What is new about the Freak ONE Navy Blue?
Ulysse Nardin presents the Navy Blue as a core-collection Freak ONE in deep indigo. The brand describes the color as a nod to its marine-chronometer history and its contemporary watchmaking. This is a color and material execution of the Freak ONE’s unconventional architecture, not a redesign of how the watch tells time.
The official US pages list references 2403-500-3A/3A and 2403-500-3A/3B. The 3A/3A page specifies a 44 mm case combining titanium and carbon composite, with a Carbonium bezel. Ulysse Nardin says Carbonium uses carbon fibres like those in aircraft wings and fuselages, including offcuts from aircraft manufacturing. The manufacturer claims this material has 40 percent lower environmental impact than other carbon composites; that is the brand’s comparison, not an independent lifecycle assessment.

How does a watch without hands tell time?
The Freak ONE has no conventional dial, hands, or crown. Instead, the hour indication is carried by a rotating disc, while the movement’s one-hour flying carousel orbits the centre and uses a smaller pointer to indicate minutes. The mechanism itself becomes part of the display.
To set the time, the bezel rotates the display. Monochrome’s 17 October 2024 first look describes opening the Freak plaque at six o’clock to unlock the bezel before turning it. The same account describes manual winding by turning the caseback winding system counterclockwise. These setting and winding details are Monochrome’s reporting; Ulysse Nardin’s official page confirms the flying carousel and UN-240 movement.

UN-240 movement and published specifications
Ulysse Nardin identifies the movement as its self-winding manufacture caliber UN-240. The official US model page lists a DIAMonSIL escapement, a 90-hour power reserve, 229 parts, 15 jewels, and a frequency of 3 Hz, or 21,600 vibrations per hour.

Straps, launch pricing, and availability
Monochrome reported two rubber strap configurations in its 17 October 2024 article: black with blue ballistic-style texture, or two-tone blue and grey. It also reported a black DLC titanium and ceramic folding buckle. Confirm strap configuration against the specific reference and seller listing before purchase.
Monochrome reported launch prices of CHF 63,300 including VAT and EUR 67,500 including VAT on 17 October 2024. These are dated launch figures, not verified current prices or offers. Where the Navy Blue sits in the Freak story
Ulysse Nardin dates the first Freak to 2001. The brand says the Freak ONE received the Iconic Watch Prize at the 2023 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Those milestones help explain why the Navy Blue is presented as a new expression of a long-running design concept rather than a conventional blue-dial variant.
