Samsung’s rumored premium watch and Galaxy Z Flip6 appeared in U.S. FCC filings on May 29, 2024; the Galaxy Z Fold6 followed in an update two days later. The filings identified U.S.-oriented model numbers and radio features, but did not confirm the watch’s name or the devices’ launch dates. Samsung later announced the watch as the Galaxy Watch Ultra and launched all three products in July 2024.
What the FCC filings showed
Droid Life reported on May 29, 2024, that a Samsung wearable with model number SM-L705 and FCC ID A3LSML705, along with the U.S. Galaxy Z Flip6 model SM-F741U (FCC ID A3LSMF741U), had appeared in FCC records. Its May 31 update added the Galaxy Z Fold6 under model number SM-F956U. Droid Life’s report and update covered the filings as prelaunch developments, not as a Samsung product announcement.
What the watch filing revealed—and what it did not
The SM-L705 filing reportedly classified the device as a “Smart Wearable” and indicated LTE support across major U.S. cellular bands, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi and wireless charging. That is useful evidence about connectivity, but it does not establish the watch’s battery capacity, processor, health sensors, display, materials, durability rating or software features.
The product’s name was unsettled in May 2024. It was variously described as Galaxy Watch 7 Pro, Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra or Galaxy Watch X; the FCC model number did not confirm any retail name. Samsung ultimately launched it as the Galaxy Watch Ultra, without the “7.” Samsung later described the 47mm watch in Titanium Gray, Titanium White and Titanium Silver in its global availability announcement.

What the Galaxy Z Flip6 filing revealed
The SM-F741U filing pointed to a U.S. Galaxy Z Flip6 and supported 5G connectivity, including mid-band and millimeter-wave support, as well as Wi-Fi 6E, NFC and wireless charging. These are radio and charging details, not a complete specification leak. The filing alone did not establish the phone’s cameras, battery, memory, storage, display specifications, retail price or software features.
Fold6 appears in the May 31 update
The update added the U.S.-oriented Galaxy Z Fold6 model SM-F956U. Its appearance was further evidence that Samsung was preparing the foldable for the U.S. market, but it did not independently establish an announcement or sale date. The Fold6 was not part of the original May 29 report; it was added two days later.

What FCC approval means for a buyer
For radio-equipped consumer devices intended for the United States, FCC filings are a meaningful sign of market preparation. Depending on what is included in a filing, records can disclose a model number, supported radios, labels, test photos and other hardware details. They are not equivalent to a product launch or a full specification sheet.
- A filing is not a release date. FCC appearance does not mean a product is available to buy, or that retail availability is imminent.
- It does not settle branding. The watch’s final name came from Samsung, not its FCC model number.
- U.S. identifiers are not universal specifications. SM-F741U and SM-F956U identify U.S.-oriented models; other regional versions can differ in bands, modem behavior or configurations.
- Radio support is not a carrier guarantee. Listed capabilities do not by themselves establish certification or identical service on every carrier. Samsung notes that SIM, eSIM and availability can vary by software version, region and carrier in its foldables announcement.
- Charging support is not a charging specification. Wireless charging appearing in a filing does not establish charging speed or whether a charger is included.
Samsung’s July 2024 announcement resolved the story
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6 on July 10, 2024, with preorders opening that day and general availability beginning July 24. The company’s launch announcement supplied the consumer specifications the filings could not: the Flip6 has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate and a 3.4-inch cover display; the Fold6 has a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s July 10 announcement is the source for those specifications and preorder timing.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra was announced alongside the Galaxy Watch7, foldables and other devices at Galaxy Unpacked. Samsung said the watches and phones would become globally available starting July 24 in its availability announcement. Global availability did not mean every color, network band or configuration was identical in every market.
