One measurement needs confirmation before buying: Makina lists a 45 mm lug-to-lug length, while a Fratello specification table gives 48 mm.
What is the Makina Mephisto_III GMT?
Makina presents the Mephisto_III as an evolution of its original Mephisto, the brand’s debut model, launched in 2017. The third generation adds a GMT complication and, according to Fratello, is the first Mephisto with an integrated bracelet. It is a distinctive alternative to more conventional GMT designs, but buyers should weigh its no-date dial, unusual proportions on paper and limited availability alongside its design.
The manufacturer’s blue-model listing describes a multifaceted dial under sapphire crystal with triple-layer anti-reflective coating, raised metallic indices, faceted alpha hands, and a red GMT hand paired with a red 24-hour scale. The 316L stainless-steel case has a screw-down crown and exhibition case back; the integrated solid-steel bracelet is specified with an H-link design and butterfly clasp by Fratello. Is the Makina Mephisto III GMT a true traveler’s GMT?
It has the defining traveler-friendly adjustment described in the sources: the local 12-hour hand moves independently in one-hour steps, while the 24-hour GMT hand continues to indicate a second time zone against the 24-hour scale. That arrangement lets a wearer adjust local time in hourly increments without resetting the GMT indication. Makina and Fratello identify the movement as the Miyota 9075; Fratello characterizes it as a flyer-style GMT. Published movement details include automatic winding, manual winding, hacking seconds, 24 jewels, a 4 Hz frequency and a 42-hour power reserve.

There is no date display. That does not change how the local-hour adjustment works, but it is a practical omission for anyone who wants a date while traveling. Weppelink called it a missed opportunity for his preferred traveler’s watch: “In my opinion, this is a missed opportunity because I prefer my GMT to have a date as a proper traveler’s watch.” That is his preference, not a requirement for a traveler-style GMT.
How does the Makina Mephisto III GMT wear?
Weppelink reported wearing the watch for a week. He found the 38 mm case comfortable and praised the bracelet’s sturdy feel and machining. His account also highlights the dial’s radial triangular facets: their texture and color shift with viewing angle and natural light, giving the watch much of its visual character.

His main legibility reservation was the small red GMT hand. He said it did not stop him from reading the time, but buyers who prioritize an immediately prominent second-time-zone hand should examine the dial closely. These are one reviewer’s reported observations, not a fit test across different wrists.
What to consider before buying
- Confirm the fit dimensions. The 45 mm versus 48 mm lug-to-lug discrepancy is material for a compact watch, especially if you judge fit by how far the case spans your wrist. Ask Makina to confirm the figure for the exact model before ordering.
- Decide whether the no-date layout suits you. The dial stays uncluttered, but it will not provide a calendar date.
- Check the GMT hand in person or in clear product imagery. The reviewer found it small, even though he could read it.
- Factor in integrated-bracelet constraints. The design is part of the watch’s identity; do not assume conventional strap interchangeability or a particular aftermarket fit unless the maker confirms compatible parts.
- Consider the water-resistance rating in context. Makina states 100 m, but the specification alone does not establish suitability for every aquatic activity; follow the maker’s guidance and ensure the crown is secured.
Price, availability, warranty and returns
Price and stock information are time-sensitive. Fratello reported a US$850 price in its 2025 review. When checked in 2026, Makina’s blue-model product page listed US$950 and marked it “Out of Stock.” Neither figure guarantees a current offer or availability. Check Makina’s listing directly before making a purchase.

Makina states a 24-month warranty for non-manmade defects and movement defects. Its page says service requires the complete box set and shipment to one of its listed service locations in Hong Kong or Manila. The page’s terms state that returns, exchanges and refunds are not accepted, and international customers may owe import duties and taxes in their destination country. These terms and service arrangements can change; confirm them with Makina before paying, particularly if you are ordering from outside the Philippines.

The Mephisto_III GMT is most compelling for someone who wants a compact, integrated-bracelet watch with a visually distinctive dial and genuinely independent local-hour adjustment. It is less suitable for a buyer who requires a date, wants a larger and more obvious GMT hand, or needs a verified lug-to-lug measurement before assessing fit. The evidence here consists of published specifications and one reviewer’s hands-on account, not a direct comparison with competing GMT watches.
