The smoked sapphire dial on the Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie does more than change the watch’s appearance: it lets parts of the repeater mechanism and movement show through while keeping them partly veiled. The best-documented hands-on example is the 2023 pink-gold and black-ceramic reference 26395NR.OO.D002KB.01. Audemars Piguet’s currently reviewed product page, however, is for a separate white-gold reference, 26395BC.OO.D009CR.01, so the two versions’ specifications should not be conflated.
What the smoked sapphire dial reveals
On the 2023 pink-gold watch, the smoked sapphire gives the dial a shifting degree of transparency. Monochrome’s hands-on report describes the view as dependent on light and angle: from some positions the dial can look nearly solid, while closer inspection reveals gears and finishing beneath it. The result is not an entirely open-worked display; the tint screens as well as exposes, making the movement feel glimpsed rather than fully presented. That visual restraint suits a complication whose operation is otherwise hidden. The repeater is activated with a case lever, and the watch’s hands have no lume. Monochrome describes the chime as the way to hear the time in darkness; that is an account of how the complication can be used, not a guarantee of audibility in every setting.
How the Supersonnerie case is intended to work
Phillips’ catalogue description explains the Supersonnerie construction as an outer caseback with apertures over an inner caseback, creating a resonance chamber. The same catalogue describes a redesigned striking regulator intended to reduce unwanted mechanical sounds, plus a safety feature that prevents the time from being set while the chime is active. These are explanations of design and intent from the auction catalogue, not results of independent acoustic testing. The reviewed sources provide no measured sound-pressure figure or controlled comparison with other minute repeaters. Phillips’ catalogue entry concerns a different white-gold reference, 26395BC.OO.D002KB.01.

The 2023 pink-gold watch: dimensions and movement
The following specifications belong to the hands-on pink-gold reference 26395NR.OO.D002KB.01, not automatically to the white-gold references:
- Case: 41 mm diameter and 13.6 mm thick, with a black ceramic middle and pink-gold bezel, lugs and caseback.
- Crystal and dial: double-curved, glare-proof sapphire crystal over a smoked sapphire dial.
- Water resistance: 20 m, as reported for this reference.
- Movement: hand-wound calibre 2953, measuring 30 mm across and 6 mm thick; it runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 72-hour power reserve.
- Construction and functions: 362 parts and 32 jewels; hours, minutes, small seconds and minute repeater.
- Strap and clasp: black rubber-coated textile strap with a pink-gold folding clasp.

What the hands-on view does—and does not—tell you
The smoked sapphire makes the movement part of the watch’s visual experience without making the dial uniformly transparent. Its appeal, as described in the hands-on report, lies in that balance: mechanism becomes visible as conditions allow, then recedes into the tint. The sources establish the construction explanation and a wearer-facing description of the chime, but do not establish an independently measured acoustic advantage. A claim that this watch is louder than another repeater, or a numerical loudness figure, would go beyond the available evidence.
