Garmin Connect+ is an optional paid tier for the Garmin Connect app, announced on March 27, 2025—not a new August 2026 launch. Garmin says the existing Connect app, its standard features and historical data remain free. In the United States, Garmin’s launch pricing was $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year, including a 30-day trial, but the price and availability shown at checkout can vary by country, account, device and promotion.
The subscription is easiest to justify if you want Garmin-native nutrition tracking, long-term performance charts, trail discovery, enhanced LiveTrack or premium coaching content. It is difficult to justify for owners who only record activities, review sleep and health metrics, and use standard Garmin history.
What Garmin Connect+ is—and is not
Connect+ is attached to a Garmin Connect account. It adds cloud, analysis, coaching, mapping, social and tracking tools; it does not replace Garmin Connect or make a Garmin watch usable only with a subscription. You must first pair a compatible Garmin device with your account before subscribing. Garmin’s launch announcement says existing Garmin Connect features and data remain free: Garmin’s March 27, 2025 announcement.
That promise concerns existing functionality. It should not be read as a guarantee that every future Garmin feature will always be free.

Garmin’s current feature directory warns that availability varies by device and region: Garmin support feature list.
Active Intelligence is app-based and opt-in
Active Intelligence is an interpretation layer over Garmin data, not medical advice, a diagnosis or a replacement for a clinician. Insights appear in the Garmin Connect app—not directly on the watch—and remain available for 15 minutes after viewing. Garmin describes the feature as beta at launch and says it supports English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Traditional Chinese.
To enable it, open Garmin Connect → More → Settings → Garmin Connect+ → Feature Settings → Data & Privacy → Agree. You can opt out independently; it is not enabled by default. Details are in Garmin’s Active Intelligence support page.
Nutrition has strict device requirements
Nutrition requires an active subscription, a compatible watch and current watch software. Garmin’s current support list includes examples such as D2 Mach 2, Enduro 3, fēnix 8, Forerunner 570 and 970, Instinct 3, quatix 8, tactix 8, Venu 4, Venu X1 and vívoactive 6; other models may need a Connect IQ component. Check the feature-specific list rather than assuming every Connect+ watch supports on-device logging: Garmin Nutrition requirements. Garmin labels Nutrition as general-wellness information, not diagnosis or treatment.

Price, trial and renewal
For the United States, Garmin listed these prices at launch:
| Plan | Launch-listed price | Effective cost |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $6.99 per month | $83.88 over 12 months |
| Annual | $69.99 per year | About $5.83 per month; saves $13.89 (roughly 16.6%) versus 12 monthly payments |
The launch offer included a 30-day free trial. A payment card is required, but Garmin says it is not charged until the trial ends. Billing then renews on the selected schedule. Check the live checkout price, local taxes, currency and cancellation terms because Garmin can change them by market or promotion. The launch announcement is at Garmin’s official release.
Compatibility: check the feature, not just the subscription
Connect+ is account-level, but its components are not universal. A watch may support the subscription while lacking Nutrition on the watch; another may require current firmware or a Connect IQ glance. Live Activity and enhanced LiveTrack depend on compatible hardware, phone connectivity and supported activities. Garmin’s newer-device manuals describe Connect+ as optional and direct owners to feature limitations; for example, see the Venu 4 manual.

Trial cancellation and what expires
You can cancel during the 30-day trial without losing the remaining trial period. Garmin says a newly activated subscription may take up to 72 hours to finish processing before it appears in the Subscription Management Center; cancellation instructions and that delay are covered at Garmin support. Confirm that the cancellation status is complete rather than merely deleting the app.
| After Connect+ expires | Result |
|---|---|
| Active Intelligence | No new insights. |
| Badges and points | Earned badges and points remain. |
| Profile frames | Removed. |
| Exclusive offers | Unavailable; already redeemed codes remain valid for 180 days or until the offer expires, whichever comes first. |
| Enhanced LiveTrack | Personalized URL, session and SMS notifications remain for 30 days after expiry. |
| Live Activity | Access ends. |
| Nutrition | Existing entries remain visible, but you cannot add new information. |

These outcomes are feature-specific, so cancellation does not erase all Garmin history, nor does it preserve every premium tool.

Runners and cyclists
Subscribe if customizable multi-period charts, Garmin Coach guidance or integrated nutrition address a real training need. If your watch already supplies the live metrics you use and you rely on another coaching platform, the free tier may be enough.

Hikers and trail runners
Garmin Trails and 3D Maps make the strongest case when you regularly discover routes and review terrain. Verify that your device can receive the routes and that the feature is offered in your region.
Strength and indoor-workout users
Live Activity is useful when a phone display is preferable to the watch for videos, repetitions and weight edits. It is less compelling if you only need basic recorded sets.
Casual Garmin owners
Stay with free Garmin Connect if your priorities are recording workouts, GPS, sleep, heart rate, training status and access to historical data. A once-a-year report or cosmetic badge is rarely a strong reason for a recurring payment.
Alternatives and trade-offs
Connect+’s advantage is integration: Garmin already holds your activity, health and training data, so one account can connect charts, routes, nutrition and coaching. The trade-off is another recurring cost and greater dependence on Garmin’s app, cloud service and future pricing. Athletes seeking specialist workout analysis or structured coaching may prefer services such as Strava or TrainingPeaks; detailed food-database users may prefer MyFitnessPal Premium. Compare current prices and feature terms directly before switching.

Verdict
Garmin Connect+ is an optional convenience and analysis package, not a requirement for owning a Garmin watch. Start the trial if you will use at least one high-value feature—usually Nutrition, Performance Dashboard, Garmin Trails, enhanced LiveTrack or premium coaching—and confirm that your device supports it. Otherwise, Garmin Connect’s free core remains sufficient for standard tracking and history, making the subscription hard to justify.
