What makes the Griffy different
The Griffy uses a button-activated LED display rather than the always-visible LCD screen common on many digital watches. Armitron describes it as an update to its original 1970s LED digital watch. In the collection description for the red-display variant, the display rests in black sleep mode until the side button is pressed; other variants use different display colors. That gives the watch a clean, dark look when idle, with a brief flash of color when you check the time. It is a distinctive design choice, not an always-on screen.

I paid $35 for mine. Armitron’s official collection, accessed October 4, 2026, lists 37 mm Griffy variants at $60 and $70, and shows the listed variants as sold out. Those are variant-specific prices and stock indicators at the time accessed, not a durable MSRP or a guarantee of availability. Check the exact color listing before buying; the price and stock may change.

Size, water resistance, and ownership details
Case size
The official listings identify the Griffy variants as 37 mm. Case diameter alone does not determine how a watch will fit; Armitron’s available listings do not establish the exact model number or bracelet-adjustment dimensions for the watch in the title.
Water resistance
Do not assume a rating from another Griffy model applies to yours. Armitron says water resistance varies by model and is typically marked on the case back or watch face. Check the marking on the exact watch before exposing it to water. A third-party manual listing reports 50 m (165 ft) for model 40/8475, but that does not identify the watch in this article as that model. Battery and warranty
Armitron’s general FAQ says watch batteries typically last 1–2 years depending on the watch’s functions. That is brand-wide guidance, not a measured Griffy lifespan. Armitron recommends using an authorized service center or a qualified jeweler or watchmaker for battery replacement; the exact battery type for the watch in the title is not established.
The FAQ describes a limited lifetime warranty for defects in material and workmanship, while excluding normal wear and tear and components including the battery, case, strap, crystal, and bracelet. Read the current warranty terms and verify coverage for the specific watch before relying on them.

Who the Griffy suits
The Griffy makes most sense for someone who values the unusual, button-activated LED display and the retro design more than instant, always-visible timekeeping. If you want to read the time without pressing a button, an always-on LCD is the more practical display style. The Griffy’s appeal is that checking the time is an intentional little interaction; whether that trade-off is worth the price depends on how much you enjoy the look and feel.
