Galaxy Watch8 Classic leak was right: Samsung brought back the physical rotating bezel

Samsung really did bring back the physical rotating bezel. Here is what the Galaxy Watch8 Classic leak got right, what changed, and how the 46mm, 63.5g watch compares with Watch8 and Ultra.

Yes—the leak was genuine. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 Classic has a real, grooved physical rotating bezel, not a touchscreen imitation. Samsung announced it on July 9, 2025, and general sales began July 25, 2025, so the former leak is now a confirmed product fact. The more useful buying question is whether you want a substantial 46mm stainless-steel watch weighing 63.5g, rather than a light everyday model.

What the original leak claimed

Before launch, leaked renders showed a Classic-branded Galaxy Watch with a conventional round case and a rotating outer bezel. Reports also said Samsung would revive the Classic line after the Galaxy Watch7 generation shipped without a Classic model. Regulatory and specification references pointed to a 46mm version, a battery of roughly 445mAh and possibly 64GB of storage.

Those clues did not all have the same evidential weight. SamMobile’s report and Android Authority’s render coverage were useful for the likely design, while regulatory filings can support model and battery claims. Marketing leaks can still contain regional or pre-production errors, so they were not confirmation on their own.

Samsung confirmed a physical bezel

Samsung’s finished product uses a physical, grooved rotating bezel. Turning the ring scrolls through menus, tiles, notifications and lists; it is not merely a capacitive gesture around the display. That gives users tactile feedback and can be easier to operate while walking or when part of the screen is obscured. It also restores the defining hardware control associated with earlier Classic models and separates this watch from the standard Galaxy Watch8.

The trade-off is physical. The bezel is part of a larger, heavier stainless-steel case, so it adds bulk and weight compared with Samsung’s slimmer standard Watch8 models. Whether that is an advantage depends on whether tactile control matters more to you than minimal weight.

Samsung describes the feature on its UK product page, and its launch material identifies the bezel as a signature Classic control for navigating the watch.

Announcement and release timeline

  1. Galaxy Watch7 generation: Samsung offered no Classic model.
  2. Pre-launch period: renders and reports pointed to a Classic revival and a returning bezel.
  3. July 9, 2025: Samsung announced Galaxy Watch8 Classic at Galaxy Unpacked.
  4. July 25, 2025: general sales began according to Samsung’s regional launch guide.

Those dates come from Samsung Canada’s launch guide. Carrier availability, delivery dates and color selection can differ by country.

What the leak got right

Specification Galaxy Watch8 Classic confirmed detail
Case size 46mm only
Dimensions 46.0 × 46.4 × 10.6mm
Weight 63.5g (Samsung’s published watch figure; strap inclusion is not specified)
Display 34.0mm Super AMOLED, 438 × 438 resolution
Processor Five-core Exynos W1000, built on 3nm
Operating system Wear OS 6 powered by Samsung
Battery 445mAh
Case material Stainless steel
Connectivity Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE variants
Controls Physical rotating bezel, crown-positioned Quick Button and standard side control

These specifications are listed in Samsung’s 2026 interim report and regional product materials. The approximately 445mAh battery reported before launch was broadly accurate. It does not, however, guarantee a fixed number of days: brightness, always-on display, GPS, LTE, health tracking, workouts and notifications all affect endurance. The 64GB storage figure appeared in leak-stage reporting but is not established in the cited official specification material, so it should not be treated as confirmed.

How it differs from the standard Galaxy Watch8

Model Published size and weight Design and control Best fit
Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm, 63.5g Stainless steel with physical rotating bezel Traditional styling and tactile navigation
Galaxy Watch8 40mm 40mm, 30.0g Slimmer design without the Classic’s physical bezel Smaller wrists and lighter daily wear
Galaxy Watch8 44mm 44mm, 34.0g Slimmer design without the Classic’s physical bezel Larger display with less weight

Samsung’s published figures show that the Classic is not simply a standard Watch8 with a ring added. It is a single-size, substantially heavier watch with stainless steel and a traditional control philosophy. The standard Watch8 uses Samsung’s newer cushion or squircle-influenced case language and offers 40mm and 44mm choices.

Classic versus Galaxy Watch Ultra

Model Key differentiator Main trade-off
Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm stainless-steel case and physical rotating bezel Heavy, one size, and premium pricing
Galaxy Watch Ultra 47mm titanium case, rugged positioning and LTE-focused configuration More expensive and less conventional in styling

Samsung’s June 2026 US MSRP list puts the Watch Ultra at $649.99, compared with $499.99 for the Classic’s Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model and $549.99 for LTE. The Ultra is the stronger candidate for rugged outdoor construction and larger-battery priorities; the Classic suits readers who specifically want a conventional watch appearance and tactile bezel. Their size and price overlap does not make the Classic an “affordable Ultra.”

Software and health features

The Watch8 Classic runs Wear OS 6 with Samsung’s One UI Watch 8. Samsung also lists Gemini integration and voice controls, sleep-related guidance, cardiovascular and vascular-stress insights, Running Coach with personalized plans, and Antioxidant Index measurements. These are software and wellness capabilities, not promises of medical outcomes.

Availability can depend on country, regulatory approval, Samsung account, paired phone and app version. Samsung Canada, for example, says some setup and health functions require a compatible smartphone and Samsung Health version 6.22 or later. Verify ECG, blood-pressure, sleep-apnea and other health-function eligibility for your region before buying; do not treat wellness readings as diagnoses.

Compatibility, Bluetooth and LTE caveats

  • Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE are separate configurations; LTE hardware costs more.
  • LTE service normally requires a compatible carrier, activation and a separate wearable line or plan. An LTE watch is not automatically free from phone or service requirements.
  • Samsung Health features can have phone, account, operating-system and regional restrictions. A complete current Android compatibility matrix is not established by the cited sources, so check Samsung’s support page for your market before purchase.
  • Colors and stock vary by country. Samsung’s cited US materials show black and white options, but that does not guarantee identical availability elsewhere.

US price and buying choices

Samsung’s US product page and June 2026 MSRP list give the following official list prices:

Configuration US MSRP What to remember
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, 46mm $499.99 Hardware price; no cellular service included
LTE, 46mm $549.99 Carrier activation and recurring service may add cost

See Samsung’s US buying page and the June 2026 MSRP sheet. These are US list prices, not guaranteed sale prices; trade-ins, promotions and carrier subsidies can change the checkout total.

Who should buy the Watch8 Classic?

  • Choose it if a physical rotating bezel is a priority and you prefer tactile scrolling.
  • Choose it if stainless steel and traditional watch styling appeal to you.
  • Choose it if a 46mm watch fits comfortably and current Samsung software matters.
  • Look at the standard Watch8 if low weight, a smaller case or a thinner profile matters more.
  • Consider the Ultra if rugged outdoor hardware, titanium construction or its LTE-oriented configuration is the priority.
  • Consider a Watch6 Classic only as a used or clearance alternative after checking battery condition, warranty and remaining software support; it is older hardware.

Bottom line

The headline claim was right about the important detail: Samsung restored a genuine physical rotating bezel. But the Galaxy Watch8 Classic is a premium, 46mm, 63.5g stainless-steel watch—not a small or inexpensive Watch8 variant. Buy it for tactile control and classic styling; choose the standard Watch8 for lighter wear or the Ultra for a more rugged brief.
