It also brings 10 ATM water resistance and a choice between a rotating 12-hour bezel and a fixed tachymeter. The compact diameter is balanced by a 47 mm lug-to-lug span and 13.4 mm total thickness, so it is small across the wrist but not especially thin.
What changed in the Skymaster 38 MKIII?
Maen describes the MKIII as a redesign for the Sellita SW510Mb TOP Grade movement. The most consequential change is how the watch is powered: the MKIII is manual-wind, rather than using the ETA 2894-2 modular automatic found in the earlier generation. Maen lists approximately 56–62 hours of power reserve; Fratello and Monochrome describe it as roughly 63 hours and about 60 hours, respectively. In practical terms, expect roughly 60 hours between full winds, with the exact figure depending on which published specification you follow. Maen’s Skymaster 38 collection specifications provide the official movement details.
The listed movement specifications include 23 jewels, a 4 Hz beat rate (28,800 vibrations per hour), Incabloc shock protection and regulation in five positions. The dial has no date. Manual winding makes the chronograph’s mechanical character part of everyday ownership, but it also means winding the watch is a regular task rather than something an automatic rotor handles while it is worn.
How does the 38 mm case wear?
Maen lists a 38 mm diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 13.4 mm thickness, with the thickness including the box-domed sapphire and caseback. The relatively short diameter is therefore only one part of the fit picture: the watch spans 47 mm across the wrist and has a noticeable vertical profile.

In his October 8, 2023 Fratello hands-on, Thor Svaboe called it “substantial for a 38mm watch.” He found the curved lugs helped it sit comfortably, while also describing the 47 mm span as generous for this diameter. Those are reviewer impressions rather than a universal fit guarantee; wrist shape and preferred proportions matter. The 13.4 mm figure should also be read as total thickness, not a case-only measurement. Fratello’s hands-on review discusses the case and its on-wrist feel.
MCR or MCT: which bezel is right?
The two versions share the MKIII’s core chronograph concept but use their bezels for different jobs. The MCR has a 60-click, bidirectional ceramic bezel marked for 12 hours; the MCT has a fixed tachymeter bezel. Choose by the scale you are more likely to use, not just by the look of the bezel.

A tachymeter is useful only when the timing and distance conditions make its scale applicable; it is not a general-purpose speed display. The rotating 12-hour bezel is more directly useful for keeping a second time zone in view. Maen’s official description of the MCT is on its Skymaster 38 MKIII.MCT page.
Dial, crystal and reviewer observations
The MKIII’s vintage-oriented design uses a box-domed sapphire crystal, recessed chronograph registers and a textured dial. Monochrome highlights the recessed pie-pan minute track and contrasting subdials; Fratello praises the texture, register depth, lume and case finishing. These are assessments of the reviewers’ watches, not independent guarantees of how every dial or production example will appear.

Fratello’s reviewer also noted that the seconds track was not visible straight-on under the box crystal, an optical trade-off associated with viewing the dial through the domed crystal. The watch he handled was a prototype, and he said production finishing was expected to be more defined. He reported an average of +7 seconds per day for that particular prototype; this is a single sample’s result, not a published accuracy specification or a promise for production watches.

These are Maen’s current published specifications for its US M6.1.1 product page and collection as accessed October 4, 2026. A 10 ATM rating is the stated water-resistance rating; follow Maen’s guidance for use and care rather than treating the number alone as a guarantee for any particular activity. The brand traces the Skymaster name to the Douglas DC-4 and says the watch pays tribute to the aircraft used on KLM’s Amsterdam–New York service, which Maen dates to May 21, 1946. That is the maker’s inspiration and historical framing. Maen’s M6.1.1 product page lists the case and strap specifications.

Strap fit and buying details
The described configuration comes on an FKM rubber strap with a 20 mm width tapering to 18 mm. If you are shopping for a third-party strap, “20 mm FKM rubber watch strap” is a reasonable starting search, but width alone does not establish fit: check the actual lug-end width, spring-bar arrangement, strap shape and attachment compatibility before ordering. A replacement strap should not be assumed to be an official Maen part or to change the watch’s water resistance.
Price depends on date, region and tax treatment. Fratello reported a reduced launch price of EUR 1,595 excluding VAT and a normal price of EUR 1,679 excluding VAT in its October 2023 article; it also mentioned a Watchfinder collaboration at EUR 1,800 excluding VAT. Monochrome later reported a starting price of EUR 2,099 including taxes, but its article’s publication date is not confirmed here. These are historical, non-like-for-like references, not current quotes. Check Maen’s collection page for current regional price and stock, and confirm the destination-specific shipping, duties and two-year warranty terms on the product page before buying.
