Google announced Tap to Pay, new games and school settings in its 2024 back-to-school update. A May 13, 2026 Google Health Community announcement later described sibling calling and messaging within a Google Family group, plus family challenges that can unlock games and rewards. These additions sit on top of the watch’s LTE calling, location, activity tracking, School Time and parent-managed contacts.
Most connected functions require an Ace Pass. Google currently limits setup and use to the United States, excluding Alaska and U.S. territories.
What the Fitbit Ace LTE does
Fitbit Ace LTE is a children’s smartwatch with built-in LTE, GPS location, activity tracking, games, School Time, an alarm clock, and calls and messaging. Google’s current specifications list calling and messaging with up to 20 contacts. Parents add and manage those contacts in the Ace app; the child cannot use the watch as an unrestricted messaging device.
Google said in its May 29, 2024 launch announcement that there are no ads or third-party apps, and that only contacts added by a parent can call or message the device. The watch can therefore work as a connected child device rather than depending on the child carrying a phone, but the LTE and other core connected functions require Ace Pass.

Feature timeline: launch versus later additions
| When | Features or details Google described | What to understand |
|---|---|---|
| Launch announcement, May 29, 2024 | LTE calling and messaging, location sharing, Fitbit Arcade games, parent-approved contacts, no ads or third-party apps; Ace Pass pricing of $9.99 per month or $119.99 per year was announced. | The prices are launch-era figures, not verified current pricing. | Back-to-school update, 2024 | Tap to Pay, new games and school settings. | Google presented these as additions in that update, not as a complete changelog. Some functions require current software. |

Tap to Pay
Tap to Pay is the most prominent payment-related addition in Google’s 2024 back-to-school announcement. It gives the Ace LTE a way to support contactless payment experiences from the watch, alongside its communication and activity features.
Google’s announcement does not, by itself, define every eligibility rule, supported payment setup or merchant limitation. Treat availability as software- and region-dependent, and follow the payment setup instructions shown in the current Ace app rather than assuming that every Ace LTE has the same configuration.
New games and school controls
More Fitbit Arcade games
Google announced new games in the same 2024 back-to-school update. Fitbit Arcade games are designed around activity and short play sessions rather than an open app store. Because Google did not present the announcement as a full game catalog, the exact titles and availability can vary with software updates.
School settings
The update also highlighted school settings. School Time is part of the watch’s core feature set and is intended to limit distractions during school hours while leaving approved functions available according to the parent’s configuration. The exact controls and labels can change with the Ace app and watch software.

Family calling, messaging and challenges
Sibling communication
Google’s May 13, 2026 Family Matters announcement says siblings who belong to the same Google Family group can call and message one another after they are added as contacts in the Ace app. This is a controlled family-contact model, not unrestricted friend-to-friend messaging: parent approval and contact setup still apply.
Family challenges and rewards
The same announcement describes family challenges that can unlock early access to games and rewards. Google has not published a comprehensive rollout schedule or universal regional guarantee for these features, so families should check the current app and watch versions before relying on them.

Yes, some bands are more than cosmetic accessories in Google’s description. Attaching a compatible Ace Band can unlock band-associated experiences such as activity challenges, collectible items for the eejie and a Noodle.
Those experiences are tied to the specific band listing. Google does not promise that every band unlocks the same content, so check the exact product description before buying one for a particular game or reward.

- Compatibility: The sylacor Charger Dock is designed for the Fitbit Google Ace LTE Kids Smartwatch. (Note: This product includes only the replacement charger).
Ace Pass, phone and regional requirements
Ace Pass is a practical requirement
Google’s current specifications mark calling and messaging, location and games as requiring Ace Pass, and the plan is also needed for setup. Without the service, the watch should not be treated as a fully connected LTE child watch. The launch announcement quoted $9.99 monthly or $119.99 annually, but those were 2024 launch terms; verify the current price and subscription conditions before purchase.
Where it can be set up
- A Google Account for the United States is required.
- Google documents use in the United States excluding Alaska and U.S. territories.
- Updates require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; 5 GHz Wi-Fi is not compatible with the update process.
Compatible phones
Google lists most Android phones running Android 11 or newer and iPhones running iOS 16 or newer. The watch also needs Wi-Fi and Ace Pass during setup.
What to check before buying
- Contacts: Confirm that the parent-approved contact model and limit of up to 20 contacts fit your family.
- Subscription: Include the recurring Ace Pass cost in the ownership decision; LTE and key features depend on it.
- Location: Verify that your child’s location and account region meet Google’s U.S.-only eligibility rules.
- School use: Check the current School Time controls in the Ace app.
- Games and bands: Review the current software and the exact band listing for the games, challenges or collectibles you expect.
- Battery expectations: Google’s maximum battery figures are approximate, based on pre-production hardware and software testing, and are not a guarantee of real-world runtime.
Bottom line for families
The meaningful new features are Tap to Pay and additional games from the 2024 back-to-school update, followed by the 2026 family tools for approved sibling communication and family challenges. Ace LTE remains a parent-controlled LTE watch, not a general-purpose smartwatch: Ace Pass, a compatible phone, supported U.S. eligibility and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for updates are all part of the practical requirements.
