A chronograph GMT tied to Cortina’s Olympic history
The Cortina 1956 Chrono GMT collection commemorates the Winter Olympic Games held in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956. Its defining combination is a chronograph, a 12-hour GMT function and a day/night indicator. The available coverage identifies the GMT as a 12-hour function; it does not establish an independently adjustable traveler’s GMT.
Fratello’s Dave Sergeant examined the Bronze-dial version in a hands-on article published May 31, 2024. Echo/Neutra’s official product page describes the Black & Sand version. Specifications below are assigned to the variant and source that report them.
What Fratello reported about the Bronze version
Fratello reports a 40 mm diameter, 46 mm lug-to-lug length and 14.8 mm thickness including the crystal. The case is 316L stainless steel, with a ceramic bezel insert, box-shaped sapphire crystal and screw-in steel caseback. The review describes the movement as a manually wound Sellita SW532M b elaboré, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, 21 jewels and a 62-hour power reserve.

The Bronze version’s functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, central chronograph seconds, a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour chronograph counter, and a 12-hour GMT linked to a day/night indicator.
For the reviewed configuration, Fratello says an Italian Alpine calf-leather strap and a rubber tropic strap were included; a steel bracelet was available as an upgrade. That is distinct from the strap listed on the official Black & Sand page.

Black & Sand: official specifications
Echo/Neutra’s official Black & Sand listing calls the watch Swiss made and mechanical. Its listed movement is a Sellita SW532M b elaboré, with 21 jewels, a 4 Hz (28,800-vph) frequency and a 62-hour power reserve. The page specifies a 40 mm 316L stainless-steel case, 46 mm lug-to-lug length and 14.8 mm thickness including the crystal (12.7 mm without it). It also lists a 20 mm lug width and 100 m water resistance.

The official page lists hours, minutes, GMT and central chronograph seconds, small seconds at 9, a 30-minute counter at 12, a 12-hour counter at 6, and a day/night indicator at 9. These are the Black & Sand listing’s details; they should not be treated as independently confirmed Bronze-version specifications.

How the telemeter bezel works
A telemeter estimates the distance to a visible event that produces a sound. For the example given by Echo/Neutra, start the chronograph when you see lightning and stop it when you hear thunder. Read the elapsed time against the telemeter scale to estimate the distance. This is a timing aid, not a precision measuring instrument.
The watch’s chronograph handles elapsed-time measurement, while the GMT and day/night indication help distinguish a second 12-hour time cycle. The available sources do not describe the GMT’s adjustment procedure, so they do not support assuming it can be set independently for a traveler’s local time.

Dimensions and fit to consider
At 40 mm across and 46 mm lug-to-lug, the reported case dimensions give a useful first comparison with other watches. The 14.8 mm thickness includes the crystal; the official Black & Sand listing gives 12.7 mm without it. A box-shaped crystal contributes to the full-height measurement, so comparing thickness figures requires checking whether each includes the crystal.
For the Black & Sand version, 100 m water resistance and a screw-down crown are listed by Echo/Neutra. Those specifications do not establish a specific activity rating or replace following the maker’s use and maintenance guidance.

Price and availability depend on variant and date
In its May 31, 2024 article, Fratello reported prices for the Bronze version of €1,970 including VAT, US$1,890, and £1,375 excluding local taxes. It said the watch was available on Echo/Neutra’s official website at that time; that report is not confirmation of current stock. The official Black & Sand product page displays €1,970, a separate listing and observation. Check the brand’s page for current stock, destination-specific shipping and tax treatment.
What to compare before choosing a chronograph GMT
For a useful comparison with another watch in this category, check the details that affect wear and use rather than relying on the shared “chronograph GMT” label:
- Case: diameter, lug-to-lug length and thickness, including whether the crystal is counted.
- Movement: caliber, winding type, frequency and power reserve.
- GMT: whether it is a 12-hour or 24-hour display and how it is adjusted; do not infer a traveler’s setting mechanism from the GMT label alone.
- Chronograph: counter layout and the elapsed-time range it can measure.
- Bezel: telemeter scale versus other timing or distance functions.
- Configuration: included strap or bracelet, available upgrades and exact dial variant.
- Purchase terms: price currency, tax treatment, shipping destination and live availability.
The available coverage supports these points for the Cortina 1956 Chrono GMT, but does not establish a specific competitor for a direct head-to-head verdict.
