Yes. The Galaxy Watch4 can download Spotify playlists and albums for offline listening, but you need Spotify Premium for music downloads. Install Spotify on the watch, download your music over Wi-Fi, then pair Bluetooth headphones directly with the watch. Spotify’s downloads stay inside the Spotify app; they are not MP3 files you can copy to another player.
What you need
- A Galaxy Watch4 running the Wear OS version of Spotify. Watch4 models use Wear OS; older Galaxy Watch models through Watch3 and Watch Active2 used Tizen and follow a different Spotify app path. Spotify’s Wear OS guidance lists Wear OS 2.2 / Android 9 or higher as supported, subject to device compatibility.
- An active Spotify Premium account for offline music downloads. Music downloads are available on eligible Premium plans, subject to plan terms and regional availability. Free accounts can download podcasts but not music. Spotify’s offline-download information
- Wi-Fi on the watch while downloading, and enough available watch storage.
- Bluetooth headphones or another Bluetooth audio device paired with the watch for reliable phone-free listening.
- An internet connection at least once every 30 days so Spotify can sync the account and keep downloads available.
The Watch4 was sold in Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE versions. Either can play a completed download offline; Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity is needed to stream without downloading. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch4 specifications list 16 GB of internal storage, but that space is shared with the operating system, apps, and other data.
Install Spotify on the Galaxy Watch4
- Wake and unlock the watch.
- Open the Google Play Store on the watch and search for Spotify.
- Tap Install, then open Spotify when installation finishes.
- Sign in with the Spotify account you plan to use. Depending on the app version and account state, the watch may offer an account already signed in on your phone, phone-assisted pairing, a displayed code to enter in a browser, or another sign-in method.
Spotify says to install its Wear OS app from the watch’s Play Store and log in. Samsung also documents this installation path in its Galaxy Watch Spotify instructions. Screens and sign-in options can vary by app release, phone, and watch.
Download a playlist or album
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi. Confirm Spotify is signed in to the Premium account that has access to the music.
- Open Spotify on the watch and find the playlist or album you want. The route through the library, home, or browse area can differ by app version.
- Open the playlist or album and choose its Download control or download icon.
- Keep the watch connected to Wi-Fi until the download finishes. For a large download, putting the watch on its charger can help avoid a low-battery interruption.
- Reopen the playlist or album and check that Spotify shows it as downloaded before relying on it away from your phone.
Spotify confirms that Wear OS Premium users can download playlists and albums, but its support instructions do not guarantee a single button location or label for every Watch4 app version. If you want one song, add it to a playlist and download that playlist rather than relying on a standalone-track download control.

- Rotating Bezel Navigation: Physical rotating bezel allows precise and intuitive control of apps and menus.
Pair headphones with the watch
- On the watch, open Settings and go to its Bluetooth or connections menu.
- Put the headphones into pairing mode.
- Select the headphones from the watch’s available Bluetooth devices and complete pairing.
- If Spotify asks where to play audio, choose the headphones paired with the watch rather than the phone.
Pairing headphones only with the phone is not enough for dependable phone-free playback. Samsung notes that Wear OS Galaxy watches may require Bluetooth audio and that speaker behavior varies by model. Use headphones connected directly to the watch rather than assuming the watch speaker will work.
Test offline playback before leaving
- Verify the playlist or album has finished downloading in Spotify.
- Disconnect the phone from the watch or leave it out of Bluetooth range. You can also briefly turn off Wi-Fi to check that playback does not depend on a live connection.
- Open Spotify on the watch, open the downloaded playlist or album, and tap Play.
- Confirm sound comes through the headphones paired to the watch.
A playlist visible in your library is not necessarily downloaded. The completed download state and this phone-disconnected playback test are the useful checks before a run or trip.

What works with Free and Premium?
| Use | Free account | Premium account | Phone or internet needed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Download Spotify music to the Watch4 for offline listening | No | Yes, for eligible playlists and albums | Internet is needed to download; neither phone nor internet is needed during playback after download. |
| Download podcasts | Spotify says podcast downloads are available to free users | Yes | Internet is needed to download; downloaded playback can be offline. |
| Control Spotify playing on the phone | Possible, subject to account and app features | Possible | The phone generally needs to be nearby and connected; the phone’s playback needs internet if it is streaming. |
| Stream Spotify directly from the watch | Availability and playback features depend on the account and service configuration | Availability depends on connectivity and account features | No phone if the watch has a working Wi-Fi or cellular connection; internet is required. |
Spotify Premium’s U.S. page showed a one-month introductory offer followed by $12.99 per month when checked around August 18, 2026; eligibility and terms apply, and offers can change. Check Spotify’s U.S. Premium page for current pricing. The subscription matters here because free Spotify does not unlock offline music downloads.

The download control is missing
- Check that Spotify is signed in to the account with active Premium access.
- Open a playlist or album. Spotify’s Wear OS documentation describes downloads for those collections, not a guaranteed individual-track workflow.
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi and update Spotify from the watch’s Play Store.
- Restart Spotify and the watch, then try a small playlist. If the control remains missing, sign out and back in or remove and reinstall the app.
- Consider whether the playlist or album is available in your region.
The download is stuck or fails
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection and keep the watch charged.
- For an initial test, leave Spotify open while a small playlist downloads.
- Check available watch storage and remove unused apps or old downloads if space is low.
- Try a smaller playlist or album, then restart the watch and retry.
Spotify recommends having at least 1 GB of free storage for downloads; actual space use varies with audio quality and content length. That is free space to aim for, not a promise that the Watch4’s advertised 16 GB is all available to Spotify. Spotify’s offline-download information

Music plays through the phone, or there is no sound
In Spotify’s device picker, choose the Watch4 or the headphones paired to it, not the phone. Samsung lists possible output choices such as the phone, watch, Bluetooth devices, and—in some cases—Spotify Connect devices. If there is still no sound, check that the headphones are connected to the watch in its Bluetooth settings and that they are not only paired with the phone. Samsung’s Spotify audio-output guidance
Playback stops when the phone is left behind
The content may only have been saved to your library, not fully downloaded, or Spotify may be playing through the phone. Reconnect the watch to Wi-Fi, confirm the playlist’s completed download state, select the watch-connected headphones as the output, and repeat the offline test.

Downloads are unavailable after being offline for a long time
Spotify requires the account to reconnect online at least once every 30 days to sync the library and keep downloads available. Connect the watch or phone to the internet and allow Spotify to synchronize. Spotify’s offline-download information
Quick Recap
Limits to know
- Downloads are not MP3 files. They are Spotify offline content for playback inside Spotify; they cannot be exported or used in another music player. This follows from Spotify describing the feature as in-app offline listening, not file transfer. Spotify’s offline-download information
- Phone-free playback does not mean setup-free or permanently offline. You need internet for installation, sign-in, and downloading, and Spotify requires the 30-day online sync described above.
- Wi-Fi and LTE serve different purposes. A Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Watch4 can download on Wi-Fi and then play offline, but cannot stream away from known Wi-Fi without the phone. An LTE model may stream over a mobile connection if service is active; a carrier plan may be required. Downloads avoid using mobile data during playback.
- UI labels can change. Spotify’s screens and download controls may differ by app version, so follow the function of the control rather than expecting an exact icon position or swipe sequence.
