Identify your exact Moto 360 generation before buying or removing a band. The original Moto 360 uses custom-designed bands and may require professional service; the 2019 model uses rear release buttons and lug adapters; other versions may use different spring-bar or shaped-end designs. A band advertised only by width—such as “22 mm”—is not automatically compatible.
Identify your watch before touching the band
Use the case, documentation and attachment hardware together. If available, check Settings > System > About (the exact menu can vary by firmware), then confirm against the packaging, purchase record or case markings.

Check compatibility before buying
- Match the exact generation and, for the 2nd Gen, the 42 mm or 46 mm case.
- Confirm the band width and its end-link shape, lug depth and clearance around buttons, sensors and the caseback.
- Check whether the listing includes the correct spring bars, shaped ends or lug adapters.
- For the 2019 model, confirm that the replacement works with the required adapters; Motorola says adapters may have been included in the box.
- Treat “universal” as a width description only. A standard band can be wrong for a recessed, notched or proprietary attachment.
- Prefer a model-specific returnable band. Poorly shaped metal end links can scratch the case or stress the lugs.
Tools and safe setup
- Soft microfiber cloth and bright lighting.
- Clean, non-carpeted work surface with a small parts tray or magnetic dish.
- Model-appropriate spring-bar tool or narrow tool for a confirmed quick-release design.
- Link-removal tool and small jeweler’s screwdriver or pin pusher when resizing a compatible bracelet.
Cover the watch face, keep fingers clear of spring-bar ends, and never pry against the display or ceramic case. Do not force an end link, twist a spring bar sideways under tension, or pull hard on a partially seated band.
Change a band with a slide-switch quick release
These steps describe the slide-switch design documented for newer moto watch products, not every Moto 360 generation.

Remove the band
- Turn the watch or band so the small release switch is visible.
- Slide the switch toward the middle of the band and hold it.
- Angle the band away from the watch, then remove it carefully.
Install a soft, leather or metal band
- Place one end of the spring bar in the indentation in the watch lug.
- Hold the release switch toward the band’s center.
- Push the band inward toward the case.
- Release the switch only after the band is fully seated. A click should indicate engagement.
- Inspect both ends before wearing the watch.
Install a silicone band
- Keep the finished side facing the same direction as the watch face.
- Insert one spring-bar end into the lug indentation.
- Maintain a smooth curve between band and lug while holding the switch.
- Push inward, release the switch, and confirm the click. Positioning may take more than one attempt.

Change a 2019 Moto 360 band with lug adapters
Remove the original band
- Place the watch face-down on a soft, clean cloth.
- Locate the rear Band Release button(s).
- Press the button(s) and remove the band without twisting the case or prying against the screen.
Fit the replacement
- Verify that the replacement band fits the lug adapters.
- Attach both band ends to the adapters.
- Align the adapter pins with the corresponding holes in the watch.
- Press the adapter into place until both ends are fixed and the joint is even and flush.
- Pull gently on each side and flex the band through its normal range before wearing it.
Motorola’s guide notes that adapters may have been included and that pictured bands may not be supplied: 2019 Moto 360 support.
Original Moto 360: when not to DIY
Motorola says the original model requires specialized tools, uses custom-designed bands and may be damaged by standard replacements. It recommends an authorized repair facility or skilled watch-repair service; damage from an improper replacement or non-Motorola band may not be covered. See Motorola support and the original guide.

- Identify the exact model and attachment design.
- Buy a replacement explicitly made for that model; compare its end shape with the original.
- For a metal, tightly recessed, custom-shaped, damaged or stuck band, take the watch and replacement to a jeweler or watch-repair shop.
- Ask the technician to inspect lug and spring-bar seating before returning the watch.
Resize a compatible metal bracelet
Resizing links is separate from changing the strap and needs a link-removal tool.
- Measure your wrist and decide how many links to remove. Remove links symmetrically where possible so the clasp stays centered.
- Remove the bracelet from the watch.
- Find removable links marked with arrows and place the bracelet flat on the tool.
- Align the tool pin with the indentation at the indicated end of the link pin or spring bar.
- Turn the screw to push the pin out slightly, then pull it out gently. Repeat for the adjacent link and detach the unwanted section.
- Rejoin the remaining links, insert the narrow end of the pin through the aligned holes and press it until both ends are fully seated.
Do not hammer the bracelet, drive a pin against the arrows, or keep increasing force when a pin will not move. Preserve removed links and pins. Motorola describes this process and recommends a jeweler if assistance is needed: link-removal instructions.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | Safe response |

| Band will not click | Spring bar misaligned, wrong orientation, incorrect size or an end link that is too thick. | Remove it, inspect both ends, confirm the bar length and realign one end at a time. Never force the case. |
| One side fits but the other does not | Wrong generation or case size, or adapters are required. | Stop; do not bend the band or enlarge the lug opening. |
| Band pulls loose under light tension | Only one spring-bar end engaged. | Do not wear it. Remove and reseat or replace the hardware. |
| Spring bar is lost | Part ejected under tension. | Do not substitute a random bar. Match its length, diameter and end style, preferably with a repair professional. |
| Metal pin will not move | Wrong direction, misaligned tool or a different retaining system. | Stop applying force and use a jeweler. |
| Band scratches the case or presses a button | Incorrect end-link geometry. | Remove it immediately and obtain a model-specific replacement. |

Final security check
- Both ends are fully seated with no visible gap.
- The spring bar or adapter does not move away from the case.
- The band does not touch buttons, crown, sensors or charging contacts.
- A gentle pull on each side and normal flexing do not loosen it.
- Removed pins, links and adapters are stored safely.
If any check fails, remove the band and stop. For the original Moto 360, custom attachments, damaged lugs, stubborn spring bars or uncertain compatibility, professional watch repair is the lower-risk option.
