those labels help compare designs, but they are not a universal laboratory measurement across every watch, brightness level, ambient mode and usage pattern.
A bright, animated face with frequent complications can still use more energy than a dark, static design. Google’s quality guidance limits Always-On Display illumination to 15% of pixels for WFF faces and sets memory budgets of 10 MB in ambient mode and 100 MB in interactive mode. Legacy faces and purchases may not migrate
Some old faces have been rebuilt as WFF versions; a rebuilt design may appear as a separate listing. Creators do not have to migrate every design, and unsupported features may be removed. A missing face can therefore mean “not migrated,” not an account or syncing failure. Facer says it is exploring support options for affected purchases. Facer’s compatibility and purchases FAQ

Several data sources and interactions are restricted
- Location-based data may be unavailable.
- Phone-battery, sunrise and sunset indicators may not work.
- Some complications, data sources and interactive elements cannot be carried over.
- The old three-tap face switcher is gone.
- Previewing a face before purchase may work differently or be unavailable.
- Only one Facer face can be pushed to the watch at a time.
These are consequences of the new platform and format, not necessarily bugs in the Facer app.
Older watches are a separate case
Existing installations on older Wear OS versions may continue under more limited conditions, while new purchases or the newest app flow may not be available. Do not assume every Galaxy Watch or Pixel Watch behaves identically: check the watch’s Wear OS version and the individual face listing.

Is Facer Premium worth paying for?
Facer Premium provides access to premium faces, removes ads, keeps recently synced faces in the watchbox and provides a larger watchbox on the watch, according to Facer’s help documentation. Facer Premium benefits The official signup page shows the available plans, but the payable amount varies by region and storefront, so check the current Google Play listing or Facer Premium page before subscribing.
- Consider it if you change faces frequently, want licensed designs, dislike ads or would otherwise buy several individual premium faces.
- Skip it if free faces meet your needs, you keep one face indefinitely, or you do not want a subscription.

If a face does not appear
- Confirm the watch’s Wear OS version is compatible.
- Update Facer and the watch’s companion software.
- Check that the expected Facer account is signed in.
- Determine whether the design is legacy and unmigrated.
- Search for a newly listed WFF replacement.
- Retry syncing with the watch connected to the phone.
- Check for unsupported data sources or complications.

Verdict
Facer does make Android watch faces fun again, but the fun now sits on a stricter foundation. For a current Wear OS 6 owner who values variety, fandom and easy experimentation, it is one of the strongest ways to make a generic smartwatch feel personal. For someone attached to older purchases, advanced complications or the old instant-switch workflow, the same update can feel like a forced migration.
