The March 15, 2024 rumor was only half right. Samsung did use a new 3nm Exynos processor, but it was called Exynos W1000, not the rumored W940. Samsung launched two Galaxy Watch7 sizes and a separate 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra—not a Watch7 Classic, Watch7 Pro, and mystery third Watch7 design.
What the March 2024 rumor claimed
Reports published on March 15, 2024, suggested that Samsung could expand the Galaxy Watch7 family to three design variants. The possibilities included a Galaxy Watch7 Classic, a Galaxy Watch7 Pro and an unidentified third model. One interpretation was that the mystery watch might use a squarer display, while another was that it could simply be the regular sporty model.
The same reports associated the watch with an Exynos W940 processor, approximately 30% higher performance and roughly 50% better efficiency. Those figures and model names came from tipsters, not Samsung. Both 9to5Google’s March 15 report and SamMobile’s coverage warned that the claims were uncertain.
“Three variants” meant separate product families or designs, not simply three case sizes. The reports also did not establish what the third model would be called.

Which parts came true?
| Rumor | What happened |
|---|---|
| Three Watch7 variants, including Classic and Pro | Not confirmed. Samsung announced Watch7 in two sizes and a separate Watch Ultra. |
| Squarer-screen mystery model | No such Watch7 model appeared in the July 2024 announcement. |
| Exynos W940 | The final processor was named Exynos W1000. |
| 3nm manufacturing | Correct. Samsung used a five-core 3nm W1000. |
| About 50% better efficiency | Not a final Samsung specification. Samsung instead claimed 30% improved application-processor power efficiency. |
The processor was real, but its name changed
Samsung’s final chip was the five-core Exynos W1000, manufactured on a 3nm process. The Watch7 and Watch Ultra shared this platform, with 2GB of memory, 32GB of storage, Wear OS 5 powered by Samsung and One UI 6 Watch. The official specifications are detailed in Samsung’s July 10, 2024 announcement.
Samsung claimed the W1000 delivered up to three-times-faster CPU performance and 30% better application-processor power efficiency than the previous generation. These are Samsung’s claims, not independent laboratory results. A 3nm process can improve performance per watt, but it cannot by itself guarantee 30% longer total battery life: screen brightness, always-on display, LTE, GPS, workouts, sleep tracking, notifications, apps and battery capacity all affect endurance.

Samsung’s actual July 10, 2024 lineup
Samsung announced the following models on July 10, 2024. U.S. general availability began July 24 in the markets covered by the announcement.
| Model | Key hardware | Positioning |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch7 40mm | 40.4 × 40.4 × 9.7mm; 28.8g; 1.3-inch 432 × 432 Super AMOLED; 300mAh battery | Smallest, lightest standard Watch7 |
| Galaxy Watch7 44mm | 44.4 × 44.4 × 9.7mm; 33.8g; 1.5-inch 480 × 480 Super AMOLED; 425mAh battery | Larger display and battery without moving to Ultra |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm | Approximately 47.1 × 47.4 × 12.1mm; 60.5g; 1.5-inch 480 × 480 Super AMOLED; 590mAh battery | Titanium, rugged outdoor model with Quick Button |
The Watch Ultra added 10ATM water resistance and Samsung claimed up to 100 hours in Power Saving mode. That estimate applies to the specified power-saving mode, not ordinary mixed use. The Watch7 models used a conventional circular design; none had the mechanical-style rotating bezel associated with the Classic line.

What the 3nm upgrade changes in everyday use
Where owners may notice it
- Faster app launches and menu responses, particularly for owners of older Galaxy Watches.
- More headroom for newer health, sleep and Wear OS features.
- Potentially better performance per watt during GPS and workout tasks.
- Dual-frequency GPS on Watch7 models, which can help positioning in difficult environments.
What it does not prove
- It does not mean the watch lasts 50% longer; that was an unconfirmed tipster estimate.
- It does not make every workload three times faster; Samsung’s figure is a claimed CPU comparison.
- It does not eliminate the effect of LTE, screen settings, GPS and workout tracking on battery life.
Watch7 versus Watch Ultra
| Consideration | Galaxy Watch7 | Galaxy Watch Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Exynos W1000, five cores, 3nm | |
| Sizes | 40mm or 44mm | 47mm only |
| Weight | 28.8g or 33.8g | 60.5g |
| Battery | 300mAh or 425mAh | 590mAh |
| Construction | Standard case | Titanium case, 10ATM water resistance |
| U.S. July 2024 MSRP | $299.99–$379.99, depending on size and Bluetooth/LTE | $649.99, LTE |
The Ultra was not a “Watch7 Pro” in name. It occupied a similar premium and outdoor-oriented role, but Samsung introduced it as a separate product. It is heavier, more expensive and physically larger, while offering the biggest battery, titanium construction and a dedicated Quick Button.
Health and tracking features
Samsung highlighted more than 100 workout modes, sleep analysis, heart-rate monitoring, Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification, ECG and blood-pressure monitoring where available, an Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) Index, and improved BioActive Sensor technology. Watch7 also introduced dual-frequency GPS.

Samsung did not announce a Galaxy Watch7 Classic or Galaxy Watch7 Pro in 2024. Consequently, buyers seeking a rotating bezel could not get that design in the Watch7 generation. The Ultra supplied a rugged premium alternative, but it was not a literal Pro model and did not restore the Classic bezel.

The Galaxy Watch FE also appeared separately in Samsung’s U.S. July 2024 MSRP list. It was a lower-cost Galaxy Watch product, not a third Watch7 variant.
Launch-era U.S. pricing
Samsung’s U.S. MSRP file effective July 2024 listed these launch prices. They are historical MSRPs, not current August 2026 street prices.
| Model | U.S. July 2024 MSRP |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch7 Bluetooth 40mm | $299.99 |
| Galaxy Watch7 Bluetooth 44mm | $329.99 |
| Galaxy Watch7 LTE 40mm | $349.99 |

| Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE 47mm | $649.99 |
| Galaxy Watch FE Bluetooth 40mm | $199.99 |

Which model made sense for different buyers?
- Watch7 40mm: best for smaller wrists and minimum weight.
- Watch7 44mm: better for a larger display and battery while retaining a conventional watch profile.
- Watch Ultra: suited to outdoor use, durability and battery capacity; excessive for basic notifications and step tracking.
- Watch FE: sensible only when lower price matters more than the W1000 platform and latest sensor package.
- Rotating-bezel buyers: the 2024 Watch7 lineup did not meet that requirement.
Bluetooth models suit people who usually carry a phone. LTE adds more independence for calls, messages and streaming, but requires carrier provisioning and can consume more battery. Wearable-line pricing, supported bands, roaming and phone requirements vary by carrier and country.
Verdict
The rumor correctly pointed toward a major processor change and a 3nm manufacturing process, but it got the product lineup wrong and used an incorrect W940 name. Samsung ultimately delivered the Exynos W1000 in two Watch7 sizes plus a separate Watch Ultra. For buyers, the meaningful questions were responsiveness, battery capacity, ruggedness, LTE needs and bezel preference—not the “three variants” headline by itself.
