The Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 is a compelling upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra if you dive and want its advertised 150 m diving certification and underwater messaging. For most everyday Galaxy Watch Ultra owners, it is not an automatic upgrade: it is heavier, costs more in the cited UK comparison, and uses Huawei’s HarmonyOS and Health app rather than Samsung’s Wear OS setup. Your phone, country, wrist and main activity matter as much as the spec sheet.
Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 vs Galaxy Watch Ultra: the key differences

Why divers may prefer the Huawei
The Ultimate 2’s clearest advantage is its diving proposition. TechRadar lists 20 ATM water resistance and a 150 m diving certification. That is a manufacturer-related specification reported by the review, not proof that the reviewer independently tested the watch at that depth; the reviewer says they did not verify pressure tolerance at 150 m.

Underwater sonar messaging has a specific use case
The review describes sonar communication for exchanging messages between two Watch Ultimate 2 devices up to 30 m apart underwater. It could be useful to divers who want that feature and dive with someone carrying the same model. It is not a general way to message any diver’s watch.
By comparison, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is listed at 10 ATM and IP68 in TechRadar’s table. The Huawei therefore has the stronger stated diving specification, but buyers should distinguish a listed rating from independent validation and check manufacturer guidance and appropriate dive training before relying on any smartwatch underwater.

Why the Galaxy Watch Ultra may be the better everyday watch
It is lighter on the wrist
At 80.5 g without a strap and up to 48.5 mm, the Huawei is a large, heavy watch. TechRadar’s reviewer found its size bulky, particularly during exercise. Samsung’s listed 60.5 g weight and 47.4 mm case make the Galaxy Watch Ultra the lighter option on those review specifications. If you run, lift or have a smaller wrist, try the Huawei on before buying rather than assuming the similar case diameter means similar comfort.
It costs more in the cited UK comparison
TechRadar’s review-time UK figures put the Huawei at £799 for black or £899 for blue, versus £599 for the Samsung. The comparison makes Huawei a substantial premium purchase in that market and at that source date; prices and availability can change, so check local listings before deciding. Android Central reported launch prices of €899 for black and €999 for blue on September 19, 2025, and said the UK was among the global markets receiving the watch. TechRadar’s review said it was unavailable in the US and Australia at its publication-time context; neither report establishes current local availability.

Phone compatibility and apps can decide the upgrade
The Huawei runs HarmonyOS and uses Huawei Health, while the Galaxy Watch Ultra runs Wear OS. TechRadar says the Huawei integrated with Apple and Android phones in its testing, but also flags the lack of third-party apps as a drawback. A broad statement that it works with a phone does not guarantee that a particular app, payment method or health feature will work in your country.
Android Central’s reviewer reported having to sideload Huawei Health on a Pixel, while finding it in app stores on several other Android phone brands. The reviewer also could not add payment cards and noted that this might have been due to being in India. These are one person’s device- and region-specific experiences, not universal restrictions. Before switching, check Huawei Health availability for your exact phone, local payment support, and whether the apps and health functions you rely on are available.

Battery life depends on platform and use
TechRadar’s specification table lists an 867 mAh battery, typical-use estimates of 3.5 days with iOS and 4.5 days with Android, and 11 days in power saver mode. Those are mode-dependent estimates, not guaranteed runtimes. Its reviewer reported just under five days with their own usage pattern, with lower endurance when using the always-on display and variation based on GPS and activity intensity. Android Central’s author separately reported more than two days under heavy use and up to three under medium use. These are individual review observations, not a standardized head-to-head test against Samsung.
If battery is central to your decision, compare the settings you will actually use: phone platform, always-on display, GPS frequency and power-saving mode. Do not assume the longest listed figure describes a normal week of workouts.

What the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 offers beyond diving
TechRadar lists a 1.5-inch, 466 × 466 AMOLED display, GPS support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS, eSIM, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi and NFC. Android Central describes the display as a 1.5-inch LTPO OLED panel with brightness up to 3,500 nits. These are review-listed specifications rather than independent measurements of every feature. The cited reviews do not establish a universal advantage in health accuracy or workout results, so those should not be inferred from the specification list.
Who should buy it—and who should keep the Samsung?
The Ultimate 2 makes sense if
- You are a diver who values the Huawei’s advertised deep-water specification and understands its evidence limits.
- Your dive partner also has a Watch Ultimate 2 and you specifically want the described sonar messaging.
- You are comfortable with a large, heavy watch and have confirmed Huawei Health and the features you need work on your phone and in your country.
- The dated price premium is acceptable for your use case.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra is likely the safer choice if
- You mainly want an everyday fitness watch for running, gym sessions or general use, where the Huawei’s bulk may be a drawback.
- You prefer the lighter listed weight, a lower price in the cited UK comparison, or the Wear OS ecosystem.
- You depend on particular apps, payment services or phone features and do not want to verify their Huawei compatibility first.
Android Central’s September 19, 2025 comparison frames the Huawei as an upgrade, but that verdict best fits someone drawn to its specialist diving features. For a Galaxy Watch Ultra owner who does not dive, switching is a preference change—not a clearly established across-the-board improvement.
