The Grand Seiko Evolution 9 SLGC007 Tentagraph is a large, high-beat automatic mechanical chronograph. Its 10-beat Caliber 9SC5 combines a published approximately 72-hour power reserve with Grand Seiko’s stated mean daily rate of +5 to −3 seconds per day. A snow-blue Mount Iwate-inspired dial, high-intensity-titanium case and ceramic bezel define the watch, while its 43.2 mm diameter, 51.5 mm lug-to-lug length, 15.3 mm thickness and 154 g weight make wrist fit a central consideration.

What the SLGC007 Tentagraph is

The SLGC007 is part of Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 collection. It is a self-winding chronograph that can also be wound by hand, powered by the 10-beat Caliber 9SC5. Grand Seiko says “Tentagraph” combines TEN beat, Three days, Automatic and ChronoGRAPH: a reference to the movement’s 10-beat frequency, roughly three-day reserve, automatic winding and chronograph function.

Grand Seiko describes the model as “A mechanical chronograph imbued with the majestic presence of Mount Iwate in winter.” The dial’s snow-blue color and embossed pattern are intended to suggest fresh snow and Mount Iwate’s ridgelines.

Caliber 9SC5: high-beat chronograph performance

10-beat operation

Caliber 9SC5 runs at 10 beats per second. The high frequency is intended to support stable timing, but it does not make the watch quartz-accurate. Grand Seiko publishes a mean daily rate of +5 to −3 seconds per day under its stated testing conditions and a normal-use accuracy range of +8 to −1 seconds per day.

Three-day reserve

When fully wound, the movement runs for approximately 72 hours. The watch is automatic, and the crown also permits manual winding, useful after the reserve has run down.

Chronograph layout

The chronograph records elapsed time on separate 30-minute and 12-hour scales. The watch also displays running seconds and the date. The ceramic bezel carries a tachymeter, allowing speed calculations over a measured distance when used with the chronograph.

Dial, case and finishing

The defining visual feature is the snow-blue dial with an embossed texture based on snow-covered Mount Iwate. The high-intensity-titanium case keeps the case strong while limiting weight compared with an equivalently sized steel chronograph. A ceramic bezel adds scratch resistance and frames the tachymeter scale.

The box-shaped sapphire crystal has anti-reflective treatment on its inner surface. LumiBrite is applied to the hands and indexes for low-light legibility. Grand Seiko also lists allergy-safe metal for the watch’s metal components.

How large is the SLGC007 on the wrist?

The measurements that matter

At 43.2 mm across and 15.3 mm thick, the SLGC007 has a substantial presence. Its 51.5 mm lug-to-lug length is especially important: the lugs can extend beyond the flatter part of a smaller wrist even when the diameter itself seems manageable.

The 154 g weight is moderate for a large chronograph, helped by the titanium case, but it remains a sizable watch because of its height and footprint. The 23 mm band width also gives the watch a broad visual base.

Who is likely to find it comfortable?

  • It suits wearers who prefer prominent sports-chronograph proportions and have enough wrist surface for a roughly 51.5 mm span.
  • It may feel oversized on smaller or sharply tapered wrists, particularly under a shirt cuff.
  • Try the actual watch, not only a 43.2 mm diameter comparison: lug shape, thickness and the strap or bracelet’s flexibility change perceived fit.

Water, magnetic and daily-use protections

The 10-bar water-resistance rating supports everyday exposure and surface-water activities when the crown and pushers are properly secured, but it is not a blanket guarantee for every kind of diving. The screw-down crown helps maintain the case seal.

Grand Seiko rates the watch for 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance. That helps with common magnetic exposure, but strong magnetic fields can still affect a mechanical movement. If timing changes suddenly, have the watch checked rather than assuming the rating has been exceeded.

Price and where to buy

Official regional listings demonstrate why the SLGC007 does not have one universal price. Grand Seiko’s Japanese online boutique lists ¥1,980,000 including tax and states a five-year warranty. The official Hong Kong boutique lists HK$109,800. These figures apply to those regional listings; currency conversion, local tax treatment, availability and warranty coverage can differ elsewhere.

For a purchase, start with a Grand Seiko boutique or authorized retailer in your market. Confirm that the seller is authorized, ask whether the quoted price includes local tax, verify the serial and warranty documentation, and check that the warranty period and service channel apply in your country. Online marketplace listings require additional checks for seller authenticity, regional warranty and actual stock.

What to compare with other luxury automatic chronographs

The most useful comparison is not diameter alone. Evaluate the following items together:

  • Fit: diameter, lug-to-lug length, thickness, weight and the flexibility of the supplied band or bracelet.
  • Movement: beat rate, reserve, published accuracy range and the maker’s testing standard.
  • Chronograph function: counter capacities, legibility, pusher feel and tachymeter layout.
  • Materials: titanium versus steel, ceramic bezel construction and sapphire-crystal treatment.
  • Protection: water-resistance rating, magnetic resistance and crown design.
  • Ownership: local price after tax, authorized-dealer status, warranty terms and service access.

Verdict

The SLGC007 Tentagraph is a technically ambitious Grand Seiko chronograph for buyers who want a high-beat mechanical movement, a roughly three-day reserve and distinctive Mount Iwate-inspired design. Its 43.2 mm by 51.5 mm footprint and 15.3 mm thickness are not incidental details: wrist fit should be confirmed before purchase. Regional pricing and warranty terms also require checking with the boutique or authorized seller serving your market.
