The OnePlus Watch 3’s meaningful upgrades are longer claimed battery life, tougher materials, dual-frequency GPS, a brighter display and expanded wellness tracking. One widely repeated early claim needs a correction: ECG appeared in pre-launch reporting, but it is not listed as a confirmed feature in OnePlus’s US launch specifications. The 46mm model gets the fullest set of upgrades; the smaller 43mm version makes notable battery and health-feature compromises.
What was rumored—and what actually shipped?
A December 21, 2024 report outlined expected upgrades before the watch launched. OnePlus launched the Watch 3 in the United States and Canada on February 18, 2025. The final product, rather than those early expectations, is the relevant guide for buyers.

The official launch details are in OnePlus’s launch announcement. For a US buyer, the safe conclusion on ECG is that it should not be assumed to be available.
Battery life: the clearest practical upgrade
For the 46mm Watch 3, OnePlus rates endurance at up to five days in Smart Mode, up to three days with heavy Smart Mode use, and up to 16 days in Power Saver Mode. It also claims that a 10-minute charge can provide up to a day of normal use. These are manufacturer claims under stated conditions, not a promise that every owner will get those runtimes.

- Always-on display, screen brightness and third-party watch faces affect power use.

- Power Saver Mode is not full Wear OS operation; the longer figure comes with reduced smartwatch functionality.
For the 43mm model, OnePlus lists up to 60 hours in standard Smart Mode, up to 36 hours with heavy use, and up to seven days in Power Saver Mode. Its 10-minute charging claim is up to 24 hours of normal use. The smaller case therefore does not preserve the larger model’s headline endurance.
Health features are wellness tools, not medical monitoring
On the 46mm model, OnePlus’s 60-second Health Check-In brings several readings and indicators together, including heart rate, blood oxygen, vascular-health indicators related to arterial stiffness, wrist temperature, sleep-related data and physical and mental wellness indicators. OnePlus also lists sleep-quality scoring, snoring-risk assessment, high- and low-heart-rate notifications, SpO2 spot checks and all-day tracking, and Health Insights in the OHealth app.
OnePlus says the watch is intended for general wellness and fitness, not for diagnosing, treating, curing, mitigating or preventing disease. Vascular-health results are not a clinical diagnosis. The listed features should not be treated as a substitute for medical monitoring or as equivalent to an ECG capability. Availability can vary with region, software, account and regulatory approval.
The 43mm model omits temperature sensing and vascular-health tracking found on the 46mm version, according to Android Central’s hands-on coverage. OnePlus lists Google Health Connect support and Strava integration in its 46mm specifications.
Display, materials and fit
The 46mm model pairs a 1.50-inch LTPO AMOLED display (466 × 466) with a stated peak brightness of up to 2,200 nits. It has a titanium-alloy bezel, sapphire crystal cover and stainless-steel case. Sapphire is more scratch-resistant than ordinary glass, but it is not indestructible.
OnePlus lists IP68 and 5ATM ratings and MIL-STD-810H testing claims. IP68 and 5ATM describe different test conditions; neither makes the watch suitable for every kind of diving or high-pressure water activity. Military-standard testing is not a guarantee against damage in every accident.

Fit is a significant consideration: OnePlus gives the 46mm watch dimensions of approximately 46.6 × 47.6 × 11.75mm, excluding lugs and sensor area, and weight of about 49.7g without the strap. That size and weight may be uncomfortable for smaller wrists or for people who prefer a lighter watch while sleeping.
GPS and sports tracking
The 46mm model supports dual-frequency L1+L5 positioning and GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou and QZSS satellite systems. Dual-frequency hardware is intended to help in challenging settings such as dense urban areas and wooded routes, but specifications alone do not establish real-world accuracy.

The watch also offers sport-specific tracking for activities including skiing, tennis, badminton, swimming, hiking, cycling, rowing, elliptical workouts and jump rope. The usefulness of those numbers depends on how well the OHealth app presents them; the feature list alone does not establish Garmin-level training analysis or clinical-grade accuracy.
Performance, Wear OS and apps
The 46mm Watch 3 combines a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 wearable processor with a BES2800BP secondary MCU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The dual-engine design pairs a processor for the richer Wear OS experience with a lower-power controller that supports background functions and endurance. That is an architectural explanation, not a guarantee that any particular task always runs on one chip.
At launch, the watch ran Wear OS 5 alongside RTOS. OnePlus lists Google Play, Maps, Assistant, Calendar and Wallet, as well as Bluetooth calling, music functions, Health Connect and Strava support. Actual feature behavior can depend on software updates, country, Google account and phone compatibility.

Compatibility and ecosystem limits
The official US 43mm specifications require an Android phone running Android 9.0 or later with a compatible version of Google Mobile Services. The watch does not support iPhone or Android Go devices. Android version alone may not be enough if Google services are missing or incompatible.
Some functions depend on the phone: OnePlus says camera remote control requires a supported phone running OxygenOS 15 or later. OnePlus-specific controls may also be limited to OnePlus phones, while Google features can require a Google account and vary by region. Check the relevant regional product specifications before buying.
Should OnePlus Watch 2 owners upgrade?
The upgrade is most compelling if you want the 46mm model’s sapphire cover, longer claimed everyday endurance, dual-frequency GPS, brighter display or added health insights. Those are practical improvements rather than a wholesale change in what a Wear OS watch can do.
Keeping the Watch 2 makes sense if its battery and performance already suit you, or if your main reason to upgrade is ECG, cellular connectivity or a smaller case. The Watch 3’s launch specifications do not confirm ECG for the US, and neither the 46mm nor 43mm version should be mistaken for a medical monitoring device.

- Pixel and Fitbit users: A Google Pixel Watch may be a better ecosystem match.
- Training-focused athletes: Garmin may suit readers who prioritize sports analytics and training or recovery tools over Wear OS apps.
- iPhone users: The OnePlus Watch 3 is not compatible; consider a watch designed for iOS instead.
