Its power-reserve indicator sits on the movement side, leaving the dial uncluttered. Grand Seiko introduced it as an Elegance Collection model inspired by Lake Suwa’s winter ice and the Omiwatari legend.
What makes the SBGY007 an Omiwatari?
Omiwatari is a Japanese tradition associated with Lake Suwa: a ridge that forms across the frozen lake is said to mark the path where the gods walk over the ice. Grand Seiko draws on that imagery for the SBGY007’s pale-blue dial, whose raised texture evokes ridges in the frozen surface. The legend is cultural inspiration, not a scientific account of how the ice forms.
Grand Seiko describes the blue seconds hand gliding across the textured dial. The effect is a restrained interpretation of the lake rather than a literal scene: the cool color and surface carry the theme while the hands and markers keep the display legible. The SBGY007 is part of the Elegance Collection.
Case dimensions and wearing considerations
Grand Seiko lists a stainless-steel case measuring 38.5 mm in diameter, 43.7 mm from lug to lug and 10.2 mm thick. Band width is 19 mm. Those numbers describe a relatively compact, thin profile on paper; actual fit depends on wrist shape and strap choice.

The official descriptions do not support treating this as a dive or swim watch, or converting the water-resistance language into a depth rating. The case is paired with a crocodile-leather strap; a replacement strap should be 19 mm wide, with clasp fit and condition checked separately.
Manual Spring Drive caliber 9R31
Inside is Grand Seiko’s hand-winding Spring Drive caliber 9R31. The manufacturer specifies an approximately 72-hour power reserve and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month, equivalent in its specification to ±1 second per day. These are Grand Seiko figures, not results from an independent accuracy test.
Grand Seiko attributes the reserve to a Dual Spring Barrel, which houses two mainsprings arranged in parallel. The reserve indicator is on the movement side rather than the dial, and the exhibition case back lets the wearer see the movement finishing and indicator. That layout preserves the dial’s visual simplicity while keeping the reserve information available when the watch is turned over.

Launch date, price and availability
Grand Seiko Thailand announced a planned July 2021 launch. That is the model’s launch timing, not a statement of present-day availability.
The Japanese Grand Seiko Boutique Online listing displayed a tax-included price of ¥1,155,000 and an out-of-stock notice when it was checked for this article. This is a Japan-specific listing and captured stock status, not a live 2026 quote or a global price. Prices and availability vary by market; consult the relevant regional listing for current terms.
Is the SBGY007 the right kind of Spring Drive watch?
The SBGY007 is most distinctive for the combination of a textured, pale-blue dial, compact listed dimensions and hand-wound Spring Drive mechanics. It may suit someone who prefers a clear dial without a front-facing power-reserve display and values the ritual of manual winding. Someone prioritizing a stated depth rating or an automatic movement should compare those specifications against other models rather than infer them from the Omiwatari design.

For a useful comparison with another watch, check diameter, lug-to-lug length and thickness alongside winding type, dial treatment, reserve-indicator position, stated accuracy and power reserve, water-resistance wording, strap width and regional price. The SBGY007’s specifications alone do not establish that it is superior to alternatives.
