Google did release a Performance Loop Band for the Pixel Watch 3, but not until after the watch was already on sale. The band is now listed for both Pixel Watch 3 sizes; the fair criticism is that Google’s fitness-focused watch launched without the strap that best matched its training pitch.
Why the Pixel Watch 3 needed this band on day one
Google launched the Pixel Watch 3 on September 10, 2024, emphasizing running and exercise features, including workout tracking, readiness insights and cardio-load information. Yet buyers received a small and large Active Band in the box, not the Performance Loop. The sport-oriented accessory arrived later, with availability reported on November 26, 2024. Google’s launch announcement and its Pixel Watch 3 product page establish the fitness positioning and included bands; 9to5Google reported the band’s later arrival.
That was a mismatch in launch strategy. A watch marketed for training should have offered its most adjustable workout band from the start, either in the box or as a launch-day option. People whose Active Band fit poorly had to make do or buy another strap. A closer fit may help keep the watch in place during movement, but the available specifications do not establish that the Performance Loop improves heart-rate readings or any other measurement.
What the Performance Loop Band is
Google describes the Performance Loop as a stretchable, micro-adjustable band made with recycled polyester, nylon and elastane yarns. Stainless-steel lugs attach it to the watch. In practical terms, it is a fabric alternative to the included Active Band, with adjustment designed to make it easier to find a close fit for a workout. Google calls it workout-friendly; that is not a separate water-resistance rating or a promise that it is ideal for every sport.

The band comes in different versions for different watch case sizes. Google lists multiple color-and-hardware combinations, including Obsidian with Matte Black, Porcelain with Polished Silver and Peony with Polished Silver. The 41mm range also lists Wintergreen with Champagne Gold; the 45mm range lists Moonstone with Moonstone hardware. Color selection and availability can vary. Check the watch size before choosing a band
Choose the band that matches the watch case, then check your wrist circumference against Google’s range for that band. Wrist size alone is not enough to select the correct connector.

Google also lists compatibility with the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 in 41mm, and Pixel Watch 4 in both 41mm and 45mm. The 41mm and 45mm bands are separate versions, not interchangeable. The band’s own fit ranges—not the broader wrist guidance on the watch product page—are the relevant figures when choosing this accessory. Google lists the band’s compatibility and sizing.
Price and current availability
The band is no longer a forthcoming accessory: Google lists it as compatible with both Pixel Watch 3 sizes. Contemporary U.S. coverage reported a $59.99 launch price in November 2024. That is a historical reported U.S. price, not confirmation of today’s price; check the Google Store listing or retailer checkout for current price and stock in your country.

Is it worth buying?
It makes sense if fit is a workout problem
- You run or train often and want to fine-adjust how snugly the watch sits.
- The Active Band feels loose at one adjustment and uncomfortably tight at the next.
- You prefer fabric to the included band for longer workouts, and accept the care trade-offs.
- You want a first-party accessory with hardware designed to match the watch.
Google recommends wearing the watch snugly for optimal performance. Snug does not mean painfully tight: if a band causes discomfort, irritation or numbness, loosen or remove it. A loose strap can shift during exercise; a tight one is not a sensible solution.
It is harder to justify if the included band works for you
The Active Band costs nothing extra because it comes with the watch, and it will be enough for many owners. If you exercise occasionally, are happy with its fit or prefer to rotate inexpensive straps, the Performance Loop’s premium is difficult to justify without a specific fit or fabric preference. Its design suggests a more adjustable workout fit, not a new watch feature or a proven improvement in sensor accuracy.

Fabric can absorb sweat and may take longer to dry than a non-fabric strap. Google’s product information does not specify a drying time, odor resistance, antimicrobial treatment or cleaning schedule, so buyers should not assume those properties. For lower-cost nylon, hook-and-loop or braided alternatives, check the exact 41mm or 45mm compatibility and recognize that fit, connector security and sweat handling vary by product.

In its review, 9to5Google criticized the band’s value and described its first attachment as less than smooth. That is one outlet’s experience, not evidence that every unit is difficult to fit. The official specification identifies the lugs as stainless steel, despite the reviewer initially mistaking them for plastic.

If you buy one, align the connector rather than forcing it, and check that both sides are securely attached before wearing the watch. More broadly, neither the product specifications nor the cited review establish a quantified workout-reading advantage over the Active Band.
The alternatives
Use the included Active Band
It is the no-extra-cost choice and the sensible starting point if it fits securely and comfortably. Pixel Watch 3 packaging includes small and large Active Bands, according to Google.
Consider a different fabric band
Google’s Woven Band is a more lifestyle-oriented option; the Performance Loop is the clearer fit for shoppers specifically seeking workout adjustability. Third-party nylon, hook-and-loop and braided bands can cost less, but verify the case-size compatibility and connector fit rather than relying on a generic Pixel Watch label.
