To mute sound or vibration but keep notifications available to read, open the Google Pixel Watch app on your Android phone and go to Notifications; choose the mute setting shown there. To block one app, use Notifications > App Notifications. For temporary silence, swipe down from the watch face and choose a mode such as Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, or Theater. These controls do different things: muting alerts is not the same as hiding notifications or silencing your phone.
Mute notification sound or vibration without blocking alerts
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app on the paired Android phone. Swipe up if needed to reach the settings area.
- Tap Notifications.
- Choose the available mute setting and select the sound or vibration behavior you want.
This is the right choice if you want notifications to remain available on the watch but do not want an audible or haptic interruption. A notification may still appear in the list or light the screen. Google’s current instructions describe a mute setting on the Notifications page; the exact label may vary by app version. Google’s Pixel Watch notification instructions
Block notifications from a particular app
- In the Google Pixel Watch app, tap Notifications.
- Tap App Notifications.
- Select the watch app or phone app you want to change, then turn its watch notifications off.
Use this for a lasting fix when only one or two apps are disruptive. It stops that app’s notifications from appearing on the watch, but does not necessarily turn off the app’s notifications on your phone. To change the phone itself, use Phone Settings > Notifications > App notifications, then select the app. Google’s Pixel phone notification settings

If you have an earlier Pixel Watch model or do not see this control, change the app’s watch notifications in the phone app instead. Google’s instructions for managing Pixel Watch notifications
Silence notifications temporarily with a watch mode
Swipe down from the top of the watch face and tap the mode you need. The available controls and labels can vary by model and software, so use the mode shown on your watch rather than expecting every watch to offer identical options.
Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb broadly silences notifications and incoming calls. Press and hold its control to adjust exceptions such as priority callers, repeat callers, alarms, and media sounds. Google’s current help page lists this feature for Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3; availability and controls may differ on other models or software versions. It is useful when you want temporary quiet but may still need selected alerts. Google’s Pixel Watch mode details

Bedtime
Bedtime mode is designed for sleep, not just daytime muting. It disables the Always-on Display and notifications, as well as the screen, tilt-to-wake, and touch interaction. Alarms, priority notifications, and repeat callers may still notify by default. Choose it when you want the watch less likely to disturb sleep and do not need normal screen interaction.
Theater
Theater mode temporarily turns off the screen and suppresses notifications and incoming calls. Use it when an illuminated screen or alerts would be disruptive, such as during a film or meeting.
Airplane mode is not a notification-only mute
Airplane mode turns off the watch’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LTE, and GPS/GNSS radios, although individual radios can be turned back on independently. Avoid it if your goal is simply to mute alerts while keeping the watch connected. Google’s Pixel Watch mode details

Stop your phone from alerting while you wear the watch
If you want the phone to stop ringing or vibrating when the watch is handling alerts, change the phone-specific control—not the watch’s mute setting:
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app.
- Tap Notifications.
- Under Manage watch notifications, adjust Mute notifications from phone.
Turning this setting on can mute corresponding phone notifications while the watch is being used or worn. Turning it off stops the watch app from suppressing those phone alerts. It does not turn off the notification on the watch. Google’s Pixel Watch notification troubleshooting
Why notifications may be silent, hidden, or missing
Notifications appear, but make no sound or vibration
You may have muted sound or vibration rather than blocked the notification. If you want an app’s alerts gone from the watch, turn them off under Notifications > App Notifications. If you want broad temporary silence, use a watch mode.

Silent phone notifications do not appear on the watch
In the Pixel Watch app, check Notifications for Hide silent notifications. When enabled, phone notifications categorized as silent may not appear on the watch. Also check whether Mute notifications from phone is affecting when alerts are forwarded. Google’s notification troubleshooting steps
The watch is silent when it is off your wrist
In the watch settings, look under Watch Settings > Vibration > Silence watch when not being worn. Leave this on to silence the watch when it is off-wrist; turn it off if you want it to keep alerting when removed. Google’s notification troubleshooting steps
Only repeated bursts of alerts are being reduced
On devices with Android 16 or newer, Notification cooldown can mute notifications and reduce haptics when multiple alerts arrive from the same chat or app in a short period. To check it, open Phone Settings > Notifications > General > Notification cooldown, then turn Use notification cooldown on or off. This is an automatic phone feature, not a Pixel Watch mute control. No notifications arrive at all
- Check that notification permission is enabled for the relevant app on the phone and that the Google Pixel Watch app has the access it needs.
- Check whether Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, or Theater mode is active.
- Check the off-wrist silence setting and confirm the watch has a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LTE connection.
- Update the phone and watch software. If the problem continues, Google recommends unlinking and pairing the watch again; this is an escalation step, not a guaranteed fix.
