Yes. Garmin Pay can be used to purchase eligible paid watch faces, apps and other Connect IQ content. Garmin announced the feature on August 6, 2024; it is now an established Connect IQ Store checkout option, not a new 2026 launch. You choose content in the Connect IQ Store and confirm the transaction on your Garmin device—this is a digital purchase, not a tap at a shop payment terminal.
The important catches are device-by-device compatibility, regional card support, a sync delay after purchase and different refund rules for developer-managed payments.
What Garmin Pay purchasing actually means
Garmin Pay normally refers to contactless retail payments made at compatible terminals with a Garmin watch. Connect IQ purchasing uses the same Garmin Wallet card as an online checkout method for digital content. You browse the Connect IQ Store, select an item and approve payment through the Garmin device.
Garmin’s August 6, 2024 announcement highlighted Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, GoPro, Porsche, TaylorMade and NASA-themed content as launch examples. Those brands were examples of the initial catalog, not a promise that every item remains available in every country.

What you can buy
The store mixes free and paid content, including:
- Watch faces
- Device apps
- Widgets
- Data fields
- Music-related apps and services
- Custom watch faces made with Face It
Current listings change by country, account and selected device. The popular Connect IQ page reviewed for this article showed paid watch faces at $1.99, $2.49, $4.99, $5.99 and $6.99, with GoPro Camera Control listed at $5.99. These are observed listings, not fixed worldwide prices.
Prices and payment models
At launch, Garmin said premium content had suggested retail prices starting at $4.99. Current store prices can be lower or higher because developers set prices and countries may apply different currencies, taxes or promotions.
| Payment type | What it means | Who handles support and refunds |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin checkout | You select Buy and pay with a Garmin Wallet card. | Garmin’s Connect IQ purchase and refund process. |
| “Payment” or “Payment Required” | The developer uses an external payment service or licensing system. | The developer; Garmin says it does not receive those payments or issue refunds. |
Check the payment label before buying. A paid item is not automatically better than a free one, and its price does not establish update frequency, battery efficiency or quality.

Requirements before you buy
Garmin’s purchase requirements call for:
- The latest Garmin Connect app.
- The latest Connect IQ Store app.
- A credit or debit card added to Garmin Wallet.
- A Garmin model that supports Connect IQ purchases.
- An item that lists your exact device as compatible.
Garmin identifies Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and other major networks as potentially eligible, but issuer and country support varies. A card may work for Connect IQ purchases even when it cannot be used for contactless retail payments on the watch. Verification can require approval or a code from the card issuer.
Supported Garmin device families
Garmin’s live compatibility page includes models in these families: Approach S50 and S70; D2 Air, D2 Mach and D2 Mach 2; Descent G1, G2, Mk3 and Mk3i; Enduro 2 and 3; epix Gen 2 and epix Pro Gen 2; fēnix 7, fēnix 7 Pro, fēnix 8 and fēnix E; Forerunner 165, 255, 265, 570, 955, 965 and 970; Instinct 2, Instinct 3 and Instinct Crossover; MARQ Gen 2; quatix 7 and 8; tactix 7 and 8; Venu 2, 3, 4 and Venu X1; and vívoactive 5 and 6.
Edition variants such as Solar, Sapphire, Music, Tactical and Porsche versions are listed separately. Treat Garmin’s live list as authoritative: support can change, and Garmin explicitly warns that not every paid item works on every compatible model.

Choosing a paid face or app sensibly
Before paying, inspect the listing rather than assuming the price signals quality:
Recommended Free Tools
- Exact supported-device list, including your edition
- Recent update date and developer support details
- Ratings and review count (useful signals, not independent testing)
- Requested permissions
- Data fields or complications you actually need
- Reports of battery impact
- Whether Garmin’s 48-hour refund route applies
Free Connect IQ content and Garmin’s built-in faces may already meet your needs. Buying a new watch solely to obtain a $2–$7 face is rarely sensible; the hardware should also fit your fitness, navigation, battery-life and payment requirements.

If the item or purchase does not work
The Buy button is missing
The item may be free, unavailable in your region, incompatible with the selected device or unavailable to your account. Confirm the listing and selected device before troubleshooting payment.
The card will not verify
Follow the issuer’s approval or code request. Garmin’s Pay troubleshooting guidance notes that card support differs between contactless watch payments and Connect IQ purchases.
The purchase completed but nothing installed
In Connect IQ, open Device, then Installed Apps to check storage. Sync through Garmin Connect or Garmin Express, verify that the intended watch is selected and restart both phone and watch if necessary. Storage limits and app counts vary by model.

It works on one Garmin watch but not another
Connect IQ support is not a guarantee of item compatibility. The listing’s own device list controls.
Refunds: Garmin checkout versus developer payment
For applicable Garmin-processed Connect IQ purchases, Garmin says refund requests must be submitted within 48 hours. In the app, open the profile icon, choose Purchases, select the item, choose Report a Problem and Request a Refund, describe the issue, then select Next and Submit. On the web store, sign in, open the profile menu, choose Account Settings, use the three-dot menu beside the purchase and select Request a Refund.
Contact the developer first when the problem is a technical defect. If the listing uses “Payment” or “Payment Required,” Garmin says it does not manage that service, receive the money or issue the refund; the developer controls support, licensing and any refund decision. Requests after 48 hours are not guaranteed under Garmin’s stated policy.

Garmin Pay makes small, one-off Connect IQ purchases convenient when your Wallet card, watch and chosen item all qualify. Check the exact device list, permissions, payment label, recent reviews and refund path before confirming. The feature is real and available, but it is not a universal payment system for every Connect IQ app—and it does not turn the watch into a tap-to-buy terminal for digital content.
