Made for the 50th anniversary of Casio watches, the worldwide limited edition is 4,000 watches. It keeps the original’s compact design cues while adding solar power, radio time calibration and smartphone connectivity.
Why the Casiotron matters
Casio introduced the Casiotron in 1974, drawing on digital technologies developed for its calculator business. The QW02 displayed the month, date and weekday, and its calendar automatically accounted for months of different lengths—so the wearer did not need to make routine monthly calendar corrections.
Casio describes the original Casiotron as the world’s first digital watch with an automatic calendar function. That superlative is Casio’s historical claim; the company’s anniversary announcement does not establish independent adjudication of it. The TRN-50 is a re-creation of the QW02, not a claim that its 1974 calendar feature is new to the modern model.
In its February 15, 2024 announcement, Casio said: “The new TRN-50 stays true to the Casiotron concept of a fully automatic wristwatch, drawing on all the advancements of Casio watch development over the half-century since the original model came out.”

How limited is the anniversary edition?
Casio announced a worldwide edition of 4,000 watches. The TRN-50-2A’s screw-lock case back bears a commemorative update to the Casiotron symbol and an engraved serial number running from 0001/4000 through 4000/4000. The number identifies a watch within the announced edition; it does not establish an individual watch’s market value or rarity beyond that edition size.
What the TRN-50-2A looks like
The anniversary model uses a dark-blue dial with the Casiotron logo, a textured steel case and bracelet, and contrasting surface finishes. Casio says the design closely matches the original in size. Its European product page lists a 39.1 mm external diameter and says the profile is 0.3 mm slimmer than the original.

The case back has a glass center, allowing the serial engraving and commemorative symbol to remain visible. These details connect the watch to the original without confusing its vintage-inspired appearance with vintage-era construction: the TRN-50-2A includes contemporary power and time-setting features.

TRN-50 is the anniversary watch’s short name; the standard limited-edition retail model identified on Casio’s European and U.S. pages is TRN-50-2A. Check the product page for your market before relying on a model suffix, price or availability. The 4,000-watch figure is the edition size announced by Casio, not a statement about current remaining stock. The official pages cited here do not establish current regional availability or retail and secondary-market prices.
